On January 8th, 2025, McIntyre will compete for his first professional title—the vacant IBF Youth Super Middleweight Championship—against the tough and experienced Abdulselam Saman (8-1). I had the chance to sit down with McIntyre to discuss his journey, his upcoming title fight, and his ambitions for the future. Here's what he had to say:
---
1. What got you into boxing?
"I first started boxing to keep myself in line and to not get into trouble at school. Soon, it became a passion, and I fell in love with the sport."
---
2. How did it feel to win your first fight?
"Winning my first fight was the best feeling in the world. I couldn't replace it. After trying out multiple different sports, I finally found something I was good at and enjoyed."
---
3. What's next for you after this fight?
"After I win my next fight, I believe it will put me on the map, and I'll be known around the world. Then I'll fight for more straps, and as my name gets bigger, so will the big money fights."
---
4. If you could headline anywhere in the world, where would it be?
"My dream would be to headline a show in Vegas or Saudi Arabia."
---
5. How do you stay motivated?
"I stay motivated because I don't want to let the people around me down. I have to keep pushing myself and getting better. I've got a very good support team, and a lot of people are now watching me. I wouldn't want them to see me quit."
---
6. What sacrifices have you made to keep boxing?
"I've made sacrifices when it comes to friendships and relationships. I knew I needed to be in my own environment because I'm on a different path from a lot of people."
---
7. How does it feel to compete in a division with stars like Canelo Alvarez, Caleb Plant, and Edgar Berlanga?
"It feels good to be in a popular division. I'm definitely excited to see what I fill out to as I take over super middleweight, light heavyweight, and maybe some massive fights in those heavier divisions too."
---
8. How do you see yourself winning your next fight?
"I believe I'll beat my opponent by boxing and picking my shots. I think he'll put himself in harm's way, and I'll capitalize on it."
