Chapter 1 - Control and Contracts

*Click* *Clack*

The sound of heels clicking could be heard in the void. Which was a moot point, being that nobody apart from a very short list of beings could even exist in the void. It just so happened there was someone there who heard her approach.

A small, adorable, fluffy girl less than a meter tall sat up, putting away a picture book she was reading with her large, fluffy tails. Her fox ears twitching in excitement as she saw the woman approach.

"Big Sister Lilith! Welcome back!" The little one greeted with excitement.

Her smile warmed the older woman's heart, prompting her to scoop the smaller Kitsune up with her many tails.

Cradling the little one in her black hole colored tails, Lilith sat down on a comfortable chair she conjured from nothingness and placed the girl on her lap.

"Tearwyn, my curious little Kit~. Haven't you already learned to read?" Lilith chided lightly.

Tearwyn gave her an adorable pout and shook her head before declaring, "I did! But the pictures are cooler!"

Lilith stifled a laugh and pet the top of her head affectionately.

"Well I can hardly argue against such enthusiasm~. Are you ready for today's lesson? Today, we go over the Nexus world and Fateweavers." Lilith said, extra softly for Tearwyn, who made herself comfortable and nodded.

"You told me. The Nexus world was unreachable by everyone. And the Fateweavers are the weakest yet strongest beings there are." Tearwyn recited eagerly.

"Ah yes. But there's more. What happens, say when a Fateweaver dies? What becomes of their soul? This, is what I will be teaching today, my little Kit~." Lilith explained, grasping Tearwyn's attention easily.

And thus, she began to explain.

"The Fateweavers, as you know, create the many universes that are part of the True Omniverse. Their thoughts and ideas, through various means, give life to these worlds. But they are mortals still, with mortal souls.

These souls, even after leaving the Nexus world, are not easy to take. Most Gods and Goddesses take the souls from the proxy Earths that surround the Nexus Earth. Due to them being far easier to take from and them being so numerous. They take them and make them their willing pawns in their war in exchange for power, a better life and better appearance.

Some Gods and Goddesses, however, are not content with those normal souls. The souls of Fateweavers are a far more tantalizing prize for them. They have lost the ability to create universes, but their soul's quality is far better than the others. Their souls are most commonly graded and called 'Golden Souls'.

They may have lost their ability to create, but their quality and immunity to Fate makes them extremely precious. Which is why some Gods and Goddesses seek to catch them. Only, it's almost impossible.

They have, unwittingly created impenetrable fortresses for themselves. Universes for their afterlifes, such as Heaven, were created for them and backed by millions of believers. Some simply reincarnate as random things on the other Earths. Some even consign their souls to eternal rest in a universe where nothing can exist but them. It would be suicidal to risk grabbing any souls that go to these places.

But some, do not go to these places. Some, end up in a place that both does and does not exist. The Fateweavers who have no beliefs, not in reincarnation, not in Heaven, not even in Atheism. They either wander as disembodied spirits on the Nexus world or go to this place of ambiguity, often called 'The Noosphere'. Existing in a state of slumber. But even here, it's not easy to take these Golden Souls.

They are powerful. Able to reject a God and Goddess' authority and even inflict sometimes lethal damage onto one. But it is technically possible to try and appeal to one and get them to willingly work for a God or Goddess.

But even if that was all achieved, if they placed that Golden Soul in a powerful body, they run the risk of being slaughtered by that Golden Soul when they reach a high enough power. And thus doing so, is not very popular."

The explanation made Tearwyn slowly nod her head.

"So, only someone crazy would even try?" Tearwyn asked.

"Yes. That is, if they're brave enough to risk mortal injury and either stupid enough to take in their possible future replacement or.." Lilith trailed off, a hint of amusement in her heterochromatic eyes.

"They can control them."

-The Noosphere-

"There's more than I thought.." A Goddess murmered quietly, floating through the colorless blur that was the Noosphere.

It was practically a minefield. The golden orbs scattered around were souls. Some brighter than others. She stayed away from the bright, unstable and larger ones. Too much of a risk to try and coax them. She wandered for what seemed like years, until spotting the perfect one.

The golden orb sat there, not too bright, not too large and it was uncanny how calm it was. No signs of activity from it, other than its glow. She approached, cautiously. As non-threatening as she could possibly be.

Then, as if sensing her presence, it stirred into lucidity.

"Who..?" An indistinct voice in her head called out, its intent clear.

"I, am Maeve. A Goddess." She replied, neither too servile nor too rude. She had no idea about this soul's character after all.

Its spherical body undulated and glowed a little brighter at the revelation.

"Goddess..?" It 'looked' at her, despite having no eyes.

She was a beautiful woman of an average height of 162 centimeters (5'4 in freedom units), an hourglass figure, long black hair, golden ringed irises in a long split red dress. She did indeed look like a Goddess. The golden orb seemed to be in awe for a few moments.

