Ray stood frozen for a moment, watching the fierce battle between his black-feathered chicken and the towering Green Serpent. His chicken, though quick and agile, was struggling to hold its own against the colossal serpent. The serpent's massive frame and thick, impenetrable scales made it seem nearly invincible.
Ray gritted his teeth, his fists clenching in frustration."Damn it… the chicken's at a disadvantage in so many ways. If it could just fly, this fight might be easier."
His gaze flickered to Lucian, who cowered behind the chicken for protection. The chicken was not only fighting for its life but also shielding Lucian.
Ray exhaled sharply, forcing himself to think. The chicken's speed and agility were its only real advantages, but they wouldn't last forever. One direct hit from the serpent's venomous fangs, and it would be over. I can't just stand here and watch. I've got to do something!
With a sharp motion, Ray shoved his sword into his system's storage. "I guess it can't be helped… I have to help, too."
He took a step back, planting his feet in a stance, his weight shifting slightly.A slow, mischievous grin spread across his face, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement.
"Well, well… being rich is also a kind of power, you know."His voice dropped to a low murmur, the words laced with a chilling edge. "They say if you aren't strong enough to swing a sword…"He paused, letting out a low, sinister chuckle, "…be rich enough to throw hundreds of swords instead."
His laugh echoed through the tense battlefield, unnerving even himself. The disfigured grin that spread across his face was unlike him, a twisted reflection of desperation and exhilaration.
The Green Serpent froze mid-movement, its body trembling slightly. A strange shiver ran down its spine. Its forked tongue flicked out nervously, searching for the source of the unsettling energy. The serpent turned its massive head, scanning its surroundings. Seeing nothing, it resumed its battle with the chicken.
As for the weak-looking human standing far away, the serpent didn't even spare him a second glance. Ray was far too insignificant in its eyes.
The black chicken darted forward suddenly, its sharp claws slashing at the serpent's massive body. The strike connected, leaving a faint scratch on the serpent's tail.
The serpent hissed and countered with a powerful swing of its tail, smacking the chicken away. The attack didn't seem to faze the serpent much it barely felt the injury but the chicken was relentless.
Ray sighed, watching the exchange. "The chicken's quick, but its attacks barely leave a mark. The serpent's scales are too thick. Both are at the same cultivation level, but they're playing to the strengths of their species. If the serpent gets in one good hit, it's all over."
He clenched his fists. "I have to be fast. I have to kill that serpent before my chicken gets taken out."
Without wasting another second, Ray called on the system.
"System, open a portal!" he commanded.
In an instant, a swirling blue-and-black portal appeared behind him, hovering in mid-air. The portal wasn't large just big enough to fit an arm through but it radiated an otherworldly energy.
With a wicked grin, Ray plunged both hands into the portal. When he pulled them out, each hand held a sword. The blades gleamed in the faint light, their edges sharp and ready.
"Well, well… both four-star weapons." He smirked, the dark amusement never leaving his face. "This is going to be fun."
Ray almost had 500-800 weapons stored in his system rewards from countless fusion experiments. Sometimes it was food, sometimes clothing, but often, it was weapons. And now, they were finally going to prove useful.
Bracing himself, Ray shifted his weight onto his back foot. With all the strength in his body, he hurled one of the swords at the serpent.
The blade spun rapidly through the air and struck the serpent's neck.
Clang!
The sword barely pierced the serpent's tough scales, leaving only a shallow wound. A single drop of blood trickled down its neck, but the serpent didn't even notice.
Ray gritted his teeth. "It didn't even feel that…"
The serpent continued its battle with the chicken, ignoring Ray entirely.
Ray growled in frustration. "If one weapon doesn't work…" He reached into the portal and pulled out another sword. "…then I'll use more!"
He hurled the second sword. Then another. And another.
Swords, knives, spears, tridents even hammers flew through the air, each one aimed at the serpent's neck.
For five long minutes,Ray didn't stop. His arms burned with exhaustion, his breath came in ragged gasps, but he kept going.Weapons littered the ground around the serpent, each one a testament to his relentless assault.
Finally, Ray hurled the last weapon a heavy hammer. The hammer struck the serpent's neck with a resounding thud, hitting the same spot that had been battered repeatedly.
The serpent hissed loudly, recoiling in pain. Its neck, once pristine and impenetrable, was now a bloody mess. The repeated attacks had worn down its defenses, leaving a large, gaping wound. Blood poured from the injury, staining the ground beneath it.
Ray collapsed onto the ground, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. Sweat dripped down his face, and his arms felt like lead.
"Ha… ha…"He looked up at the serpent, his vision blurry. "Finally…"
The serpent writhed in pain, its movements sluggish.Every time it tried to move its neck, it winced, the injury clearly affecting it.
Ray lips curled into a tired smirk."Looks like…I finally got your attention."
The serpent hissed in fury, its golden eyes locking onto Ray. It finally understood who had been attacking it so relentlessly.
But every time it tried to charge at Ray, the black chicken intercepted it, holding its ground despite its smaller size.
Ray forced himself to sit up, his body trembling from exhaustion."I'm… almost out of weapons. If this doesn't work…"
Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind. "Oh, yeah… the reward chests!"
He called out weakly, "System… open both Novice chests."
