Chapter 7 - System crash

The voice echoed in Ray's mind, calm yet tinged with a faint hint of sarcasm.

"[A little slow, Host. I'm not going anywhere. And please, be gentle… cough, cough.]"

Ray blinked, his confusion deepening as he processed the words. "What…?" He mumbled, glancing around the dense forest surrounding him. He sighed heavily, shaking his head to clear his thoughts. "Alright, what's your function? Tell me already," he demanded, his voice steady, carrying the authority of someone accustomed to being obeyed.

A moment of silence followed, then the voice returned, devoid of emotion.

System Main Function:

Combine two monsters of the same gender and cultivation level.

Fusion results in a higher-level monster with combined traits and powers.

Ray's eyebrows shot up, disbelief written across his face. "Wait, what? What kind of weird function is that? Are you telling me if I take two monsters with the same cultivation and gender and fuse them, they'll jump up a level?" His tone was laced with skepticism. "Is that what you're saying?"

"[100 percent correct, Host.]"

A bitter laugh escaped Ray's lips. "That's absolute nonsense. Do you even understand what you're talking about?" His voice rose, incredulous. "I'm from the Direct Lineage of the Primordial Family, one of the strongest in the cosmos. Even my father, who's lived for trillions of years, never mentioned anything like this. It's impossible! Cultivation isn't something you can shortcut with some fusion trick. It goes against the laws of the heavens."

The system responded, its tone now laced with mild derision.

"[It's true, Host. I don't know what kind of nonsense you're spouting about fathers and trillions of years. Did you hit your head just now?]"

Ray coughed awkwardly, waving his hand as if brushing off the question. "Ah, no, no. Nothing. You continue."

He rubbed his temples, muttering under his breath. It hasn't figured out the change yet... but the memories said this system was an invincible cheat code. He exhaled slowly. Well, let's see if it works.

"Alright, guess I'll give it a shot," he muttered, rolling his shoulders and cracking his knuckles, ready to test the system's claims.

Suddenly, a jarring noise filled his head.

System crash warning!

Warning! Another soul detected in host body!

Ray clutched his head, wincing as a sharp pain sliced through his temples. "Ahh, what the hell is happening?"

A red, translucent screen flashed before his eyes, flickering erratically. He squinted, trying to make sense of the chaotic alerts filling the air around him.

Warning: System crash imminent.

System analyzing problem... failed.

Attempting to unbind... failed.

Deleting AI program... failed.

Deleting system motherboard... failed.

Self-destruction initiated...

Ray stared at the screen, his bewilderment growing as the red hue dimmed, only to flare up again, this time in a deep, ominous purple. Strange symbols shifted, rearranging themselves into readable words.

Ultimate Abandoned System Online.

"Survived…?" Ray murmured, curiosity sparking despite the chaos. The screen continued, its tone more somber now.

Apologies. No guide or helper available. You must learn everything yourself.

Main Function: Monster Fusion.

Advanced side functions will unlock progressively.

First side function: Double Automatic Cultivation.

Ray scratched his head, his brow furrowing in confusion. "This seems weird," he muttered. Then, a slow grin crept across his face. "Well, this just got interesting."

His gaze shifted to the screen as he focused on the side notification for the Advanced Side Functions. With a thought, he clicked on it, eager to explore what lay beneath the surface.

The panel expanded, revealing the functions available:

First Side Function: Double Automatic Cultivation.

Second Side Function: ?????

Third Side Function: ?????

Fourth Side Function: ?????

??? Side Function: ?????

Ray scrolled down as far as the interface would let him, noting the seemingly endless list of locked functions. "Well, only one is showing for now," he mused, tapping his chin thoughtfully.

Curiosity got the better of him, and he clicked on the second function with his mind. A red notification popped up, a harsh sound accompanying the message:

[Ding! Cannot be accessed before upgrading your first function to level two. Insufficient spirit stones.]

"Huh?" Ray raised an eyebrow, his confusion deepening. "Upgrading the first function to level two?"

Not one to give up easily, he tried clicking on the third function. Again, the system responded with a red notification:

[Ding! Cannot be accessed. Upgrade both level one and level two functions to level three before gaining permission to open.]

"What the…?" Ray muttered, his frustration mounting. He clicked on the fifth function, determined to test its limits.

[Ding! Cannot be accessed. Upgrade all upper levels from one to four to level four functions to gain permission to open.]

Ray's hands dropped to his sides as he let out an exasperated sigh. "Oh, fkkk. If it's like this, it's going to be a hard run…"

He shook his head, muttering under his breath. "So, it says I need to upgrade all the functions simultaneously to unlock the next one. No leaving anything behind… even more complicated than I thought."

His mind churned as he tried to figure out the system's mechanics. "But how do I upgrade the function?" he wondered aloud. With renewed determination, he clicked on the first function, Double Automatic Cultivation.

The screen shifted, and a detailed information panel opened up:

Function Name: Automatic Cultivation

Description: This system automatically enhances the host's cultivation speed, allowing passive progress without active effort.

Ray's eyes widened as he read on, the details becoming clearer.

1. Automatic Cultivation:

The function boosts cultivation speed, running in the background as the host continues other activities.

A "set it and forget it" mechanism for cultivation, designed to optimize time.

2. Leveling System for Speed:

Each level significantly increases the training speed.

Level 1: Doubles (2x) the speed of cultivation.

Level 2: Increases to 4x speed.

By Level 8, the speed could reach an astronomical 128x faster.

3. Resource Consumption (Spirit Stones):

Each upgrade requires Spirit Stones, a valuable resource.

Level 1: Costs 100 Spirit Stones for a 2x boost over 24 hours.

Level 2: Costs 1,000 Spirit Stones for a 4x boost.

Level 8: Costs 1 billion Spirit Stones for a 128x boost.

Ray's jaw dropped as he stared at the screen. His mind struggled to comprehend the sheer magnitude of what he was seeing. "What the fkkk?!" he exclaimed, his voice echoing in the quiet forest.

"This… this is insane! It doesn't make any sense!" His heart raced, disbelief etched across his face. "This system… it's just… bullshit!"

He paced back and forth, running a hand through his hair, trying to wrap his head around the impossibility before him. "I've never seen anything like this," he muttered. "How is this even possible? It defies everything I know about cultivation…"