"You're beautiful." The words were genuine, and though she knew and was used to them, she inwardly decided this was going to be the one.

Her most loyal servant.

"I thank you. I have come, to give you a second chance. Would you like to live another life, under my service?" She asked, she had to be up front. Else the Golden Soul could eventually wriggle its way out of her influence over time.

The soul thought to itself, considering her words. A desire- no, a near obsession they long held during their life had resurfaced in the face of her question. A desire to be wanted by others. To be needed, to belong, to be loved.

It seemed the perfect chance. But there was a doubt.

"...Why me?" It asked.

"Why not you? You're exactly what I need. I need your help. My territory, my Kingdom is being besieged by others. Your soul is strong. I can give you another life. Strength beyond compare. If, you agree to serve under me." She had to be very careful with how she phrased it.

There was no 'help fight by my side', nor could there be any lies spoken in the agreement. But she was good at appraising souls. This was one without much pride. One who practically radiated longing. She knew this was the one.

And she was right.

"Help..? You need.. my help? A Goddess needs me?" It asked, to nobody in particular.

It thought its chances were over. The place it slumbered in was a quiet, sparsely populated place where there was nothing to do but sleep and talk to the very rare other active souls. After a while of wandering, of being conscious, all one can do to stave off madness, was sleep.

But now? Now there was hope.

"I agree. But how can-" The Goddess smiled extremely wide, catching the soul in her hands with an insane laugh.

"I have one... I finally have one..!!" She whispered, silencing the soul with her authority.

She was the Dark Goddess of Control. Her powers of control varied, depending on the method employed. The most ironclad control always came from the contracts she made. An agreement based on the truth was all she needed to ensnare most under her will. It was a lot of work, pushing her authority to such a level. But to get a servant of extremely high quality, it was well worth it.

Maeve quickly exited the Noosphere, carrying the Golden Soul along with her, back into her territory. Once there, she sat in her realm, high above the planet she conquered. One full of mages and warlocks.

The soul, realizing its freedom had been suppressed, lost the hope it previously had. It was apparent by Maeve's reaction that it had fallen under her trap.

Maeve, still smiling, got to work. Many worlds flashed through her mind. Many possible host bodies to utilize. She wanted the best of the best, of course. No need to worry about it getting too strong either.

She was as giddy as a kid in a candy store as she sat in her throne, overlooking the world below, while her mind rapidly referenced the powerful characters across the Omniverse.

Then she stopped.

"Mmm... No. If I used the extremely powerful ones, somebody will definitely know I have a Golden Soul. I can't have that attention on me yet.." Maeve clicked her tongue, pushing down her previous excitement, now with a clear head.

"Then.. Someone with incredible potential with a decent power base." Mave focused, narrowing her search paramenters while the soul quietly hoped the body wouldn't be some monstrousity.

Maeve came upon a world, smirking to herself. Several characters had the potential to stomp the highest tiers, when given enough time.

"Medaka Box.. Yes. Suits my aesthetic tastes too. Plenty of powerful abilities.. But there's one who fits the bill perfectly." Maeve smiled and opened a rift next to her.

A newborn infant was quickly pulled through it, held up in Maeve's right hand as she appraised it.

"Good. Soul's useless though." She muttered before cruelly tearing the young soul from its body and tossing it to one of the servants waiting on her within the room.

"Dispose of it or use it. I don't care." Maeve ordered before snapping her fingers and calling a plain white masked servant in all black robes.

"Take this infant body to the time chamber. Feed and stimulate its muscle growth." Maeve ordered once more, handing the infant body over as if it were a doll.

The soul nearly shrank in on itself, witnessing this Goddess so casually and cruelly kill a baby. As if it were some sort of annoyance.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the servant returned, carrying with him a beautiful girl with long blue hair, red eyes and well proportioned body. A rather ideal body for any woman.

In any other circumstance, the soul may have marveled at the beauty. But after a quick inspection from the Goddess, she pulled the Golden Soul into her hand and firmly pressed it into the chest of the body. The soul felt itself being submerged before its consciousness took over the previously soulless body.

She wanted to move, to talk, to ask why she had done this, but she was just as powerless as before. The only thing she could do was breathe and blink. While she was struggling with her total lack of freedom, Maeve sat in her throne and carefully inspected her newest servant.

"Mm... The forms are inaccessible. The lack of free will then? Oh well. Her main powers are intact. Advanced Growth rate ensures she learns, recalls, understands and masters any skill by seeing it once. Superhuman Physiology.. I can improve by implementing the growth rate. Can't have you perpetually at the superhuman level, can I? Body Supremacy, not bad. Good thing I control your soul or that might have gone poorly. Then there's Alpha Presence and Combat Mastery. And, of course, your strongest ability yet. Only a soul strong enough can use.. The End. The ability to copy and use other abilities upon seeing them, at 120 percent of their capability." Maeve listed off her body's absurd abilities, truly shocking her with the last one.

