Chereads / The Moon Bride / Chapter 8 - A Troublesome Shewolf

Chapter 8 - A Troublesome Shewolf

During the following period, Ava was relatively happy. She was going to the streets from time to time, experiencing the customs of the wolf community, going to bars and restaurants to listen to gossips, and grasp the latest situations around.

Nowadays, the colony was divided into four cities. Among them, New York had the most extensive territory and the most abundant products.

There were three cities around it, namely California to the north, Texas to the west, and Florida to the south.

The most powerful city, California, was dominated by the red wolves. They had coveted the territory of the Yorkers for a long time, and had repeatedly sent pack warriors to attack the areas around the border, the New York bridge.

Seven years ago, in the battle of the York Bridge, the Grey wolves of New York, led by the Warren pack, had severely damaged the red wolves from California, and their General was killed in the battle. In the aftermath, the Ultima of California negotiated a peace deal.

So, in the next couple of years, New York had been peaceful.

Walking on the paved road of the Broadway alley, Ava thought of the Warren family for no reason whatsoever. To achieve such peace and tranquility for the city, the Warren family paid a huge price, in the life of the Alpha of the Warren family.

Her jewel shop, which she opened from her mother's inheritance, was located at the intersection of the Broadway alley and Olive Street, a very prosperous area of New York. But before Ava reached the shop, she heard a loud noise coming from the store.

"Now your place, you silly girl!" Audrey's sharp and arrogant voice came into Ava's ears from far away.

Ava frowned, why was it her sister again! This girl was not at ease wherever she was. Ava walked into the store and saw Audrey glaring angrily at the shopkeeper, Hawley.

Despite being a coyote-blood, he did not show weakness in the face of Audrey's unreasonable clamor, although he talked respectfully. Even though he knew she could injure, or even kill him as a superior wolf-blood, he still insisted on standing firmly and did not give in.

Seeing Ava walking in, Hawley was obviously relieved. He greeted respectfully said. "Welcome, Miss."

Her sister was too unreasonable, and she was really hard to deal with. But Ava must have a way, Hawley thought with relief. He knew that although the lady looked gentle and weak, her knowledge and courage were unusual.

Ava nodded to Hawley, glanced faintly at Audrey, whose nose was upturned, and said, "Sister, if there's anything you need, you can just tell the storekeeper, and he will send it to you at home. Why lose your temper here in the public and embarrassed our family's name."

"Look who's talking about embarrassment." Audrey snorted coldly and said. "Face is burnt, Alvis despises you, nobody likes you. If I were you, even if I didn't hang myself, I would live in a den for the rest of my life. It's embarrassing for you to come out hereand show your face around."

Hearing Audrey's words, the people watching the encounter began to discuss in whispers.

"So, she's the eldest daughter of the Smiths's family."

"Yes, her name is Ava."

"Seeing that her face is covered in a mask, shouldn't she be really disfigured from the fire?"

"What a pity! They did her bad with that silver fire."

"The Ultima has betrothed her in a marriage to Leo, but he refused."

"That's too bad."

"Maybe she will marry a coyote to preserve whats left of her dignity."

Samantha heard what Audrey said, along with the comments of the people around her, and her face flushed with anger. Not able to do any other things due to her position, she glared softly at Aubrey.

"Fortunately, I am not you." Ava just smiled indifferently and said loudly. "Why should I hide when I have nothing to hide. Isn't the people who have skeleton in their cupboards need to hide?"

Facing the telling eyes, Audrey felt a little infuriated. In her mind it was as if the secret she had carefully hidden had been discovered by her sister who looked somehow different now. She took a few steps forward, trying to intimidate Ava.

Ava stood her ground, tired of her sister's bullish actions. "Hey Sis, with your current physical condition, I think it's better for you not to go around stressing yourself now, don't you think?"

Upon hearing this, Audrey's face changed slightly. Did her sister know that she was pregnant?

"What's the matter?" At this moment, a male voice sounded from the corridor. Soon, a man in a black jacket and trousers, with a good body and a handsome face, walked into the room.

It was Alvis, the son of the late Ultima, and the brother of the current ruler of the colony. He stared at Ava gloomily, grabbed Aubrey's hand, and asked aloud. "Are you alright?"

When Audrey saw who the person was, she nodded. "I'm fine, Alvis."

"Careful, sister. The slope is very slippery." Ava smiled and whispered in Aubrey's ear. Afterwards, she smiled at Alvis and said. "Nothing to worry about. I was only giving my sister some advice so that she could understand things better. Sister, don't you think so?"

"One day, I might have to snap your neck, and there's nothing you can do about it." Audrey glared at Ava unwillingly, walked towards Alvis, pulled his sleeves, and said. "Let's go, Alvis."

If she was unmated but became pregnant, her reputation would be ruined. Status meant everything, especially marrying into the royal house. Maybe she really would spend her lifetime in the catholic monastery. Therefore, she accepted this development today. But sooner or later, she would get back at her sister. Even if it meant breaking the rule of the colony.

Alvis was stunned by Ava's smile, and when he recovered, Aubrey was already dragging him away.

On the opposite side of Ava, in a restaurant and bar, two men were seated by the windows in the upstairs, watching the scenery. They had the same elegance of a royal wolf-blood.

The man in the white jacket and trousers, took a large sip of the wine from the glass in his hand, and said jokingly. "Leo, is this who they call your stupid, timid and incompetent future mate? These rumors are becoming less and less credible in my eyes."

The wolf-blood on the other side, sitting on a wheelchair, shook his head in response. As a wolf-blood, his injury should have healed by now, but it didn't. This made his face pale and cold. "Evans, It seems that your family is not as good as before since you became the Alpha. Your dad must be howling in the heavens right now."

As he listened to the man opposite, his face changed slightly, and he shouted to him. "Do you know how pathetic you sound? We're talking about your future mate, but you're talking about my family? You wait and see, if I won't tell her about your secrets. All of them. Then, you'll see who's howling."

"Don't you dare."

"Is that so?"

"Yes, I'll take care of my things by myself." Leo handed Evans a warning look, and then whispered, "Chaz, let's go."

In the blink of an eye, a young guy of an average built was standing expressionless behind Leo, silent like a shadow. He pushed his wheelchair away and didn't even look at Evans, who was having a drink with them just now.

Evans was no stranger to the way he got along with these two. He touched his chin, looked at the back of the departing Leo, and glanced at Ava, who was also walking away slowly, and smiled broadly.

It seemed that there could be good shows for him to watch in the future.
