11. The Secret Of The Moon Of Twin Crescents
Eryndor was still shaken by the fact that he might have been conversing with an ancient being. Keeping this in mind he lowered his voice and asked. "Who are you?"
The voice responded after a while. "Who I am does not matter, at least not to the current you. What matters now is who you want to be."
Eryndor was now deeply confused. "Why am I the important one here? I'm a nobody and you are a stranger to me, what's so special about me?"
The answer that he received from the strange voice cast him into a deep thought. "Nothing! You have nothing."
Eryndor sniffled back the tears that were starting to form. "Gee thanks, you really know how to make a guy feel motivated."
"You having nothing makes you the perfect candidate." The voice continued slipping in a sliver of hope. "Have you heard of the secret of the moon of twin crescents?"
Eryndor raised his head and thought back to where he had heard it before. It sounded so familiar. "Damn, I hate myself for not taking anything serious." He screamed in his head.
Just then the system came up again:
[Quest Alert!]
[Task: Uncover the secret of the moon of twin crescents.]
[Reward: +10 Intelligence, Unlock Hidden Feature: "Legacy of the Crescent Prince."]
Eryndor almost screamed in shock, he thought to himself. "Could it be the system is actually a guideline for me? But if it was tailored to suit my needs then that would mean, I had it all wrong." It was then he realized a hidden aspect of his system or at least he assumed he did.
He considered that his system showed him two things, the first was his degenerate self, his system was the [Divine System of Degenerate Growth]. Why had he never considered that this meant him growing into a better person. He was too blinded to taste his pleasures and realized it too late.
"What's the legacy of the crescent prince?" The question managed to slip out of him.
He could feel the bearer of the enigmatic voice boring into him causing him to feel a deep sense of unease in the pit of his stomach. He felt considerably small in the presence of the being.
"You seem to have a bit of knowledge on the matter." The voice gave a brief pause before continuing. "The legend goes back to over a thousand years ago. The crescent prince was the first being to achieve the title of monarch, but he died under strange phenomenas, leading to a dispute between the other monarchs. At a certain time every 500 years there is a strange phenomenon called the moon of twin crescents, only a handful of children are born on this special day and those children each carry the legacy of the crescent prince."
Eryndor was still struggling to come to terms with what he had just head but the voice was not going to give him any time to process it.
"These legacies each have their own special abilities meaning that one of them could possibly end up being the next Divine Monarch and preventing a great calamity."
Eryndor was shocked, his mouth agape, his head on the verge of exploding from the newfound information. A degenerate like him was a candidate for such power?
The voice then proceeded to chuckle before saying. "Compared to the other legacies I would say you are the lowest. But do you still choose to follow this path or carve your own."
Eryndor sat up and thought, this thinking thing was a bit new to him. He was not just born by chance, he was born with a purpose, a purpose he would carve with his very hands. For the first time he would live his own life.
Knowing there would be challenges and obstacles in his way he strengthened his resolve and spoke. "What do I have to do?"
The voice went silent for a minute before speaking again. "This path you have chosen is uncertain, but perhaps you will grow into it. How would you like to be my disciple?"
Eryndor first held a confused face before gasping. Being the disciple to an ancient entity that was over a thousand years would most certainly be better than having nothing. He smiled and said. "Yes please."
The voice gave a dark chuckle that made Eryndor rethink his words. What if this being was some calamity like a devil or something, would he risk unleashing something so grave on this world just to satisfy his own goals? If this was the only chance he would get, he might!
"Fine, but on one condition." The voice said.
Eryndor squeezed his knees in anticipation and asked. "What?"
The voice responded with a sharp tone. "That you will one day release me."
Eryndor gulped down, it was the very thing he had feared. To release an entity that would probably be one thousand years stronger than anything on the continent. Mustering up all the courage he had left in him, he asked. "If I release you what will you do?"
The voice chuckled in a grim manner causing the air to permeate with a bone chilling aura. Eryndor was unsure if he could last another minute under this pressure, he felt if he made a misstep he would be dead in seconds.
"What I do when I am free is none of your business boy, do we have a deal?" The voice did not fail to hide the raw power within them making Eryndor to feel small and insignificant.
Eryndor hesitated thinking about everything that had led up to this moment, if this being saw a great potential in him then maybe he really should accept the offer but what if he was wrong and the being was just using his situation to exploite him.
"My boy when you are feeling lost, look into you heart and ask, what do you want?" He remembered his mother Lysithea's words, she always gave him lessons like this. Surprisingly only her lessons actually stayed with him.
If he was to chose the will in his heart then his answer would be— "I accept to be your disciple."
A dark chuckle shook the room. "Very bold boy. As you become my disciple I will give you my golden eye, and we will share a temporary bond."
Eryndor opened his mouth and asked. "What do you mean by golden eye?"
A moment later silence greeted the room as the strange presence vanished. A short while after something came flying through the window and zipping around the room, it was a small golden ball. Eryndor was still frozen by shock when the strange object impacted him in his left eye and caused him to lose his bearing.
He grunted as he fell on his back, the only thing he saw was the system:
