Chapter 24 - Secrets of the Demons

As Kata vanished in front of Arthur's eyes, Arthur took a deep breath, calming himself down. Guessing that Kata was the one who helped Kai defeat Snake, Arthur had many questions in his mind—who is Kata? Why is this demon, who looks like an old man, helping Kai?

"Let's go. Hope you understand how I got free from Snake's skill and what happened to Snake," Kai said, looking at Arthur, giving him a hint and confirming his thoughts about Snake's fate.

"Ohh… okay," Arthur replied, following Kai as they walked side by side.

The dungeon area they were walking through stretched so far that Arthur couldn't see an end. The ground was made of hard rock and soil as they continued forward.

"So… about Kata. Is it normal for demons to help others? I mean, why is he helping you?" Arthur asked while walking, glancing at Kai.

"My father was the one who summoned Kata. After my father's death, Kata served me because of him," Kai explained.

"Summoned? So if you summon a demon, does that mean they'll work for you for free? Is that how things work in this world?" Arthur asked eagerly, curious about the mystery surrounding demons.

"Yeah, but it's the demon who decides if they'll allow you to be their master or not," Kai replied.

"But why? Why would a demon even choose to serve someone?" Arthur asked again, still not understanding why a powerful being would submit to someone else.

"You're asking too many questions. Focus on increasing your strength," Kai argued, refusing to answer.

"Well… it's just a few questions…" Arthur muttered in a low voice.

"Last question—Is Snake dead?" Arthur asked, slightly glancing at Kai, hoping for an answer.

"Yes. Snake is dead. Kata killed him," Kai confirmed.

"Ohh… okay…" Arthur muttered.

"By the way, who's stronger, Kata or you?" Arthur asked again.

Hearing Arthur's question, Kai suddenly stopped. Arthur's heartbeat rose—he knew Kai wouldn't hurt him, but he was still afraid of Kai's unpredictable behavior.

"You said that was your last question," Kai spoke in a strong voice, staring at Arthur.

"Well, it's not really a question. It's just normal conversation so we can work together, you know?" Arthur replied, slightly looking away, making an excuse.

"You think I'm an idiot? Oh, and you called me an idiot twice before this, didn't you?" Kai asked, suddenly realizing that Arthur had insulted him before.

"What?! No, that wasn't 'idiot.' I never said that! I mean, why would I call you an idiot? You don't do anything that would make me call you an idiot, right?" Arthur replied in a weak tone, lying in a funny voice.

Knowing exactly what Arthur was trying to do, Kai sighed.

"Don't try to act friendly with me," he said, rolling his eyes before starting to walk again.

Arthur followed him.

"So… how are we going to get stronger?" Arthur asked confidently, knowing that even if Kai got pissed, he wouldn't do anything to him.

Hearing Arthur's voice again, Kai stopped. Arthur's heartbeat rose once more.

"The goblin said he works for his king. That means there's a Goblin King somewhere in this dungeon. And a Goblin King means a goblin army," Kai said seriously.

"Oh… so we should keep our distance from them, right?" Arthur asked, thinking that surviving was the best way to grow stronger.

Hearing Arthur's words, Kai gave him a deadpan expression.

"We're going to kill the Goblin King. That's how we get stronger, you idiot," Kai replied, looking straight ahead as he started walking again.

"What…? Ha… I thought so," Arthur muttered, already expecting this answer from Kai.

As they continued walking, Arthur suddenly heard something.

"….."

Stopping for a moment, he focused on the sound.

"Is that… water?" Arthur asked.

"Yes," Kai replied.

Since there was no other noise in the dungeon, the sound of flowing water echoed clearly.

"We're going to drink that water, right?" Arthur asked, still walking beside Kai.

"We'll stop near the water. After resting and eating, we'll continue walking," Kai explained his plan.

"Ohhh, okay. Water and food… After fighting Snake, we do need rest," Arthur agreed, realizing that even Kai needed a break.

Suddenly, Arthur remembered something.

"Ohh…" His eyes widened as he looked at his half-severed arm.

"Kai, you used healing magic, right? So isn't there a way to get my arm back?" Arthur asked curiously.

"I only used basic healing magic. It can only heal minor and mid-level injuries. To regrow your arm, we need to find a good healer. Or, you need to evolve. After evolution, your whole body changes, and your arm will regrow," Kai explained the two possible ways for Arthur's arm to return.

"So where can we find a good healer? Because to evolve, I need to become stronger, right? And for that, I need both of my arms to fight and defend myself," Arthur asked, realizing that finding a healer was his only option for now.

"Yes… we have to find a healer," Kai confirmed.

"But where can we find one? In this dungeon?" Arthur asked.

"There are many monster villages in this dungeon. If we find one, our chances of finding a good healer will increase," Kai explained.

"What?! There are villages inside the dungeon? And monster villages?" Arthur replied, shocked to learn that settlements existed in such a dangerous place.

"Yes, there are…" Kai muttered.

As they kept walking, Arthur's eyes caught sight of a small stream of water flowing along the ground, dividing the path they were walking on from the ground on the other side.

"Oh… water," Arthur whispered. Seeing fresh water in this place made him feel like he had just discovered something invaluable—something he had never truly appreciated before.

After walking a bit further, Arthur and Kai stopped near the stream. The water was shallow and narrow, small enough for a human to jump over easily. Standing at the edge, Arthur looked down—the water was so clear that he could see its depth.

"We can drink this, right?" Arthur asked.

"Yes," Kai confirmed.

"After drinking, go and hunt something for dinner," Kai ordered as he stood at the edge and began drinking the water.
