"Ahhh Rio, you did such a great job on the letter, I was impressed. how can I help you." Raymond asked as Rio walked into his office, the man sitting behind his office desk.
Hearing Raymond's word Rio quickly gulped the surge of anger that threatened to rise out of him shaking off the image of Carvin being given the letter of appointment that should have been meant for him out of his head.
Raymond's smile was so bright and genuine that for a second Rio faltered in his thinking, wondering if perhaps he was the one who was being too greedy and selfish, already wanting a promotion.
"Sir…." Rio started but stalled, all sort of doubts hitting me, but then he remembered the sleepless nights, the hungry afternoons and the numerous overtimes he had done just for the company and his resolve was renewed.
"That promotion should have gone to me and not Carvin, I have worked and earned it."
Suppressing a ton of his emotions, Rio decided to go off and bluntly say the problem as it was, and he watched as a look of shock claimed Raymond's face before it turned to disappointment.
"Rio, why are you being so hasty, we already talked about this the last time, you are still young and have so much to learn.."
"What do you mean still young, I am the most productive worker in my department and I can confidently say in the whole company.
The last time when I complained about being passed over for the position of a manager you told me that I was thinking too small and there are better things in stock for me, and now you are telling me I am too young." Rio barked out
"Rio you will do well to remember where you are. Go for a break and when you are calmed down, come back let's talk."
Though Raymond said these words calmly, Rio felt a heavy pressure fall upon him and he found himself looking away from the man guilt building up within him.
On their own, Rio feet moved to walk away, but he stopped himself and spoke with a voice laced in fury.
"No, we are talking now"
"Rio, are you trying to get sacked, think wisely before you do something you will regret" Raymond said still calm as he picked up a cigar from a red box on his desk and lit it.
While the man puffed, Rio found myself at a crossroads of decision and frustrated, he couldn't help but begin hatting everything.
He hated that after everything he had done, he was being rewarded with such nonsense. He hated the fact that even without trying Raymond was able to put him in such suppressed and frightened state. He hated Carvin the bastard who had taken his position. He hated the Dennis for all so happily haven given his position away. He hated Raymond who was calmly seated on his desk and having a smoke, but most of all he hated himself for being born as just sone random dude in the cog, he hated that he was born without privilege.
In Rio's 7 years of working at the company, 4 times he had been passed over for a promotion which he deserved and the reason for that was because there was some well-connected person to fill the position.
Twice it had been the manager position, once the position of a supervisor and now the position of head of department.
What was worse, was that at the moment he was still just a normal staff and now thinking about how he wanted to leap from that lowly position to that of the head of department, he couldn't help but chuckle in mockery at myself.
"If you feel I have been unfair to you, you can go meet the CEO and make your complains, I'll personally give you a pass to his office."
"How magnanimous" Rio thought with a sneer, but outwardly, he let the anger on his face disappear, a solemn expression claiming it.
"I think it's better I go home and think things through" Rio said looking up at Raymond and seeing him nod, he turned around and exited his office.
...…..
within the basement of a house, sounds of punches and roars rang out and the source of these scary sounds was Rio who was drenched in sweat and throwing his fist at a sand bag.
The reason Rion had left Raymond's office wasn't because he felt some sort of regret or wanted to actually think things over, but because in just the instance he had been chuckling, several images of him beating Raymond to a pulp had flashed through his head.
"I should have stayed and beaten that sly snake to a fucking pulp.
There I am filled with pain and telling him my grievance and he has the gall to light up a cigar and tell me to go to the CEO"
Violent thoughts filled Rio's mind and he couldn't help but imagine that Raymond was the sand bag in front of him as he punched it to death.
For 5 minutes straight Rio punched the bag without stop, his assault unrelenting, not even the blue screen that appeared before his eyes distracting him as he swiped it away and continued raining down hard hits on the bag in front of him.
Normally, Rio shouldn't have been able to swipe away the blue screen, but the bubbling anger raised his mental strength to a level just sufficient enough to overpower the will behind the blue screen and in so doing, Rio missed an important worldwide information that was being made.
Rio looked like he would stop only after passing out, and he went on punching for a few more minutes before a heavy sound from up above drew his attention.
Rio stopped for a second listening to the bangs that were in the house above and with anger reignited he turned away from the bag and headed for the exit of the basement.
"Here I am having a bad day and some idiots decide that they want to rob my house, I am so fucking going to kill them" Rio said and he meant it.
Unlike Raymond who he was cautious of harming, Rio he was sure he could weasel his way out of ending the lives of some criminals who were invading his property.
