Chapter 24
Rhydian
If I had been told by someone else that I was capable of feeling this amount of excitement, I would have never believed. This feeling was impossible to explain, my racing heart was loud enough for any vampire to hear from miles away.
I led her to a vast field behind the palace, it was a place usually used for training, several weapons were arranged just few meters away from where we stood. I looked around to make sure we were the only ones before turning to face her. And there she had that look, that look of defiance that I so much loved, even if I wouldn't admit it.
"Am I fighting against you?" She asked, raising a brow, a daring smirk plastered on her face.
"Yes, and no one is allowed to interfere and you're allowed to go all out." I replied, carefully folding up my sleeves.
"All out you say? You might want to reach for the sword behind you, because I won't hold back, incase you didn't know, I only fight to kill." She said, her frown deepening, she seemed really mad, I must have pissed her off somehow.
A smirk curled on my lips, I was actually going to see her fight all out huh, this was going to be fun.
"Don't worry little witch, I'm perfectly....." I wasn't done speaking when she lunged at me with full speed, and I could have sworn I didn't see her move when she lunged her first hit, fortunately, I was able to counter her attack just in time, but the force was enough to send me flying a few meters backwards.
"Can you at least let me finish?" I Said, almost chuckling, I couldn't control what she made me feel, I was supposed to be angry, but I actually like it a lot, infact, I loved her feisty nature.
"I would pay attention if I were you." I heard her say, and her next attack came from behind me, she was fast, but she was still avoiding using spells for a reason I didn't know why. I had to push her to the limit, maybe then she'll have no choice.
Raw strength cannot defeat the dragons, that was the main reason I needed the help of the witches, dragons are weak to magic spells, that's the main reason they never made trouble for the witches.
I inhaled and exhaled deeply, closing my eyes for a moment, but of course, she didn't let me breath and immediately lunged her next attack, she was really taking this seriously. The next moment I opened my eyes, they had turned glowing red, with my power activated, I was able to block her attack easily.
Her eyes widened for a split second when she noticed the change in mine. She realized I was getting serious.
"I warned you to go all out," I said with a grin, brushing dust off my shoulder. "If you won't use your spells, this will be over too soon."
Her response was a quick spin-kick aimed at my ribs. I dodged just in time, grabbing her ankle and twisting her off balance. She hit the ground but rolled back to her feet in an instant, her smirk returning.
"You'll regret that."
I barely had a second to react before she launched a flurry of punches and kicks. She was relentless, her movements faster and sharper with each attack. I blocked most of them, but a solid hit to my jaw sent me stumbling.
Damn, she's strong.
"Getting tired already?" she teased, circling me like a predator stalking its prey.
I wiped the blood from my lip, laughing. "Not even close."
Without warning, she finally summoned a spell. Green flames crackled in her palms, and the temperature around us spiked. I felt the magic pulse through the air—a deadly force ready to be unleashed.
"That's more like it," I said, bracing myself.
She hurled the flames at me with surprising precision. I dodged the first blast, but the second one grazed my arm, burning through my sleeve. The pain was brief because the a
Place healed almost instantly.
I surged forward, closing the distance between us in a blink. My hand wrapped around her wrist before she could cast another spell.
"Careful," I whispered, locking eyes with her, my lips curving into a smirk, "You might actually kill me."
Her lips twitched into a smile, but her eyes gleamed with determination. "That's the point."
Before I could react, her knee drove into my stomach, knocking the air out of my lungs. I released her, stumbling back, and she took full advantage of the opening, charging at me with raw power and magic crackling around her fists.
This was no ordinary fight. This was a battle for dominance, a clash between two stubborn souls refusing to back down. And I loved every second of it. But even with all the intense fight, I couldn't bring myself to fight her at full strength, I might actually hurt her in the process, and the thought of that made my stomach churn.
Her next attack which was her fist flying to my face broke off my thoughts, I blocked it just in time, but the force rattled my bones. She was holding nothing back now—exactly what I wanted.
"That's it," I said, my voice low, almost a growl. "Show me what you're really capable of."
Her magic flared, the air around us crackling with raw energy. She wasn't just a witch—she was something far more dangerous. I felt it in every spell she cast, every strike she landed, she was definitely stronger than her sister.
"Still standing?" she taunted, flames swirling at her fingertips. "I thought the vampire king was supposed to be stronger than this."
I smirked, my heart racing even faster in excitement, why did I like this, this situation we were in, it made my blood bubble with excitement I couldn't explain, "You'll have to do better than that to bring me down."
Her eyes narrowed, and then it happened—her control snapped. A surge of magic exploded from her, knocking me off my feet and sending a shockwave through the field. The ground cracked beneath us, the grass scorched where her power touched.
For a moment, there was silence. Her breathing was ragged, her hands trembling as she stared at the destruction she'd caused.
I got to my feet slowly, dusting myself off. "There you are," I said, meeting her gaze. "That's the power you've been hiding from me."
Her eyes flickered with uncertainty for a second, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. "i...."
I stepped closer, close enough to feel the heat of her magic still lingering in the air. "Stop holding back with your words too. Say your mind, don't hold anything back." I didn't know anything about her, but somehow, I wanted to know her story, her past, and why she hated me so much.
Her jaw clenched. "You wouldn't understand."
"Try me."
For a moment, I thought she might actually answer, but instead, she started collapsing and falling to the ground, I moved swiftly, catching her just in time before she hit the floor, I guess I pushed her too far.
