Vesh had come to an understanding of how the Ki functioned within those warriors and had ultimately made the decision to depart from the Puente Hills. He noticed a pair of eyes intensely fixated on his every move. It was Aldo Quasti's daughter who was still gazing at him with unwavering attention. Vesh recognized that he had the opportunity to provide one final act of assistance to this Quasti family before he embarked on his own journey along a path that was uniquely his own.
Vesh took other things from the dead bodies of the soldiers like the uniforms of the enemy and used them as the disguise. He also took a few good swords and blades with him. Other weapons, he bundled them together using the fabric from the uniform and then those got onto his back using one hand to support and carry it, later he hid them by a tree.
He wore the uniform of his foe's and through good fortune took possession of Kael's soul and then by using his mental powers he imprisoned that soul within his body and tormented it.
Consumed with sheer terror, Kael realized that he could say nothing except tell Vesh whatever it was he wanted him to say amazed at what there was behind this teen boy facade.
Vesh questioned him. Scared, Kael answered everything that came into Vesh's questionings. He described how the Ki warriors were forced to wage this war. Vesh's interest peaked as Kael described the neighboring kingdom.
Up to now, the conflict was evenly spread however extra Ki warriors and soldiers soon materialized once an alliance occurred between the neighboring kingdom and the Veymor family this time. Indeed, it was because of their location which was on the left-hand side and was in direct proximity to the boundaries established by the Quasti family, that it was these particular family members belonging to Veymor who had consistently passed on valuable intelligence and provided additional support throughout the passage of time.
Darkness covered the future of the Quasti family, due to the Veymor family defecting to the neighboring kingdom. Vesh listened attentively to Kael's words. Even if he was going to intervene, the prospects for the future of the Quasti family did not shine bright. He decided to go undercover and watch the war from the point of view of the enemy by sneaking into their ranks. Kael guided him and helped in communicating with troops through his soul.
Vesh saw the rear triumph in the siege as the walls of the fortress broke. The enemies rushed through it and Aldo Quasti and his cavalry counter-attacked them. As minutes went by, more dead bodies were added to the pile. Vesh disguised as an enemy soldier joined the ranks at the back. He watched the wild fighting and the Ki warriors going into intense duels. Eldrin fought on the front lines while he himself being wounded but still holding on with determination.
Vesh got a chance to strike against Eldrin's opponent. A Ki warrior, who was about to deliver a final blow. Seizing the moment, Vesh came up from the rear and attacked the Ki warrior with his sword. With no knowledge of his savior's identity Eldrin killed his opponent with a last desperate slash.
In the meantime, Aldo found himself facing off against two formidable opponents. Arthan, the leader of the enemy forces who posed a significant threat and another skilled Ki warrior who was equally challenging.
Concurrently, Zale was engaged in a fierce battle with Theron. The moment the enemy warriors noticed that one of their own had been taken down and was no longer in the fight. One of them quickly began sprinting towards Eldrin with the intent to kill, while at the same time enemy troops began to encircle Vesh creating a tense situation.
Eldrin badly hurt and almost out of strength sacrificed himself using his life force in a final attempt to defeat his opponent. In the heat of battle, both fighters tumbled to the ground. Their bodies now lifeless and motionless.
On the other hand, Vesh was surrounded by more than ten enemy soldiers, all of whom were heavily armed with threatening spears and sharp swords but he did not flinch. Vesh channeled his void energy into the tip of his blade making it into a deadly weapon. Though injured and bearing the marks of many cuts along with grazes from arrows that had hit him, he continued to fight and killed them with his void energy.
Vesh sought out the bald doctor and found a grim scene. The doctor and his disciple laid dead. The enemy soldiers surrounded them. They had been overwhelmed despite their best efforts. Vesh checked their bodies and said, "If only you had wielded Ki or mana, your souls might have been put to use by me."
The battle continued. Briefly distracted elsewhere, Aldo was pushed back by Arthan. Desperate, Aldo dashed to Theron who was battling Zale in another corner. Theron parried Aldo's attack but Zale took his Theron's life from behind. Aldo's focus turned on Arthan and pointed Zale to defend the soldiers not him.
With Zale on the side of the mortal soldiers, the tide of battle began shifting to their side. Vesh entered the doctor's room and spent the rest of the medicine healing his wounds. He discovered the doctor's notes by searching the room in a jar similar to the one the poison was in. He stuffed the notes into his uniform and sighed that he was late to save the doctor. "Perhaps his soul could've been useful." Vesh thought.
Vesh didn't bother saving Eldrin, who had spent all the remaining life force in ending the battle. With his spirit gone, Vesh concentrated on the next move. Collecting the doctor's notes, Vesh walked away from the battlefield wearing the enemy's uniform. Arthan knowing that the tide of the battle had changed called in a for a retreat of his forces.
Vesh disappeared into the shadows, his thoughts reflected and turned into determination. He knew very well that the war had furnished him with a tremendous amount of knowledge and a plenty of resources that he could put to good use to set himself on the right path toward his goals. At the same time, Vesh realized this was a new journey he was embarking on by becoming a Ki warrior and using the soul of other's which constituted as tools he intended to employ in his quest for his new strength.
