Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Scheming

To be honest, Adam didn't believe what the young man kneeling in front of him said. High-temperature, heat-resistant aviation alloy is a unique material used by NASA and the aerospace industry in the United States.

Even if some quantity of it leaked into private hands, it would be minimal and highly expensive. Using it for advanced technology or critical components made sense, but to build a door? Even someone as wealthy as Tony Stark wouldn't be so wasteful.

However, Adam only thought about it for a moment before Tony Stark returned with a grim expression.

"It's high-temperature heat-resistant alloy. My laser can't cut through it," Tony admitted.

Adam was shocked. What kind of prodigal organization would use such rare and expensive materials to construct a door?

"Okay, open the door. And don't even think about trying anything," Tony said in a stern voice, fixing his gaze on the scientist in the white coat.

"Thank you, thank you!" the man stammered, expressing his gratitude.

"Wait," Adam interjected, stopping the man before he could reach the console.

"Sir, is something the matter?" The scientist forced a strained smile, his face pale and trembling.

"Just adding some insurance," Adam said with a sharp grin. He retrieved a collar from one of the steel armors and fastened it around the scientist's neck.

A soft "beep" sounded as the collar locked in place.

"What… what is this?" the scientist asked, his voice shaking.

"Nothing much, just an explosive collar. It contains a specialized charge equivalent to ten kilograms of TNT," Adam explained in an almost cheerful tone. "A single thought from me, and it'll blow. You understand what that means, right?"

The scientist swallowed hard, sweat pouring down his face. "Y-yes, I understand. I'll cooperate. There's something else I forgot to mention."

"You'd better. What did you forget?" Adam prompted, his smile as cold as steel.

"There are three high-energy laser emitters in the passage. If you enter the wrong way, they'll activate. But don't worry, I can disable them from here," the scientist admitted, clearly terrified.

"Then what are you waiting for? Turn them off," Adam said sharply, gesturing to the console.

The scientist scrambled to the controls, and soon the massive metal door began to creak open, revealing a long passageway.

Adam scrutinized the mechanical structure. "No wonder Skynet couldn't access this place—it's purely mechanical. There's almost no electronic component to hack into," he muttered.

He turned back to the scientist. "Are you sure there's nothing else?" Adam asked, narrowing his eyes. "Because if there is, you'll be the first to test this passage."

The scientist flinched, stammering, "N-no, nothing else."

"Good. Lead the way," Adam said, motioning forward.

The scientist hesitated but complied, walking nervously ahead. Adam and Tony Stark followed closely, their suits primed for any threats.

The passage led to a massive underground laboratory the size of a football field. Inside, large glass tanks lined the walls, each containing a naked human suspended in liquid.

"What are these?" Tony asked, his voice filled with curiosity and unease.

"The final experimental subjects," the scientist replied. "They're Extremis Warriors—biological weapons created to eliminate any enemy."

"Extremis Warriors, huh?" Adam said, his tone skeptical. "And how effective are they in combat?"

"You'll see soon enough," the scientist muttered, his voice gaining an ominous edge. Before Adam could react, the man moved behind one of the tanks, grinning maliciously.
