Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 - I See Her Eyes

After a short call, Ernest hung up his phone and returned it to his sling bag.

Maybe because the cloaked woman thought Ernest wouldn't fight back, she turned her attention to dealing with the wounds on her body.

Without hesitation, she tore the bottom cloth from her cloak, and then she tied the torn cloth to her injured shoulder.

"Urgh!"

The woman's groan could be heard as she tightened the cloth on her wound to prevent the blood from leaking out again.

Although the woman had lowered the dagger that threatened Ernest, she still occasionally glared at him. As a result, she had difficulty tying the knot on the cloth she wrapped around her wound.

Ernest ignored the cloaked woman, and his gaze was fixed on the rearview mirror. He checked whether there were people who chasing him and the cloaked woman or not.

He thought that the people who were supposed to chase them would take a long time to catch up because they would have to go downstairs first, get a vehicle, and then start chasing. But before Ernest drove the car too far, several cars were already seen coming out of the underground parking lot.

"Looks like we've wasted too much time chatting. If you can, please fasten your seat belts! I'm going to speed up a bit now."

Ernest gave the order as if he was worried about the safety of the cloaked woman.

However, from the cloaked woman's point of view, she thought that Ernest couldn't possibly be worried about her because she was taking him hostage.

Seeing that the cloaked woman didn't want to obey his orders, Ernest smiled and immediately entered race mode. Instantly, the smell of burning rubber and high-octane fuel hung thick in the air as the car he was riding in raced through the streets.

Although the Toyota Camry Ernest was driving was just a mid-range sedan that focused more on comfort, reliability, and fuel efficiency, he managed to maximize the distance advantage that had already been far adrift from the start.

The main problem Ernest now faced was how to escape without being caught by the people chasing him and the police or military soldiers who were probably not far outside the Milk district.

Therefore, he was just spinning around in circles with no direction to go. The first thing that he thought about was how to get out of the Milk district.

Suddenly, a clue came uninvited.

- For the citizens of Orlando and surrounding areas, we have received good news from the local government that a dungeon has been detected to be forming at Orlando International Airport.

The sound of the radio that Ernest hadn't turned off rang out and almost startled the cloaked woman beside him to death.

It would have been nice if she had removed the dagger in her hand as a reflex to her surprise, however, she instead almost plunged her dagger into his neck after finishing tying the cloth to her wound.

"Eekk!!!"

Luckily Ernest had time to react and managed to dodge. Nevertheless, his neck was still slashed slightly until blood appeared, dripped down, and soaked his shirt along with the cold sweat that emerged from his pores.

"I will remind you. Before you kill me, whether intentionally or not, I will crash this car so that you will also die with me!"

Ernest squinted his eyes and frowned. He gave her a warning while stroking his neck as if he wanted to know whether his neck was still intact or had been cut.

The cloaked woman did not respond to Ernest's words, but instead just returned the dagger in her hand to Ernest's neck as before.

Behind Ernest's serious expression, his mouth twitched slightly as if he was holding back laughter. In his heart, he thought that the cloaked girl looked like a sensitive kitten.

He couldn't see her face because of the head covering and veil that covered her expression, but he guessed that she was awkward because she had been surprised and overreacted.

Seeing her startled reaction, he could tell that she was in a very tense state. The human body tends to be easily startled when the tension in their nerves is also on edge.

"Did you hear what the radio announcer said earlier?" the cloaked woman said, sounding like she was trying to change the subject.

"Of course."

It seemed that not only Ernest understood, but she also understood.

The reason the radio announcer had said the discovery of the dungeon was good news for the public was that within a several-mile radius, only one magical event could occur at a time. No other magical incidents would arise in residential areas. This was good news for the people of Orlando and the surrounding areas.

- According to the information, Orlando International Airport is already among the areas that have been sterilized by the government from human activities the day before. Therefore, it's highly likely there won't be any casualties. Moreover, thanks to technology from the government, the worst situation can be prevented by detecting where possible magical events will appear.

There was also good news for Ernest and the cloaked woman. The police and military soldiers would definitely be deployed to Orlando International Airport rather than being spread out in various places. They would definitely gather there and other areas would be safe from their patrols.

Without further ado, Ernest rushed out of the Milk District without fear of encountering the police or military personnel.

"It seems that we're quite lucky... Oops! Looks like I've provoked a death flag."

Ernest was initially happy that he had been able to get out of the Milk District and had managed to take a considerable distance with the pursuers. But, bad luck came as he let out positive words.

When Ernest looked in the rearview mirror, he was confused as to why there were still cars following him.

Were his driving skills so bad that they could easily overtake him? He felt that was not the case.

"Do you have anything that can make them track your location?"

"I'm sure there isn't."

"If so, there must be a scout who keeps them informed of our location."

That was the only explanation for how they could keep pursuing, even after Ernest had taken several sharp turns to throw them off.

Ernest tried to figure out which building the scouts might be from, but he soon gave up as the rats tailing him had raised their machine guns.

They opened the top of their car, loaded the bullets, unlocked their gun safety, and immediately pulled the trigger of their machine gun.

Bang! Bang! ....

The sound of gunfire roared like thunder, invisible gunpowder scattered in the air, and flashes of orange light dazzled every time a trigger was pulled.

Crash!

The rear windshield of Ernest's car was shattered, forcing Ernest to duck as much as he could. When he looked down, he did not expect that the woman in the cloak beside him also ducked together with him.

Automatically a romantic scene was created when both of their heads were in a very close distance. Ernest could even hear her breathing, which brought a sense of suffering and tension.

Unfortunately, the scene couldn't last long.

B-Bang! Bang!
