The words muttered by Ilya, although they were faint, it didn't go unnoticed by Alfred who courted a small smile of victory, happy that he had made her annoyed.
The waiter who was unaware of the tension spewing between the two, turned to Ilya with a smile.
"And what will you be ordering, ma'am?"
Ilya looked to be breathing hard and because of this, she selected a random dish to order.
"I'll have whatever that is."
The waiter smiled and turned to leave. "Young couples these days, they're never ashamed to bring their issues in public. Well, it's none of my business, their anger has caused an increase for me. She selected the most expensive menu we had." The waiter was actually the owner of the restaurant. He turned back to look at them and smiled in the process. He assumed they were in love, but he could have never been more wrong.
Back at the table, Ilya glared at Alfred who casually sipped water from the glass in his hands. She was extremely frustrated and annoyed with herself that she had decided to follow him and even thought he had changed.
"So, why did you want to talk to me, miss? Do I know you perhaps?"
As soon as he had asked that question, he wanted to smack himself in the head.
Ilya had a surprised expression on her face.
She stood up from her seat and slapped some bills on the table.
"As usual, it's a waste of time talking to you."
"Is she perhaps my girlfriend? Considering the way she's acting. But, if she really is my girlfriend then she wouldn't look down on me."
Ilya turned to leave but right at that second, she felt a hand grab hers.
"Please don't go…" Alfred pleaded, his eyes looking conflicted.
Her face heated in an instant as she wondered what was wrong with him. All through the time that she had known him, he had never done anything like this.
'Does…does he like me?' she thought to herself.
Meanwhile, Alfred was seething inwardly. Women were extra weird creatures and the fact that the numbers weren't increasing made him feel senile.
Ilya stopped and looked irritated but she stood nonetheless. Alfred took this opportunity to guide her back to her seat.
The people watching their actions in the restaurant couldn't help but swoon.
"That boy is an absolute keeper, and he doesn't look too bad either." They muttered to themselves.
"Now, I'll talk. The truth is I don't remember anything. Maybe it's temporary or not, I am not sure yet. And I know that you may not believe me but it's true. I really don't remember anyone." Alfred confessed.
'He doesn't seem to be lying but how could someone lose their memories so easily? Or maybe he was involved in an accident? Not like I actually care.'
'Fuck it!' Alfred yelled in his mind but he managed a small smile on his face.
"But, one thing I know that I remember is right here." He slowly placed his hands on his chest, where his heart was located. "My feelings for you are as strong as ever and I don't want you to doubt it.It's frustrating that I cannot remember you but something keeps on drawing me to you." He paused for dramatic effect. "I love you."
Ilya suddenly coughed out, covering her face with her hands.
'Did it work? It had better work. I honestly couldn't have just done all that for no reason at all. My guts keeps telling me I hate this lady sitting in front of me.'
"Status! Daily tasks!" He yelled in his mind, preparing himself to curse the life out of the system if there was no change.
[Have an healthy breakfast: Task failed]
[Talk to a girl?: 35%]
[Error!]
[Error nullified!]
[Host has successfully calmed subject "Ilya" and therefore task has been completed.
[Talk to a girl?: 100%]
He smiled to himself and immediately closed the tab not bothering to check the remaining tasks as he knew he was nowhere near completing it.
Ilya was still quiet with her hands covering her face as the waiter finally arrived with their food.
She stood up abruptly and slapped Alfred on the face, her face contorting into a frown or rather an expression filled with disgust.
"Tch! Who the hell do you think you are? You have no right to like me! It's only natural that insects and vermin like you are unable to remember anything."
Alfred clenched his fists and bit his lower lip in anger but did his best not to show it. He wasn't sure if the perverted system would revoke the quest accomplishment if he did anything wrong.
Ilya gave him one last death stare before she left.
The waiter who held the tray of food in his hands was speechless and wondered what to do.
"Uhm…can you pack the extra food to go for me? I'll have one now."
"Ye…yes of course." The waiter hurriedly dropped the food and went his way.
Alfred was left alone staring at his food but his mind wasn't on it, for now at least. Instead his mind was on the free money he had gotten.
Apparently, due to her anger, Ilya had slapped too many bills on the table. Now, Alfred would be able to eat comfortably twice and he would still have extra cash. For the first time, he was grateful for the system.
'If the system hadn't paused the task, I would never have taken her outside. Your pervertedness actually worked for my good this time. Although I did the majority of the work, deciding to talk to her and all. Although it looks like we aren't anything special from the way she reacted when I confessed. Honestly, this is the best possible outcome.'
He paid for the meal and with an extra bag in his hands, stepped out of the restaurant a happy man.
A screen popped in front of him, and although he was startled, he wasn't too frightened as he was starting to get used to it.
[Will you be accepting the optional quest?]
[Yes/No]
"I'd totally forgotten about my exam scores and how messed up they are. Should I accept it or not?"
