Chapter 10 - The Council of Races

Realizing that the war would require more than just dragon unity, Erlan sought to mend ties with the world's other races. He proposed a summit—the first of its kind—to form an alliance against the Betrayer. Despite his good intentions, Erlan faced skepticism and hostility from the invitees, especially the elves and dwarves.

To ensure the summit's success, Erlan tasked Nixara and Zephyros with mediating with the leaders of each faction. Their efforts bore mixed results. While the humans and some smaller factions showed willingness to negotiate, the elves and dwarves remained stubborn. The summit, held in the neutral plains of Ardentis, began with heated debates and accusations.

A breakthrough came when Erlan revealed the Heart of Eternity's purpose. Demonstrating its power, he shattered a shard of corrupted dragonstone, purifying it completely. This display swayed the elves, who had always revered balance in the natural world. The dwarves, however, demanded tangible proof of Erlan's trustworthiness.

Erlan provided a bold proposal: "If my strength alone isn't proof enough, then challenge me in battle. Let us settle this with honor."

The dwarven king, Rurik Ironflame, accepted, and their duel became the summit's turning point. Erlan, wielding restrained power, showcased his mastery without destroying the dwarven honor. Impressed, Rurik declared the dwarves would join the alliance.

With the Council of Races officially formed, Erlan united the dragons, humans, elves, dwarves, and smaller factions against the Betrayer. Their collective might, though impressive, would be tested soon.
