Chapter 4 - Eyes of Mystery

When Mr. Abram entered the classroom with a student behind him, the laughter that once filled the atmosphere was now completely quiet. All attention was on the girl he brought inside the class.

"So, I will introduce you to a new student," he began. "Girl, introduce yourself," he encouraged gently, giving her the stage.

Alena stood straight, her voice barely above a whisper. "Hi, I'm Alena," she said, her eyes fixed on the floor, her heart pounding in her chest. "I'm looking forward to this class."

As she spoke, she felt a strange sensation, like someone was watching her intently. She glanced up and her eyes met his. He was sitting at the back of the room, leaning casually against his chair. His dark hair was slightly messy, and his eyes were a piercing shade of green that seemed to see right through her.

He leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips, his eyes never leaving hers. Alena felt her heart race as she took in his strong jawline and the hint of a smirk on his lips.

For a moment, she was completely lost in his gaze, the rest of the room fading away. She could feel the intensity of his stare, and it made her both nervous and intrigued. She quickly looked away, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.

Throughout the class, she couldn't help but steal glances at him. He seemed so different from anyone she had ever met, and she wondered what kind of person he was. There was something about him that drew her in, despite the warning bells going off in her head.

"I need to concentrate," she whispered to herself, trying to focus on the lesson.

Just then, she felt a tap on her shoulder. "Hello!" she heard a familiar voice call out. It was Lexy.

"Yeah, it's nobody else but Lexy," she muttered, turning to his direction. Lexy took her to the café where they bought snacks. At first, she hesitated, complaining that it was too much and too expensive. She mentioned that the school provided free food, so there was no need to buy more. However, he was adamant, and she eventually gave in.

They sat down in a less crowded place as he unwrapped the goodies. She noticed people staring at them, especially at her, giving her uncomfortable looks.

"Why are they staring at us, Lex?" she asked, feeling uneasy.

Lexy's attention drifted from unwrapping the biscuit to see what the problem was. "Don't stare at them. Forget them. They are surprised that we are friends, you know," he partially lied.

"It's not bad being a friend," she thought, since she did not see anything wrong with being his friend.

"Here," he said, bringing the biscuit close to her mouth, but she declined, telling him she could feed herself. She also mentioned that the passersby might be hungry to feed their eyes. She never liked being the center of attention.

"Thank you," she said, grabbing the biscuit from his hand and starting to eat. After some time, they resumed back to class. Alena could still feel the gaze of the boy from earlier, but she tried not to stare back, focusing her attention on what the lecturer was saying. With Lex by her side, she felt more comfortable.

Time went by, and as the lecturer was about to close his class, he turned back and said his last words: "Please ensure to study histology, especially the types of tissues in the body. You can't tell if that is where your marks will come from," he laughed softly and walked out.

As the class ended, Alena gathered her things, her mind still reeling from the encounter. She knew she should stay away from someone like him, but a part of her couldn't help but be curious. Who was this dangerous boy, and why did he have such a powerful effect on her?

Alena hurried to meet Lexy, recalling that she had let him leave first as she wanted to do a few things. Suddenly, a tall girl with a great physique stood in front of her. The difference between them was that the girl was taller, but Alena was cuter.

"Hello, I'm Emma," the girl said, stretching out her hand for a shake, a beautiful welcoming smile blooming on her face.

"I'm Alena," Alena responded, taking her hand.

Emma was an impatient person who believed in not wasting time. "I want us to be friends," she said, getting straight to the point. "So, what do you think?"

Alena was taken aback by her straightforwardness but slowly answered, "Okay… no problem."

"Good," Emma said, quickly pulling her into a hug before leaving.

Alena was astonished and speechless by what had just happened. "I need to go… Lexy's been waiting for me," she muttered, running out of the class. When her eyes fell on a pair of blue ocean eyes, she ran to him, breathing heavily.

"I'm sorry I kept you waiting, Lex," she said, trying to catch her breath.

With a concerned look, he scolded her gently, "It's okay, just don't do it again."

Lexy dropped her off at the girls' dormitory, and after seeing her off, he drove away. Alena lay on her bed, thinking about the pair of green eyes that had caught her attention. Despite her efforts, she couldn't get him out of her mind.

"Maybe getting a shower will help me forget him," she said to herself as she stood up to get ready for an afternoon bath. While in the shower, the image of those green eyes, his striking features, and his jacket slung over one shoulder kept playing in her mind, this time more vividly.

"It's worse than I thought," she muttered, rubbing her hair back.

Alena was lost in her thoughts when she heard a knock on the outer door. "I'm coming," she called out, trying to put on her towel. She froze as she heard the doorknob twist.
