Chapter 1 - Veronica Hudges

I have always thought about going on an adventure, life was always so normal..... nothing different ever happened but everything was bearable as far as I was with my mum, Valeria. She was my best friend and guardian and she was going to be with me every step of my life or so I thought.

I didn't think my very normal life would turn 360 and I will be all on my own in the midst of people I don't know and be trapped in a dark web of lies and a whole lot of action. I still think of that day when the beginning of my end started...the day of the crash.

I was sitted at the back of the car while my mum drove, it was a rainy night and we were heading to Sportys to celebrate my birthday. I wore my headphones listening to my favourite song as I admired the rain through the glass window, there was something about the rain that made me feel empty and lonely so I averted my gaze back to my mum who was driving .

I saw my mum's phone ringing with the caller id 'Don' she hesitantly picked it and began to talk with the caller on the phone, I was wearing headphones so I couldn't hear her conversation with that person. As she spoke on the phone, she looked at her rearview mirror, her eyes were filled with fear and her hands holding the phone was shaking anxiously, I immediately knew something was wrong so i planned to ask her after her call.

She looked back at the road, but it felt like she wasn't seeing anything, she was in a daze and I could notice it. A car started moving towards us but my mum made no move, I called out to her "mum!" "Back to earth Valerie!" I called out loudly snapping my fingers before she finally regained her senses, at the last moment Valeria swerved to the left, into the path of an on-coming truck and collided with it.

I can remember the only thing that I could clearly see was the lights of the truck and before I knew it, the car was overturned. My vision was blurry, the only thing I could hear was the faint voice of my Mother calling out to me.

Blood was everywhere and she stopped moving, tears immediately started pouring from my eyes because I knew my worst fear had happened. The man driving the truck came to our car and looked down checking if we were dead, he brought out his phone calling a specific number, I couldn't hear what he was saying, my ears were ringing. After checking on the car, he turned his back to go back to his truck and drove away

I couldn't get out of the car because my legs were stuck, I couldn't scream for help and i couldn't breath.Soon, my breathing started to slow down and my vision was getting darker, a lady came and looked for a way to help me out of the car, I couldn't see anything but i could hear her voice, she kept asking my name.

"Veronica, my name is Veronica Hughes" I whispered in a very low tone then I remembered my mother who was still inside the car. "My mum, save her.... please get her out" I kept mumbling till I finally lost consciousness and everything went dark.
