Chapter 33 - Beast's Entrapment

The wings of the plane fluttered through the wind, both engines shaking slightly from the passing currents each fan whirled rhythmically. Priscilla watched a movie, this time she and Lucia had booked separate seats, purely out of Lucia's wishes. The snack trolley swung around periodically over the duration of the flight, however, not once had Lucia stopped it and purchased their entire stock.

'Can you please stop being so sulky?' Priscilla cocked her head to the side toward Lucia's seat.

Her sorrow-filled eyes peeked from around the plastic door. 'You wouldn't understand.'

'Then let me understand!' She swung the sliding door open to face the grand witch face to face.

'Its...I can't..'

Priscilla shook her head furiously. 'You can't or you don't want?'

'I promise you that I can't. If I do, everything I have built will come crumbling down....' Lucia cupped her hands together. 'I am older than most countries Priscilla. I have seen the downfall of empires and the corruption of those around me. I NEED you to become stronger than Mika, I am willing to put everything on the line for that.'

Lucia repositioned herself in the cushy airline seat. 'She has the twelve-seal artefact, it is among the 12 zodiac weapons, and it happens to be among the strongest ones. From the looks of your scissors, it seems to be the seventh artefact, cancer's claws.'

'You expect me to fight her? Just removing a strip of paper from her body caused such a surge in power and you think I can take her down?? That much magical power rivals the aura I felt from the Vaundrs!' Priscilla sat back down in her seat, wondering how exactly it would be possible to accomplish Lucia's ridiculous request. A surprise attack always works better than a frontal assault, but that only works if the target has some kind of weakness that can be exploited.

Sors peaked his little bladed tips through her back, floating by her side and attempting to whisper ideas toward Priscilla. 'It's true that the girl is in possession of the sealing artefact. But every tool was designed to counter each other in some kind of way. There are twelve of us, but I was designed as a safety measure to ensure none of the others go rogue.'

'Interesting...so like, this is a game of rock paper scissors?'

'Correct, but I can beat even the rock in some scenarios. Some flimsy little seals can't stop me. I will explain the true power of the seals another time but understand that we have the upper hand in a game of attrition. My power draws from your magical prowess, the stronger you are, the more I can cut.'

Priscilla stared strangely at the little red scissors. 'So what do the seals use for their power?'

'That's the fun part, every other artefact doesn't have a source for their power. You and I are bound by blood but they are only connected by being in each other's possession. I am by your side until you perish, and to be honest, I have grown a little fond of you so don't go dying on me!'

Little Priscilla whipped her head around toward Lucia who was still wallowing in a barely functioning state of sanity. 'I promise to outgrow Mika, so please act like normal alright?'

Lucia turned her head over to face the little girl's listening red eyes. 'I trust you, just give me some time. Everything will be back to normal once we land, rest now so we can explore Paris a little bit.' She turned her body over in the seat and covered herself in a thick blanket.

'Alright then...' Priscilla followed suit and turned back into her window seat, the daylight fading from the day as the plane cruised through the twilight-stricken sky.

'The Eiffel Tower huh? It looks a bit smaller than I imagined.' Priscilla flashed a couple of pictures and followed the busy Lucia. The smell of yeast wafted through the air as they passed by the many restaurants littered around each street. The stench of cigarettes burned holes through Priscilla's nose as they passed dimly lit alleys and puddles of murky liquid drenched her shoes.

'Could we stop by a restaurant? I am a bit hungry.' Lucia turned her head back at Priscilla. 'Sure, it's not me as usual.' A small Italian restaurant lay just up ahead among the hundreds of small cafes that remained bustling with customers despite the time of day.

'Funny you chose this restaurant despite being in France. Do you not like their cuisine Lucia?'

'Not at all. The last thing I want to eat before heading into the catacombs is a couple of snails. A hearty bowl of pasts is much more enticing, don't you think?' Priscilla scrunched her nose at the thought of guzzling down several snails.

'I see your point. I will take a bowl of carbonara then.' The waiter scribbled away on his little notepad before retreating away behind many flowered tables.

'And what exactly are we doing in the catacombs? I can't imagine it's related to stealing goodies.'

Lucia laughed to herself lightly before wiping away a fake tear.

'These catacombs have been around for far too long for them not to be looted completely. No, we are in search of something much more important.'

'What is it?'

'The chaos dragon, Nidhogg.'
