Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The proposition

Sophia's heart pounded in her chest as Adrian Steele stood across from her, his presence commanding the room. She couldn't shake the feeling that the entire world was watching them like everything she had ever known was shifting in that one moment.

"I'm sorry," she said, struggling to regain some composure. "You want to discuss my art?"

Adrian's eyes narrowed, a hint of amusement dancing behind his cool gaze. "Yes. I've seen your work. I believe you're underestimating your potential."

Her eyebrows shot up. *Underestimating?* She was barely scraping by, her art hanging on the walls of a run-down coffee shop. No one had ever shown more than a passing glance at her pieces.

"I—thank you, but I don't quite understand," she stammered.

He gave a small nod, as if he'd been expecting her hesitation. "I'm offering you an opportunity," he said, his voice low and deliberate. "I'm commissioning you to create a series of paintings for a private collection. I want you to capture something... unconventional."

Sophia blinked. *Private collection?* The words hung in the air like an impossible dream. She had heard of wealthy collectors commissioning artists, but this ,this was beyond her wildest fantasies.

"What kind of paintings?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Adrian stepped closer, his gaze intense. "I want you to paint what others can't see. What the world is too blind to notice. There's power in art, Sophia. It's more than just colors on canvas. It's about capturing a truth that others are too afraid to face."

Sophia took a step back, her mind racing. This was insane. She was an unknown artist. And yet, here was one of the richest men in the world offering her the chance of a lifetime. It didn't add up.

"Why me?" she asked, her voice tinged with skepticism. "Why not someone more established? Someone with... experience?"

Adrian's lips curled into a thin smile. "Because, Miss Harris, I believe you're the only one who can do this. You have a gift. Don't waste it."

He handed her a business card, and as she took it, her fingers brushed against his. The brief touch sent a shiver up her spine.

"I'll give you time to think about it," he said, stepping back. "But don't take too long. Opportunities like this don't come around every day."

Sophia stared at the card, her mind reeling. She was in shock, and yet, part of her knew she couldn't let this slip away. Adrian Steele had just changed the course of her life, whether she was ready or not.

As he turned to leave, he paused at the door, glancing over his shoulder. "And remember, Sophia. You're not just painting for money. You're painting for something much greater."

The door closed behind him with a soft click, leaving Sophia standing in the empty coffee shop, clutching the business card as if it might slip through her fingers if she wasn't careful.

Her thoughts spun in a whirlwind, each one competing for attention. Was this real? Was this the moment her life finally changed? Or was it just another game, another way to lure her deeper into the maze of uncertainty she had been living in for so long?

She glanced down at the business card again. The name on it seemed to mock her with its promise:

**Adrian Steele. CEO, Steele Industries.**
