Chapter 9 - The Mage Pharmacist

Upon hearing the figure, a pained expression immediately crossed Barto's face. "Isn't that too expensive? Can't it be cheaper?"

Dr. Liton shook his head. "No, one gold coin is already quite cheap." Seeing that Barto still wanted to say something, Liton added, "After all, Mr. Gavin is not an ordinary doctor; he was once an apprentice to a mage pharmacist."

Upon hearing this, Barto was left speechless. Although he was just an ordinary person, he understood the high status of mage pharmacists. On the Divine Continent, among extraordinaries of the same level, knights rank lower than magicians, and magicians rank lower than mage pharmacists. This is not due to their combat abilities, but rather their status and capabilities.

Although Gavin was not a true mage pharmacist, as an apprentice, his status in Hippo Town was already highly respected. Over the past twenty years, Hippo Town had cultivated fifteen apprentice knights, but not a single mage pharmacist apprentice.

After a moment of silence, Barto finally asked in a low voice, "So… do you really have no other way to cure my leg?"

Liton pondered for a moment, then spoke calmly, "Perhaps, you could try inviting a priest?"

Barto was taken aback and fell silent. Priests are clergy of the church, possessing extraordinary abilities granted by the divine. Their status is almost on par with mage pharmacists. However, unless under specific circumstances, priests rarely treat ordinary people, even for money. For Barto, inviting a priest was even more difficult than inviting a mage pharmacist.

"Alright… I understand," Barto said weakly, waving his hand to dismiss Liton. Although he was dissatisfied with Liton's inability to help, he did not dare to vent his anger as he did with his servant Pok. This was because Liton and the Barto family had signed an equal contract, and if Liton was dissatisfied, he could leave by paying a small penalty fee.

"By the way, where is Nem? Mr. Liton, could you please call my eldest son when you go out?" Barto suddenly remembered something and called out to Liton.

Liton nodded and left the bedroom. A moment later, a staggering drunkard entered the room.

"Nem? Damn it, you're drunk again!" Barto smelled the strong alcohol on him and became furious. "You good-for-nothing! With me in this condition, you still have the mind to go out and drink?"

Nem giggled foolishly, burped, and slurred, "Father, what do you need me for?"

Barto suppressed his anger and said coldly, "Tomorrow morning, you will take me to Kula City."

Since Gavin's consultation fee was at least one gold coin, the stingy and distrustful Barto could only have his son escort him and carry the gold coin.

Nem nodded absentmindedly, clearly not paying attention.

"Scoundrel, did you hear me clearly?" Barto roared in anger.

Nem was startled, his eyes wandering. "Father… you said we're going to Kula City?"

Barto sneered, "Is that so? Then do you know why I'm going to Kula City?"

Nem opened his mouth, thought for a long time, but couldn't come up with an answer, and could only hang his head in admission, "I'm sorry, Father, I forgot."

"Scoundrel! Kneel down!"

Barto's chest heaved, and he, who was already dizzy from the infection and fever, almost fainted from anger.

Nem obediently knelt down, his movements so smooth it seemed like he had done it a thousand times.

"You good-for-nothing who only knows how to drink and is uneducated, do you really want to drive me crazy?" Barto pointed at Nem's nose and scolded, "You don't need to take me tomorrow! You stay at home and practice the Wild Wolf Fist a thousand times!"

"Start practicing now! Right away!"

Nem hung his head dejectedly and replied in a low voice, "Yes, Father."

Barto's anger still hadn't subsided, and he reached out his hand, "Bring me your notebook! I want to see what else you do all day besides drinking!"

Nem shuddered in fear, instinctively reaching into his pocket, but his movement suddenly froze.

"What? Where is your notebook?" Barto noticed something was wrong and his tone turned icy.

Nem searched for a while, and finally, with a pale face, he looked up, "Father… my notebook seems to have been… lost."

"What?!"

Barto's eyes widened, and he sat up abruptly from the bed, furious: "You good-for-nothing! How could you lose something like that?!"

This "Wild Wolf Breathing Method," though only a primary breathing method, contained complete sets of skills such as fist techniques, swordsmanship, horsemanship, and spear techniques, and also included annotations from an old wild wolf knight. The market price was at least over twenty gold coins!

Barto had obtained it with great difficulty, and yet Nem had lost it?

"Father, I… I'll go back to the tavern and look for it right away!" Nem was sweating profusely, eager to get up and go out to search.

However, before he could even step out of the room, he heard a muffled groan from behind as Barto convulsed violently and fell back onto the bed.

"Father! Father!"

The room immediately fell into chaos.

The next morning, as the sky was just beginning to lighten and the sun had not yet risen, Ron woke up, quickly tidied himself, and hurried to the town's grocery store. At that time, the grocery store had just opened, and there were not many customers yet. Ron breathed a sigh of relief, looked around, and then quickly went in.

After buying all the items he needed, he immediately headed to the stone house outside the city. An hour later, Ron arrived at the stone house. The house was the same as when he left yesterday, with no signs of being opened. He carefully went in and reached into the crack of the wall near the stone bed.

Two seconds later, he pulled out a small ball wrapped in a piece of rag. It was an elemental fruit.
