[She is coming back tomorrow. She wants to meet you. I booked a table for you both at Green Orchid. Don't forget to reach the place by six p.m. tomorrow.]
Myra Gu's pupils constricted as she read the message on her husband - Asher Han's - phone.
Her husband was in the shower, and when she heard his phone ringing, she subconsciously looked at it, only to find this message from his friend, Riley Sun.
She was confused when she read the message as she did not understand who the 'she' in the message was. But for some reason, she had an ominous feeling in her heart.
When she felt the phone in her hand vibrate again, her eyes shook as she slowly lowered them to take a glance.
Her hand slipped as the phone fell when she read the message. Luckily, she was sitting on the bed and the phone fell on the soft mattress, so neither did it break nor make any sound.
However, she was not in a condition to care about the phone anymore.
Her mind went blank as the message she had just read was stuck in front of her eyes - stinging them like needles.
It read: [I think it is time for you to divorce. Don't delay anymore.]
'Divorce?' From the time she married Asher Han three years back, she had never once thought of getting a divorce.
After all, she married him for love. Not some deal that could be canceled at any time.
But why was Riley Sun talking about divorce now?
Also, what did he mean by not 'delaying' anymore?
Does that mean that Asher Han had been thinking about divorce for a long time but did not go through with it?
There were hundreds of questions in Myra Gu's mind but not a single answer.
Divorce.
Divorce.
Divorce.
That was the only word that was dancing around in front of her eyes.
Why does he want to get a divorce?
For the 'she' that just 'came back' in the earlier message?
Who exactly is 'she'?
Why should she get a divorce just because 'she' came back?
Why are there only more questions?
After a long time, she couldn't hear the sound of running water anymore. She understood that he was done with his shower.
She took a deep breath and controlled all her emotions.
She took the phone that had just fallen onto the bed and removed all the evidence that she had gone through before placing it back in its previous position.
As soon as she lay down on the bed, the door to the bathroom opened and Asher Han came out while wiping his wet hair with a towel.
He wrapped his lower body with a towel while his torso was in full view. His defined abs were a sight to behold.
If it was any other day, Myra Gu would have wanted to touch him, but now she was not in the mood.
When she looked at his well-defined body, all she could think was the 'she', for whom he was about to leave her. Many graphic images entered her mind which made her eyes go red.
She clenched her fist at the side where he couldn't see and smiled at him as she got up from the bed.
She went to the closet and got him a set of pajamas and handed them to him just like she always does.
He did not see any change in her expression and smiled back at her.
Until that day, she never sensed anything, but now she felt something different.
The way he looked at her was way too polite. It was not with love like she had thought all this while. Instead, this smile looked like one that could be given to a friendly neighbor.
Until now, she had been in love with him and thought he was also in love with her. Hence, in her colored glasses, she had seen a different world. Only now did she feel like the glasses in front of her eyes changed.
The glasses of love were gone and in exchange came the glasses of doubt.
The color of her world changed from pink to green so suddenly that she was not at all ready for this new change.
She started to think of many past instances where she thought he had done it out of love for her, but now it looked like they were just out of politeness. That was just the respect he was giving her as his 'wife'.
She frowned when she recalled all those incidents.
Asher Han finally saw that something was wrong with her expression and asked her, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
If it was before, she would think his question was because he loved her and observed her minute expressions. Only now did she realize how polite his words sounded.
It was not that he did not care for her. It was just that he did not love her.
She wanted to ask him, 'Did you ever love me?'
But she was scared to hear the answer. What if he says 'no'? She couldn't bear to live anymore.
She felt her heart clench. But now was not the time to fall weak. She should know all the details before she could prove him guilty. Until then, she wouldn't say a word.
She simply shook her head, "I am fine. I am just having my period. So my stomach hurts a little. Nothing more."
"Oh. Take a rest then," He nodded his head and said calmly before going to change into his pajamas.
She went to bed and covered herself in a blanket, but she couldn't fall asleep for a long time as many wild thoughts ran through her mind.
When it was morning, Asher Han left for the office in the morning, while Myra Gu did not wake up until it was almost noon.
After freshening up and having brunch, she recalled the message she had read the night before.
She took her phone out and dialed the number of her best friend, Avery Chen.
"Myra? What's up? Why did you call me so suddenly? Have any work with me?" Avery Chen's chirpy voice rang from the phone.
"Are you accusing me of not calling you unless I have some work with you?" Myra Gu pouted, but she actually accepted this accusation as it was true that ever since she married Asher Han, she had not contacted her as regularly as she did before.
"It's good that you still understand me, hmph. Anyway, what's the matter?" After she finished sulking, she became serious and asked.
"Let's have dinner at your Hotel. I will tell you then," Myra Gu replied seriously.
"My Hotel? At Green Orchid?"
"Yes."
"Sure. At what time?"
"Let's meet at least a few minutes before six p.m." Myra Gu recalled that the so-called dinner with 'her' was at six, and she needed to be before them if she had to spy on them.
From her words, Avery Chen could already sense something, but she did not ask her anything. She simply said, "Let's meet up at five-thirty. We can finish eating by six that way and get to the matter."
Myra Gu smiled faintly. Avery Chen is indeed her best friend. Despite not being in contact for a long time, she was still the one who could understand her the best.
***
"Myra, you are here!" Avery Chen greeted her enthusiastically as soon as she saw her entering the hotel.
Myra Gu greeted her before she pulled her towards the washroom.
"What are you doing?" Avery Chen asked as she saw Myra Gu taking out a blonde wig and large sunglasses that could almost cover her entire face.
Myra Gu did not reply as she busied herself putting on her wig and changing her entire face in an instant using some basic make-up.
Since she came straight from her house, she couldn't change her appearance when she left. Otherwise, the servants might slip up in front of Asher Han. She doesn't want to alert him yet.
Once she was done, she looked at Avery Chen and said, "Check for the reservation with the name Asher Han or Sun Junjie. Get a table near the table reserved under that name."
Since The Green Orchid belongs to Avery Chen's family, finding out these details and arranging the table was nothing difficult for her.
When she heard that she had to check the name Asher Han, she understood that her good friend was there to spy on her dear husband and was shocked.
But she did not ask for the details immediately. Since Asher Han would be here by six, she had to make the appropriate arrangements before then. She had no time left and thus had to hurry.
She could arrange a table that was a table away from the one reserved for Asher Han.
As soon as they sat down, Avery Chen asked her directly with a serious face, "Is Asher Han coming here with a woman?"