She wouldn't hesitate to call her powers 'Hacks' at this point. If only she could freely utilize them.

"Prepare some tests and durable clothing. My servant shouldn't fight completely naked on my behalf." Maeve ordered.

The soul, now Medaka, watched as the other masked servants led her to a testing ground, while dressing her in what looked to be a strait-jacket. Whatever she expected to be tested by, it was far from what she got. Several anime protagonists gathered in the middle of a stone arena, all aiming their weapons at her as she walked through the metal gate the servants showed her through.

She recognized a few of them. Ranma, in her female form. Gon, from HunterxHunter. A kid Naruto. A Kirito from Sword Art Online and a little blue slime ball she assumed was Rimuru.

If that wasn't strange enough, she saw a strange presence of light within them. Like a ghostly presence aiding them.

She didn't have time to really think about how and why they were there, as she had begun to move involuntarily. To call it a battle would be a lie. Ranma's martial arts were copied, used to snap her neck after the tenth exchange. Gon's abilities were copied and used in combination with Ranma's techniques to withstand blows from Kirito. She killed Gon with his own Nen technique, Rock. Naruto, spamming shadow clones was copied, along with his taijutsu before Medaka's fist plunged through his ribcage. Then, Rimuru tried to use absorb and dissolve, only to have Medaka copy that, devour him and his ability to use magic. Kirito tried to run, even pleading with the light entity within him to save him.

Medaka crushed his head and stood there, her job finished.

But inwardly, she felt cold. She had just been used to butcher five people.

'Why...? I should have known.. I should have known this would happen!!' Medaka inwardly lamented, following the given order to return to Maeve.

Little did she know, this was only the beginning. Medaka was quickly deployed to worlds Maeve desired to subjugate. Killing the population, the agents of other Gods and destroying whatever came her way.

Maeve started her off on the weaker worlds before gradually escalating the difficulty. Medaka was often sent as a one woman army against worlds used as fortresses by Maeve's rival Gods. She never failed, even as the years went by, when she wished for a strong enough enemy to kill her. But freedom became so distant as the years went on and on.

She had fought for so long that her mind began to slip in and out of consciousness, acting autonomously and only reawakening when enough pain was inflicted on her.

Time, to Gods, is irrelevant. Their perspective of it so vastly different than a human's, that a billion years could seem so short to them.

Maeve had expanded her territory and influence over the course of a few billion years. The number one contributer to her success was her ever present servant of slaughter, Medaka. She would send her servant to go clear a couple worlds for her forces, wait a few hundred years and reap the benefits before sending Medaka out once again.

Truthfully, she hadn't needed to wait that long, as with Medaka's effeciency, she could eradicate a medium tier world in under a month. This caused her to simply stand in place, waiting to be called once more.

It was during this period of time, when a curious little fox Goddess had discovered her.

So close to her own territory too. Tearwyn walked out of a rift, with a corrupt Salem and Raven dutifully standing by. The servant women were from a Remnant her sister, Artoria had conquered.

"Goddess Tearwyn, it seems this world has already been subjugated." Salem commented as she stood in front.

"Well I could have guessed that much!" Tearwyn exclaimed before locking onto the lone Medaka standing in the middle of a crater.

Several skeletons were scattered around her, all belonging to heroes. Bakugou's, Endeavor's, Deku's and many more. Medaka only seemed to react once the trio got close enough.

"What kind of twisted God needs this much control over their underlings?" Tearwyn sighed, more so in disappointment as Raven and Salem prepared for battle.

Medaka may not have had the Authority to kill a Goddess, but the feeling they got from her radiated extreme danger. It wasn't until they all heard someone snap, did the feeling fade away.

*SNAP~*

Medaka stopped mid-step and fell to the ground, like a puppet with its strings cut.

"Sorry, little Kit~ But this one is more dangerous than you think. The audacity of that Goddess. To put something so dangerous inside a mortal. This could prove to be very entertaining.." Lilith spoke into Tearwyn's head, though she was still quite far away.

Tearwyn hummed, taking an interest in what her Mother was alluding to. Originally, she was just going to have Salem and Raven kill her. But with how her wise Mother personally intervened, she took a real interest in the girl in front of her.

"Raven? Salem? Bring her along, please. I think she could be fun!" Tearwyn decided, putting her hands on her hips and ordering the two.

The two corrupted servants looked at each other and complied. Raven carried Medaka on her back and, seeing there was nothing else of interest in that barren world, they left.

This, was the beginning of Medaka's long awaited freedom. And how she finally gained a place to belong to.
