Chapter 5 - Ch 5: Vein Awakening Herbs

Eryx slowly walked down the dark corridor. Each step he took echoed in the air.

Finally, he stopped in front of the first stone chamber that was on his right side.

The chamber had a wooden door that looked very old and weak. The faint symbols carved into the door appeared complicated. At first, Eryx couldn't understand them, but as he looked at them, he found them similar to something that appeared in the memories of his body's previous owner.

"So, this is what runes look like," he muttered.

He didn't know what these runes represented, but he felt curious about them. After all, runes are magical. They can hide secrets, create spells, and unleash powerful strength beyond comprehension.

He stared at the runes, hoping to understand them.

What if something bad happened if he tried to open the wooden door and the runes activated?

Minutes passed, but he failed to understand what these runes truly represented.

With a deep breath, Eryx decided to push the door. He expected the door to be heavy and hard to open. But to his surprise, as soon as he gave it a small push, the door actually crumbled completely.

"Crrrk-shhh"

Pieces of old, rotten wood fell to the floor, making a soft crackling sound. Dust filled the air, and Eryx stepped back quickly to avoid it.

"What the…?"

Eryx was surprised. He had expected this door to be made of some special wood, and the symbols carved on it to hold some mystery, but now it seemed the wood was just ordinary and had rotted over time. That's why it crumbled away as soon as he gave it a slight push.

Eryx suddenly realized that those runes may not be as special and mysterious as he had thought them to be.

Eryx remembered the novels he used to read on Earth. In those stories, runes like these always held mysteries or powers. They were clues, or warnings, or skills. But here, these runes were just decoration, like they were only there to look scary or important.

Eryx felt a little disappointed but also a bit relieved.

At least, there were no traps that activated right after he touched the door.

He took another deep breath and looked into the chamber in front of him. Whatever was inside was now his to explore.

Eryx stepped inside. The chamber was dark, with ghostly blue flames burning on the walls, hanging in different places.

Fortunately, the light these ghostly blue flames illuminated was enough for Eryx to see everything inside clearly.

The chamber didn't have many things. There was just an old stone pedestal in the middle of the chamber. It looked cracked and broken, with pieces chipped away.

A small black box could be seen on top of the pedestal. The box was dusty and looked old.

The air inside the chamber was cold, making it hard for Eryx to breathe. He could also smell a faint musty odor, clearly indicating that this place hadn't been opened in centuries.

Eryx was very careful. This kind of tomb normally has hidden traps.

Carefully, he walked towards the pedestal. Standing in front of it, he observed the black box for a while, and after observing it for a while, he slowly opened it.

The box was not locked so it was easily opened.

Inside, he found three items.

One was a small, round vial filled with a dark, shimmering liquid that seemed to swirl on its own. Eryx couldn't tell what it was, but it looked powerful and mysterious.

The second item was a polished stone with faint blue lines glowing across its surface. It was cool to the touch, and he felt a soft hum of energy pulsing from it.

The third item was a stalk of grass with three distinctive leaves. Every leaf had its own characteristics, having a different shape and texture.

"Vein Awakening Herb!"

Eryx exclaimed in surprise. Through the memories of his body's predecessor, he immediately recognized the herb. It was the Vein Awakening Herb, capable of helping him unblock his veins.

"Isn't it too much of a coincidence to find something I desperately need here?" he thought.

Indeed, it was an incredible coincidence. However, Eryx soon credited the system for all this. It seemed the system had given him the mission to rob a grave, perhaps because it knew he could find the herb here that he needed more than anything else.

"With this stalk of Vein Awakening Herb, I could officially start cultivating." Eryx was grateful and happy. He no longer needs to worry about not being able to cultivate.

The Vein Awakening Herbs were not rare. They could be found in any city market. However, Eryx was too poor to buy one. If not for his lack of money, the previous owner of this body might not have died of extreme hunger.

Now that he thinks about it, since the former owner of this body had died from starvation, why wasn't he feeling hungry?

Logically speaking, he should be starving!

"It is strange, but oddly good," Eryx thought.

At least, he doesn't need to worry about having to eat something urgently.

Shaking his head, Eryx focused on the other two items inside the box.

One was a round vial filled with a dark shimmering liquid and the other one was a polished stone with faint blue lines glowing across its surface.

Eryx couldn't recognize the items, which meant the original owner of this body also had no impression of them. However, since they were placed alongside the Vein Awakening Herb, Eryx decided to mark them as important.

He took the box with him and left the stone chamber, then walked toward the second chamber. As for using the Vein Awakening Herb to unblock his veins, Eryx planned to do that only after leaving this ghostly tomb.

Arriving in front of the second stone chamber along the left wall, Eryx observed the wooden door for a few moments. It looked exactly like the first one.

When he pushed it, the door crumbled like dry mud, just as the door of the first chamber had.

There was nothing special about the second stone chamber as well.

Just like the first stone chamber, ghostly blue flames were burning on the wall, providing enough light to see everything inside clearly.

As he stepped inside, Eryx saw a small pool filled with milky white liquid in the center of the chamber. Apart from this pool, there was nothing else here either.
