Chapter 22 - Pok’s Inheritance

At this moment.

Ron's gaze flickered uncertainly, as a plan slowly emerged in his mind.

Originally, after delivering the letter to Pok in the afternoon, he had no intention of taking further action.

He knew that Nemo's trip to Kurah City this time would certainly not bring any reinforcements.

And after receiving the letter in the afternoon, Pok only had two paths to choose from.

Either he would be filled with fear, flee, and disappear with his wealth.

Or he would be audacious, turn against Barto, and take the risk of killing him.

No matter which choice he made, it would deal a heavy blow to Barto.

Therefore, Ron was certain that Barto had an almost one hundred percent probability of dying in five days.

Thus, he didn't need to do anything extra.

The more you do, the more mistakes you make; the less you do, the fewer mistakes you make; doing nothing means no mistakes.

However, now that Barto and Miral still did not plan to let him go,

he had to take a risk and act once more.

After thinking through the plan, Ron continued to look downwards.

Immediately, Ron couldn't help but be taken aback.

"Pok is dead? Killed by Grace?"

"Wow, what an evil woman, truly as expected…"

Ron couldn't help but click his tongue, not expecting Lady Grace to be so ruthless.

She actually took matters into her own hands and killed her own son's biological father.

"However, I can understand Grace's thoughts."

"After all, she is the sister of a Just Knight and has no fear of Barto's threats."

"There is absolutely no need for her to take risks with Pok…"

Ron thought to himself, then looked at the inheritance left by Pok.

"I can't conveniently take action on Barto's three hidden treasures now."

"But the gold coins left by Pok, on the other hand, would be quite easy to get my hands on."

Finally, after reading the remaining two pieces of information, Ron went straight to sleep.

The next morning.

Ron got up, had breakfast with Liton and his daughter, and after the meal,

Liton informed Ron that he was going to take Lisa to school and would also submit his resignation to Barto.

He also gave Ron two silver coins, asking him to go out and retrieve the custom-made signboard he had ordered.

Ron agreed, and as soon as Liton left, he immediately took the money and left.

Subsequently, he went to another restaurant and, using the same method as last night, sent another letter.

This time, however, Ron paid for the meal in advance.

Because he knew that if he used the cash-on-delivery method again,

that miserly money-grubber Barto might very well refuse to accept it.

After doing this, Ron went to the inn where Pok had rented a room.

Since Pok had planned to flee yesterday, he only rented the room for one night.

It was still early morning, and according to common sense, that room should not have a new tenant yet.

"Good day, sir. May I ask if you are here for a meal, to stay, or to rent a carriage?" the front desk clerk asked.

Ron, wearing an alchemical mask, responded calmly and naturally.

"Hello, I would like to stay. Could you show me the room first?"

"Of course."

Immediately, after inquiring about Ron's accommodation requirements and the price he could afford,

the front desk arranged for someone to take Ron upstairs.

Five minutes later, after looking at several rooms, Ron finally stopped in front of a medium-sized guest room on the south side of the second floor.

"Well, I think this room will do. I'll take it."

Ron took out some copper coins and handed them over.

"Very well, sir. Please wait a moment while I get the key for you."

The clerk said, then went downstairs, fetched the key, and opened the door.

After giving a few simple instructions, Ron asked the clerk to leave and not to disturb him for the time being.

After closing the door, Ron, following the information provided, first brought over a stool and then went to the corner cabinet.

This cabinet was over two meters tall. Standing on the stool, he could see a small rectangular wooden box in the blind spot between the cabinet and the corner.

He took down the wooden box and opened it to find a gleam of gold inside.

"Ten gold coins, a few silver coins, some forged identity documents, and a low-grade elemental fruit."

Ron's lips curled up; this was all of Pok's inheritance.

Among them, the ten gold coins were what he had saved up over the years.

And that elemental fruit was what Pok had bought for his son, Lola, through secret channels.

He had originally planned that when Lola was a bit older and could cultivate the breathing technique,

he would spend money to find an alchemist to refine a breakthrough potion, giving Lola a chance to become a true knight.

However, he didn't expect to be suddenly attacked by Grace last night, not even having the time to leave a will, and died on the spot.

"What a good father. It's a pity that you will never have the chance to give this fruit to your son."

Ron put the items back, placed the small wooden box in his pocket, and then left the inn nonchalantly.

After Ron returned to his original appearance and retrieved the custom-made signboard that Liton had ordered in advance,

he happened to see Liton also returning home.

"Ron, help me bring the ladder over," Liton said.

Then, together with Ron, they hung the signboard at the top of the entrance to the front yard.

It read - Liton's Private Clinic.

"Starting tomorrow, I will be the doctor of the private clinic."

"As for you, Ron, you will be my most capable assistant!"

Liton looked at the signboard, nodded with satisfaction, and said with a smile.

Ron also slightly bowed his head and replied with a smile.

"Mr. Liton, thank you for your recognition. I will work hard."

At the same time, on the other side.

In the Barto household, a servant came to report.

"What? Pok had someone deliver breakfast to me?"

Barto, who was in a critical condition and weak, widened his eyes in disbelief.

"This scoundrel, what is he up to?"

As a landowner, how could his house not have a cook? Why would he need outsiders to deliver breakfast?

He was puzzled, but since Pok had already paid, he, who was inherently very miserly, decided to have the servant bring the breakfast in.

When Barto saw that in addition to the breakfast, there was also a letter attached, he was even more confused.

"Pok, what on earth are you playing at?"

Barto impatiently opened the letter, and when he saw the content,

he suddenly sat up, his face filled with shock and anger.

The letter read -

[Barto, by the time you read this letter, it means that I am already dead…]

This was a suicide note, in which it was revealed that Pok had an affair with Grace and they had a child, Lola.

Due to certain reasons, he had planned to elope with Grace and their child last night.

But he knew that Grace was ruthless and power-hungry, and might very well not leave with him.

She might even kill him to cover up the secret.

Thus, he had prepared a backup plan, which was this letter.

If he failed to leave alive, he would have someone deliver this letter to Barto, to take Grace down with him.

"Wretched woman! Wretched woman!"

Barto's face was contorted with fury, his breathing rapid.

Already on the brink of death, he felt a darkness before his eyes and nearly died of anger.
