Chapter 16 - DUNGEON GATE

Reid leapt up like a spark jumping out of a raging fire. He had just agrivated some poor bull- elemental spirit beasts and now his fist was falling like a meteor, flaring red as it descended on a bull's head.

BOOM !

The impact of fist and skull reverberated throughout the clearing. But Reid did not stop with just one strike. He actively thrusted himself towards the nearest bull elemental, his fist crashing the bulls ribcage like twin battering rams.

Standing tall, Reid weaved then rolled onto the hot sulphur stones as he evadded two incoming bull elementals which charged towards him with fury in their eyes. All their brethren were dead because of this smiling daemon !

Initially, they had defeated this daemon when they were almost thirty. But he kept coming back, luring and killing untill only a dozen or so remained.

And now only two remained !

Reid started playing with them, only dodging and striking with minimal force. He had noticed something just now as he fought the elemental bull. He had noticed how sloppy his movements were, they were too slow and unreactive.

" I am too sloppy, too slow to react fast enough. If these bulls had just better speed than me, I would be toast!!"

BOOM !

He then delivered a sharp blow to the side of a bull's jaw, carefully not to kill it. Then he realized ..

" If I meet someone with the same stats as me... No! Someone even slightly weaker than me but has slightly good technique, can I win ?

would I even last five moves ? "

He had noticed his lack of technique. Something that could easily change the tide of battle, hence he decided to train himself with these remaining two spirit beasts.

Boom !!

Puchii !!

He had miscalculated.

Reid was trying to hold back his strength but it still ended with a violent splurting of blood. He had now just accidentally killed his two training buddies.

He had forggoten something. Reid had forgotten that his body was in a state of wealth, and that he had been growing stronger ever since the start of this bull slaughter.

He was now at a state of balance !

" Ooh, the stat ++have been added ! "

Reid exclaimed as he touched his forehead calling onto his status screen to confirm.

He was right, he had reached a state of balance.

The +5% on some of the stats had thrown his offguard for a moment but he just glanced at his clothes and smiled, fealing proud buying them.

Reaching out to his forehead, trying to dismiss the system, something caught Reid's eye.

His perception was in a state of balance !

His interest was picked. Why was his perception in a state of balance?

What did he do for his + perception points to be fully intergrated into his body?

Why did the other mental stats not behave in the same way?

What made perception different ?

Then it hit home!

" Perception directly involve my senses ! So does fighting aid my perception slowly as it gets in a state of balance ? "

Although it was still an insinuation , Reid was still edging towards that explanation.

If only he could actively ask the system itself !

But who knows, maybe one day he could !!

Atleast that was what Reid hopped for.

The system had been adjusting to some of his theories, as if affirming them whenever he deduces them. It was as if his system was evolving , growing as Reid finds out it's mechanisms.

One scenario where the system evolved was when Reid found out about his bodies state of wealth , balance and deficit.

It had actively changed the status point allocation by adding a plus sign to show that points have not been intergrated into him.

This happened when he leveled up to level two (2). At level one the system did have this feature, clearly showing its growth.

....

Finally, Reid dismissed his status screen, moving steadily at the gate located near the centre of the clearing. The clearing was eerily quiet after Reid struck the final blow.

Catching his breath, Reid moved around the gate. Looking at it as he scrutinized every single detail.

It was unsupported by any structure, hovering a foot above the ground. The gate had no visible hinges or frame, merely two floating halves of an intricate double door.

The doors themselves were forged of an unidentifiable obsidian-like material, their surfaces adorned with flowing, interlocking symbols that pulsed faintly with crimson light.

The symbols resembled veins, pulsating in rhythm, as if the gate were alive and breathing.

Reid approached cautiously, his boots crunching against the heated stones. The warmth intensified the closer he got, and the oppressive air made each step feel heavier.

Inspecting it, Reid noticed that the space within the doorway seemed to distort, bending light as if it were a vertical pool of rippling water. Shadows and streaks of light swirling inside, forming fleeting shapes that almost resembled figures...until they dissolved.

Occasionally, a faint whisper would escape the surface of the distortion, unintelligible but laced with a strange allure.

Reid knelt to examine the base. Not seeing any foundation connecting the gate to the ground. Instead, tendrils of the crimson light extended from its lower edge, sinking like roots into the stones.

Where the tendrils touched, the stones glowed faintly, their heat intensifying in response.

" Did this gate make the stones hot? "

Reaching out cautiously, Reid brushed his fingers over one of the glowing symbols right about the gate's base. The material was surprisingly cold to the touch,an unsettling contrast to the surrounding heat.

The symbol flared brighter, as if reacting to his touch. This sent shivers down his spine like a premonition warning him to stay away.

Bug it was too late.

The dungeon gate shuddered. Followed by a low, rumbling growl that echoed through the clearing, like the first tremor of an earthquake.

Instinctively, Reid shot to the edge of the clearing like a streaking light . Looking at the gate with an indifferent look.

Then it opened, spiritual energy chaotically acting up in the whole clearing as if displaying nature's wrath.

In between the chaos, Reid got sight of something huge moving, his danger senses screaming for him to run.

But he did not .... No! He could not. The aura released by the thing he had seen had completely suppressed him. Despare evident in his eyes.

Then it moved, showing itself with an annoyed look.

Reid trembled in fear, as a massive fire elemental bull minotaur stepped through the gate. Its body radiating heat, steam rising off its crimson skin, while flames danced

along its horns and shoulders.

At it's waist hung huge twin blades that were Connected by a thick chain, clinking ominously as it approached. It's burning eyes locked on the only creature present in the clearing !

Reid Brown !!
