The agency bristled with workers, and behind her boss, Poppy followed, trying to get words, at him.
"Mr. Blanco, I can't go today, my parents are at the airport, and I need to pick them up myself," she tried explaining.
Mr. Blanco, short, bald, and chubby-looking, didn't stop to look at her. He said, "Your parents can take the cab home, Poppy."
"But I have to pick them up. I-I haven't seen them in like two years now and—"
"And what?" He finally looked at her. "Do you understand who you are working for? It's Wyatt, Mr. Wyatt's daughter. And you, my dear, cannot afford to be incompetent."
"It's just a day!" Poppy groaned under her breath. "Gosh, it's just a day. I have been diligently taking care of his daughter, I haven't failed, not even once, and today, just today, I need a day off. I need to pick my parents myself, please!"
