Chapter 7 - 2nd monster hunting

Leonardo's Journey into the Crystal

That night, Leonardo couldn't sleep. The events of the previous day swirled in his mind like an unrelenting storm. The leather pouch's strange disappearance, the treasure it had held, and most of all, the crystal. It now rested on a wooden shelf near his bed, seemingly inert but radiating an eerie presence. Leonardo glanced at it occasionally, feeling both drawn to and wary of its otherworldly aura.

As the moon climbed higher into the sky, a faint glow began to emanate from the crystal. At first, Leonardo thought it was a trick of the light. But as the glow grew stronger, he sat up in bed, his heart pounding. The room filled with soft, silvery light, casting dancing shadows on the walls.

He approached the crystal cautiously, its light now pulsating rhythmically, almost like a heartbeat. "What is this thing?" he whispered, reaching out to touch it.

The moment his fingers grazed the surface, a powerful force yanked him forward. Leonardo felt his body dissolve into the light, a sensation both terrifying and exhilarating. The world around him twisted and spun, and then he was falling—falling through endless brightness.

When he landed, it was on a hard, rocky surface. The light faded, revealing a barren, desolate landscape under a blood-red sky. Jagged cliffs loomed in the distance, and an oppressive heat pressed down on him. This was no ordinary forest—it was another world entirely.

The Challenge of Level 2

A deep, guttural growl snapped Leonardo out of his daze. He turned to see a monstrous creature emerge from behind a boulder. It was unlike anything he had ever seen—towering at least ten feet tall, its body was covered in spiked armor, and its glowing yellow eyes were fixed on him with murderous intent. Its tail, lined with razor-sharp blades, whipped menacingly through the air.

Instinctively, Leonardo reached for the dagger he had found in the pouch. It felt warm in his hand, as though it recognized him. The crest on the blade glowed faintly, pulsing in rhythm with the crystal's light.

The monster charged. Leonardo's newly enhanced reflexes kicked in, and he dodged to the side just as the creature's tail slammed into the ground where he had stood moments before. The impact sent rocks flying, one of which grazed his cheek.

Leonardo gritted his teeth, gripping the dagger tightly. The weapon felt like an extension of his arm, its weight perfect, its balance impeccable. As the monster lunged again, he ducked low and slashed at its exposed underbelly. The blade cut through its armor-like hide effortlessly, eliciting a deafening roar of pain.

But the creature wasn't defeated. It spun around with surprising speed, its tail catching Leonardo off guard and sending him sprawling to the ground. The impact knocked the wind out of him, and for a moment, he lay stunned. The monster advanced, its massive claws poised to strike.

"Move, Leonardo!" he screamed at himself, rolling out of the way just in time. The claws missed him by inches, carving deep gashes into the rocky ground.

The Power of the Crystal

As he scrambled to his feet, the crystal in his pocket began to glow, much like it had in his room. A voice—calm and commanding—echoed in his mind.

"Use your surroundings. Trust your instincts."

Leonardo's eyes darted around, searching for anything he could use. His gaze landed on a jagged rock formation above the monster. An idea formed. He sprinted toward the cliff, the monster hot on his heels.

With the creature closing in, Leonardo reached the base of the cliff and began to climb. The jagged rocks cut into his hands, but he didn't stop. The monster roared in frustration, swiping at him with its claws. One strike grazed his leg, drawing blood, but Leonardo pushed through the pain.

Reaching a precarious ledge, he turned to face the creature. It was directly below him, glaring up with rage. Leonardo hefted the glowing crystal in his hand, an idea forming in his mind.

"If this thing brought me here, maybe it can help me finish this," he muttered. Holding the crystal aloft, he focused all his will on it.

The crystal's glow intensified, its light searingly bright. The monster hesitated, as if sensing the danger. Then, with a deafening roar, Leonardo hurled the crystal at the creature. The moment it made contact, a blinding explosion of light engulfed the area.

Victory and Revelation

When the light faded, Leonardo found himself lying on the ground, the air thick with the smell of scorched earth. The monster was gone, reduced to a pile of ash. The crystal had returned to his pocket, its glow now faint but steady.

Leonardo staggered to his feet, his body aching but his spirit triumphant. He looked at the dagger in his hand, its crest now glowing more brightly than ever.

"Level 2 complete. Reward: Enhanced Strength. Slayer Path progressing."

The voice echoed in his mind once more, filling him with a mix of pride and dread. He had survived, but this was only the beginning.

As the landscape around him began to blur, Leonardo realized he was being pulled back to his world. The blood-red sky and jagged cliffs dissolved into light, and he felt himself falling again.

Back Home

Leonardo woke up in his bed, drenched in sweat. The crystal sat on the shelf, its glow faint but constant. He glanced at the dagger on his bedside table, its crest now fully illuminated.

He touched his pocket, feeling the reassuring weight of the crystal. The experience had been real—there was no denying it. The rewards he had earned, the battle he had fought, the monster he had slain—it was all real.

But questions lingered. What was the purpose of the Slayer Path? Why was he chosen? And most importantly, what awaited him at Level 3?

Leonardo clenched his fists, determination coursing through him. Whatever the answers were, he knew one thing: he couldn't turn back now. The path was set, and he would follow it, no matter where it led.
