Feng Zhenyu and the other Mages were also busy fending off the intruders, diminishing their numbers in a span of minutes.
Feng Zhenyu glided effortlessly through the melee, his twin blades weaving a deadly pattern and he dealt blows against his opponents.
His expression was one of boredom, as if the fight was beneath him. The martial arts skills of the intruders were vastly outmatched by his own, a testament to his reputation as one of Jinxing's most skilled Mages.
Shaking his head in disappointment at their amateur skills, Feng Zhenyu decided to end it all.
He clashed his twin blades against each other, forming an X, and quickly muttered a spell under his breath.
The blades made a loud sizzling sound as they released an emerald glow. As Feng Zhenyu separated the blades from each other, the air seemed to ripple with energy, releasing a shockwave that knocked many of his opponents, out cold.
While the fight was going on, Mingyu cautiously snuck past them, keeping his presence hidden, and only stopping every once in a while, to watch the fight which he found to be very entertaining.
But alas, his sword was most important, so he forced himself to keep moving, in search of where his body had been kept.
Meanwhile, on one of the rooftops, two hooded men stood, watching the fight as it ensued.
"Release the signal." One of them said, and the other man nodded, immediately leaping away from the rooftop.
Seconds later, a burst of colorful fireworks exploded in the night sky, sending a clear message to the assailants below.
They immediately stopped fighting, and fled the Jinxing grounds as fast as they could, while those among them who were fatally wounded and couldn't flee, took their lives with their own hands.
The Jinxing Mages were caught off guard by the sudden display of fireworks, and so, the intruders easily slipped out of the hands.
Lin Xiaowei saw Feng Zhenyu from a distance and immediately approached him.
"Ah-Zhen, what the hell just happened?" Lin Xiaowei asked, baffled at how fast everything suddenly ended.
Feng Zhenyu looked at his friend with an equally baffled expression. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could let a word out, a Mage frantically ran towards them.
"Young masters, there's an emergency. The Training center is on fire!"
Back at the Training center, the flames had spread, consuming most parts of the building.
The servants were running helter skelter, trying to put out the flames, but their efforts were in vain. The fire had already spread beyond control, and the buckets of water they fetched did nothing to help.
"Out of the way!" A sharp voice penetrated the air, causing the frantic servants to turn their heads to see who had arrived.
Relief could be seen on the faces of the servants as the owner of the voice marched forward, towards the burning building.
Lin Xiaoyan stood before the training center, his eyes ablaze with anger as the reflection of the burning building danced across his gaze.
Raising both of his hands in the air, he muttered a spell which made his palms glow.
The many buckets of water which were on the ground began to vibrate, and the water from each bucket began to float out of the buckets and gather upwards above his palms.
The water increased greatly in mass by the second, and when it grew as large as he wanted, he extended his hand towards the building, making the water move according to his will.
The once powerful flame, that had almost consumed the building, was doused by the water in an instant.
Wen Ting and a few other Mages ran to him, and bowed their heads in respect. At the same time, Lin Xiaowei and Feng Zhenyu also reached the training center.
"Uncle, are you alright?" Lin Xiaowei asked in concern, to which Lin Xiaoyan answered with a nod.
"The intruders have fled the area. I wonder the reason for the attack." Feng Zhenyu reported.
"I think I know the reason." Lin Xiaoyan said with gritted teeth. "Mingyu's body is no longer at the Lingsi chamber. Find them!"
Lin Xiaoyan's order was met with immediate response from the Mages, who scattered about in search of the intruders, or any leadings, or tracks the intruders might have left behind.
Meanwhile, Mingyu whose body had been declared missing, was busy hiding at the Jinxing library.
Since the fight ended, he was wary of stepping out in the open, as he was sure that the Jinxing Mages would be on their guard, keeping an eye out for anyone suspicious.
Who were those guys? Mingyu wondered once more, not being able to fathom what gains the intruders had, to have invaded the powerful Jinxing sect.
A thought which caused his brows to crease suddenly crossed his mind. Could they have been sent by the Yewang?
Now that he thought about it, the reason behind the sudden attack began to make sense.
He must have sent them to retrieve my body.
Mingyu's thoughts were disrupted, when a person's silhouette in the library fell within his gaze. Alarmed, he immediately came out of hiding, to sneakily run out of the library, but in the process, he collided against a table, making a loud clattering sound as the content of the table fell to the floor.
"Who is there?" The person called out, and Mingyu quickly took to his heels, sprinting out of the library.
He ran as fast as he could, but whoever was chasing him, was equally fast. No matter how fast he ran, or the number of turns he took, he still kept hearing the sound of the person's footsteps behind him.
He kept running until he came across a dead-end alley, which had a few abandoned buildings. The sound of the person's footsteps was now a bit distant, but he could still hear it non the less.
Heaving a sigh, Mingyu turned around, preparing to face whoever it was, head on.
But as soon as he turned around, he felt a strong hand wrap around his arm, and he was suddenly yanked into one of the buildings.
Mingyu let out a surprised gasp, and he instinctively tried to free himself, to attack whoever it was, but his guard was immediately let down as he came face-to-face with Jiang Yichen.
"Y-young master?" Mingyu muttered in shock, not believing his eyes. What is he doing here?
Jiang Yichen placed his index finger against Mingyu's lips, shutting him up.
In the silence, the sound of someone's footsteps from outside could be heard.
From the sound, Mingyu could tell that the person was standing right in front of the building, he and Jiang Yichen were currently in.
Mingyu held his breath in apprehension, as they stood still, so as not to alert the person. He could only breath freely when he heard the sound of the person's receding footsteps.
"Your finger." Mingyu deadpanned as he made eye contact with Jiang Yichen.
"Oh." Jiang Yichen said with a small smile, retracting his finger from Mingyu's blood red lips. A tiny bit of red could be seen on Jiang Yichen's face, as though he were embarrassed.
"What are you doing here?" Mingyu asked the question that was bugging his mind.
"Because I love your eyes." Jiang Yichen simply said, gazing directly into Mingyu's grey eyes with a serous expression as if he were gazing into Mingyu's soul.
Mingyu was taken aback by Jiang Yichen's comment. He even had the urge to roll his eyes, but under Jiang Yichen's serious gaze, he found that he couldn't.
Why was he looking at him with such a serious, but surprisingly, tender gaze? Mingyu couldn't help looking away from Jiang Yichen's face, feeling uncomfortable.
Is he really a lunatic?
"You love my eyes?" Mingyu asked, in order to break the awkward silence.
"Yes." Jiang Yichen responded without hesitation. "The moment I saw your eyes at the brothel, I immediately knew it. You are the master I've been looking for… Mingyu."
