Chapter 1 - What's happening to me?

"Tomorrow is your wedding, if you want to save us, you have to accept it." I could never have imagined hearing those words from my family. I was never their favorite child, but it was still unthinkable for me. I will never forget that day and those words.

In the morning, before this chaos started. Mia (my best friend) and I were at the university, discussing our plans for the day after lectures.

Mia: "What are your plans today, Lily?"

Me: "We have to go back to the office after the lecture."

Mia: "Come on! You keep talking about work, isn't it our company? We work whenever we want."

Me: "I know you don't like working and you're here to support me, but if we continue like this, we won't achieve anything."

Mia: "Don't be pessimistic. Our parents are rich anyway. We can live in peace."

Me: "So what?! I want to achieve everything on my own. I didn't even use their money to start a company."

Mia: "I know, but I'm tired of all this. Look at that cute guy over there. Go meet him and maybe then you'll give me a break."

I wasn't surprised that she said something like that, because she often joked about it. Of course, she knows that she can never get rid of me. We kept walking because I wanted to fulfill all our plans and get to the office quickly.

Mia:" Where are you running to?"

Me: "I don't have time for jokes."

Mia: "I'm not joking. I know you're dating that idiot Joel, but I don't like him at all. I suggest you get rid of him soon before he causes you any problems."

I don't have time to argue with her. I want to go to the cafe soon because I'm very hungry.

A message came in on my phone. I took my phone out of my pocket and looked at it. It was from Joel. "Can we meet up?" Mia read the message and had a "That's exactly what I was saying" look on her face.

Mia: "I told you. He won't leave you for a second."

Me: "You won't leave me either."

Mia: "I'm your best friend. No, we're already sisters. I'm your older sister. You'll do whatever I tell you! Come on, let's meet him and I'll prove to you that you shouldn't have anything to do with him."

Me: "Okay, let's go."

I replied to the message immediately. I wrote where and when we should meet. There is a cozy cafe on the beach near the university that we often go to. We always spend a lot of time choosing what to eat, so when we don't want to think too much, we always come here.

The weather is nice today, a little cold on the beach because of the wind, but not so much that we froze. The waves were crashing against the shore with a loud noise. Mia and I went to a cafe with a big sign saying "Blue Summer." We opened the door and the owner greeted us, and we greeted him back. We come here so often that we are practically VIP members, and a table is even reserved for us. To tell you the truth, I love this place because it is close to the sea and almost everything in the cafe is blue.

We didn't wait for the waiter anymore and made our way to the table. A few minutes later, the waiter came and brought our order.

Waiter: "Enjoy it, it's exactly what you always order."

Mia: "Thank you."

Me: "It looks delicious. Thank you."

Mia was restless, probably because she wanted to quickly prove that she was right.

Mia: "He's here, you'll soon find out I'm right."

Me: "Or it will be the other way around."

The door opened and a tall, dark-haired boy walked in. He was wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Mia rolled her eyes, never liking the way he dressed.

Mia: "As always, he doesn't even know how to dress."

Me: "Be quiet so he doesn't hear."

Mia: "So what, I'll tell him I'm not afraid of him. I'm quiet because of you."

Me: "I know, so please be quiet."

Joel approached the table. When he saw Mia, the smile disappeared from his face, but he tried to hide it.

Joel: "Hello. Mia, I didn't know you would be here too."

Mia: "Why did I ruin your plans?"

Joel smiled awkwardly.

Me: "Mia. Remember what I told you?"

Mia: "Yes, and you forgot my answer?"

Me: "Come join us and order something."

I tried to change the subject because the atmosphere was awkward, but it didn't work.

Mia: "Joel, don't you have anything to do? Why don't you stay away from Lily?"

Joel: "What kind of question is that? Why are you being so rude to me?"

Mia: "Because I don't like you and I want you to leave my sister alone."

Me: "Stop arguing. Everyone's looking at us."

Mia: "I don't care, I want you to see his real face."

Joel got angry and stormed out. I tried to calm Mia down. Everyone was looking at us and I felt very uncomfortable. I wanted to disappear and not be seen by anyone.

Me: "I understand that you want to prove the truth, but that won't work. You treated him very badly. You embarrassed him in front of so many people."

Mia: "Why are you defending him? I want to show you that he doesn't suit you."

Me: "But not like this. Do you want to prove the truth? Then you should do something different. There's no need to humiliate him like this."

From the window I saw Joel pacing nervously. I blamed myself for putting him in such a situation. Mia is like a sister to me, but sometimes I don't understand her. She's very rude to others. I know she'll do anything to protect me, but she puts me in awkward situations, and I can't stand it.

Me: "I need to go out for a while. Maybe you two can calm down before then."

Mia: "Okay. I'm calm now."

I went to the bathroom to splash water on my face and calm down a bit. I soon returned to the table. Joel had not returned. I looked outside, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Me: "Did anything happen while I was gone?"

Mia:" Nothing."

Me: "Where is Joel?"

Mia: "I don't know, I'm not his babysitter."

Me: "Okay, I won't say anything more. I'll send him a message."

I picked up my phone and sent him a message.

Where are you? Are you gone? Sorry about Mia. She's just trying to protect me.

He immediately replied

I didn't leave. How could I leave without saying goodbye?! You shouldn't apologize for someone else. I'll be back soon.

Mia looked at me angrily.

Mia: "Is he gone?"

Me: "No, he'll be back soon."

Mia: "I can't come to you tonight. The girls wrote to me and we're going out together. You can come too if you want."

Me: "No, thanks. I have a lot to do tomorrow."

Mia: "Why, it's your wedding? Should he propose to you tonight? Will you agree?"

Me: "Yes, I will. Where else would he find a girl like me?"

Mia: "That's right. He'd be a fool to let you go. When are you going to tell your parents?"

Me: "Let him propose first, and then we'll talk."

Mia: "What's left for me to do, I wish you happiness."

We laughed a lot about it. I didn't expect Mia's mood to improve, but it didn't last long, because Joel came back.

Joel: "Lily, I think I'd better go. I'll write to you later, I have something to say to you."

Mia: "Why can't you tell him now?"

Me: "Mia! Goodbye Joel. Call me and we'll talk about it."

I said goodbye to Joel and he left. Mia and I sat for a while and talked about what we should do in the company. We've had a lot of guests lately, probably because our company planned the Hamilton party. It was a huge hit, and it was talked about almost everywhere. Since then, we've been busy planning events.

Mia: "Let's talk about it tomorrow. We've already discussed a lot today. Even though we're not in the company, we're still working."

Me: "You're not coming to meetings, and you're not leaving me any other way."

Mia: "Okay, let's go now."

Me: "So you won't come to the company today?"

Mia: "We've already discussed everything. I have to meet the girls and I need to prepare."

I didn't have time to argue with her. We paid the bill and headed back to the parking lot.

Mia: "Until tomorrow. Don't work too hard, at least get some rest."

Me: "Go back to your house early. I don't want to come to you in the morning and have to wake you up."

Mia: "I can't promise you."

Mia will never change. She prefers relaxing and having fun with friends to everything.

I said goodbye to Mia and went to the company.
