Chapter 2 - Wallet

A scream pierced through the heavens and the earth.

Even Ron, who was hundreds of meters away, could hear it clearly.

Ron felt a surge of joy in his heart, but he still restrained himself and observed quietly.

"Ah! My foot, my foot!"

Barto fell to the ground, clutching his right foot and wailing wretchedly.

The nearby butler and attendants were shocked and hurried over to check.

The slaves, hearing the scream, also stopped their work in confusion.

When a few slaves who were closer realized that Barto was injured,a hint of pleasure appeared on their otherwise numb faces.

At that moment, the butler squatted down and saw that Barto's right foot was tightly clamped by a large animal trap, with blood seeping continuously.

"Oh! By the Creator Goddess, someone come quickly!"

The butler exclaimed, hastily directing the guards to remove the trap.

However, as soon as the guards moved, Barto felt even more pain and quickly shouted,

"You fools, stop!"

The guards dared not move recklessly, and Barto, sweating profusely, endured the pain and observed.

He saw that the trap's grip was too strong, piercing through the flesh, and the iron teeth had bitten into his bone.

So, Barto quickly said,

"Be gentle, just carry me back first."

Thus, the guards carefully lifted Barto.

Just as the butler was about to take Barto back,

Barto suddenly remembered something and shouted,

"Wait!"

The butler stopped immediately and asked,

"Master, do you have any other orders?"

Barto, gasping, pointed at the slaves in the field."Leave the other attendants to watch them finish their work, and remember, no slacking off!"

"Yes, Master!"

Then, Barto allowed the butler to escort him away.

The slaves in the field showed no change in expression; they were used to the exploitation and stinginess of their master, Barto.

However, as they lowered their heads and continued their work as usual,

their eyes still revealed a deep-seated hatred.

"Hmm? Do I have to wait longer?"

Ron, hiding in the bushes in the distance, couldn't help but frown.

"Will that wallet be picked up by someone?"

He felt a bit restless and uneasy, but the situation was not under his control, so he had to keep waiting.

After more than two hours, the wheat field was harvested, and the overseer took all the slaves away.

Ron still dared not move and waited for another half hour as the sun slowly set.

Seeing that there was no one around and no one returned, Ron finally got up.

He rubbed his numb legs and hurried to the place where Barto had fallen.

After searching carefully, his eyes suddenly brightened.

He quickly reached out and brushed aside some broken wheat straw.

There, a square leather wallet was buried among them.

Ron picked up the wallet, didn't bother to check it, and turned to run.

Not long after he left, more of Barto's attendants arrived.

Meanwhile, on the other side.

In the residential area of Hippo Town, in a large courtyard at the center, there were brick and tile buildings, exquisitely decorated, luxurious and splendid, with a strong medieval architectural style.

This was the residence of the Barto family, covering thousands of square meters, and was one of the most luxurious building complexes in Hippo Town.

In the bedroom, Barto was cursing non-stop.

"Damn it, who put that trap there?"

"Don't let me catch you, or Master Barto will break your bones!"

"Also, has my wallet been found? Did those slaves pick it up? Check them thoroughly!"

The butler, Pok, quickly reported each matter.

"Master, I speculate that the trap was set by a nearby farmer.

"Because the wheat fields are ripe recently, farmers are afraid of birds and field mice stealing, so they place scarecrows and traps to protect their fields.

"But who specifically, we haven't found yet. As for your wallet…

Butler Pok paused briefly and lowered his head even more.

"I have already sent people to check those slaves, and there is no sign of them hiding it.

"But don't worry, I have also sent people to search the fields carefully, and it should be found."

Upon hearing this, Barto was about to get angry when he saw the family doctor stand up.

"Master Barto, your foot has been cleaned and can be bandaged now."

Family doctor Liton spoke, but then hesitated and added,"However, to avoid unnecessary risks,

"I still suggest you go to the city and see Dr. Gavin.

"Let him prescribe some high-grade treatment drugs, which will be safer."

Upon hearing this, Barto thought for a moment and then casually waved his hand.

"No need, Dr. Liton, I trust your skills."

Seeing that Barto did not listen to his advice, Dr. Liton did not say anything more.

He just bandaged the wound with gauze, bowed slightly, and left the room.

After leaving, Dr. Liton shook his head.

While treating the wound, he noticed the trap's iron teeth were rusty and coated with a foul-smelling residue.

And Barto's wound, which went deep into the bone, had been contaminated by the attached material.

If it was just a simple cleaning and medication, it probably wouldn't work and could easily lead to infection and other problems.

However, Liton was only a family doctor, capable of handling common colds, fevers, or external injuries and pain.

To truly deal with such injuries, one could only seek Dr. Gavin in Kula City.

He was Liton's senior when they were studying medicine, with superb medical skills and access to advanced anti-inflammatory drugs.

Now, he was serving the nobles in the wealthy district of Kula City.

Unfortunately, Barto, the stingy miser, was not willing to spend any more money.

His claim of trusting Liton's medical skills was just an excuse.

"I hope Master Barto recovers, otherwise…"

Liton continued forward, thinking to himself.

"I might have to find a new employer in a few days."

At the same time, in the wasteland outside Hippo Town, there was a dilapidated wooden house, with a roof that had long rotted and was now simply covered with some thatch.

At this moment, as the sun was setting and dusk approached,a figure was running towards this place. It was Ron.

"Haha, I really found it!"

Ron stopped excitedly, catching his breath,

and then cautiously looked around, seeing no signs of anyone having been to the wooden house.

He then felt relieved, entered the house, and closed the door.

Even though the door bolt was actually broken, it didn't matter whether it was closed or not.

Ron took out the wallet from his arms and carefully opened it.

"Hmm? There's actually a gold coin."

A flash of gold caught his eye, and Ron was overjoyed.
