Chereads / Mr. Billionaire's Fake Fiancée / Chapter 14 - The Spirit

Chapter 14 - The Spirit

Laura, "But I can be your father, so now you don't even listen to what your father says. You went to a bar and hung out, and such an expensive one? Where did you get the money?!"

Peter, "Someone else took me there!" Peter knew that money was always Laura's main focus. "My roommate is a second-generation rich, so he took me there."

After Peter finished speaking, his voice raised, "Sis, you still dare to say so. I dare not recognize you with that appearance at the bar tonight. Who is that wild man?!"

Laura, "He's a rich wild man. Do you have any better ideas?"

Peter, "..."

After a long silence, he became somewhat sorrowful, his voice almost choked, "Has our family's financial situation become so desperate? You are actually willing to sell yourself... Sis, we can borrow from loan sharks! At least loan sharks won't rush us to repay the money, but with this kind of men, once you sell yourself once..."

Laura, "Pfft! It was me who took on a new mission. I'm going to be someone else's fiance, didn't you know that? That wild man is the one."

Peter, "Do the big shots these days need such a thing and still look so handsome? Sis, you're not losing out!!"

Laura, "Fine, just get out of there first. I still need to settle the bar incident with you."

She couldn't let him get sidetracked.

Peter, "Don't leave! If you're capable, come in!"

Laura sneered, "Sure, Peter. If you're capable, don't come home during your break. And by the way, you won't have your allowance this month."

Peter stood his ground, "It's okay, I'll rely on my rich roommate to support me."

Laura, "..." Alright, each of the brothers is more audacious than the other.

A male voice with a hint of amusement came from beside, "Peter, you're shameless as hell."

Laura hung up the phone and sent this month's living expenses to Nancy and Wilson.

Both of them received 10,000 dollars.

Actually, Nancy didn't need the money anymore since she had a job, but for Laura, this amount was nothing, so she still transferred it to them.

With the money she earned, apart from Karen's large expenses on food, there were other uses.

Late at night, the only option was to take a car home. Even near the university, there were hardly any taxis running late at night. There were also very few students nearby.

It was possible to get a car through a taxi app, but there might be a wait time.

Just then, a black sedan slowly pulled up next to Laura, and her hand holding the phone paused. A kind middle-aged face appeared from within the car. "Young girl, where are you going? Today is my last trip before going home. I can give you a cheaper fare."

Laura glanced at her phone. "Never mind, I'm going quite far."

The driver, with a warm heart, said, "No problem, you name it. Where to?"

"200 West Suburb LN Avenue," Laura replied.

When combined with the rumors of haunting and the late hour, that place seemed eerie.

The driver clearly had heard about it as well and looked somewhat surprised. However, he smiled and said, "It is a bit far, but it's not too far from my home. It's on the way, so I'll take you there for 150 dollars. What do you think? If you're worried, you can see, this is my registration information on the app. You can call for me through the taxi app."

He held up a mobile phone. Laura didn't look at it and simply opened the car door and got in. "Alright, 150. Let's go."

The fares through the taxi app were all over 200 dollars, so one can imagine how long the journey was.

It was almost midnight by now.

When Laura got in the car, the lights from the university town reflected off the driver's face, which seemed to hold a hint of a smile, somewhat sinister.

The city lights were still bright along the way, and the driver occasionally tried to strike up a conversation.

Laura, however, was absent-mindedly staring at her phone. "Sir, I don't like chatting. Can you drive quietly, please?"

The driver frowned and glanced at Laura through the rearview mirror. Throughout the journey, Laura maintained her focus on her phone and never looked at him.

It was about half an hour later when they started to leave the city, heading toward the western suburbs. The surroundings became more remote, with fewer people and buildings along the way. Soon, even Laura's phone lost signal.

Laura shook her phone. "Ugh, so annoying. It was already noisy, and now my phone doesn't even have a signal. Isn't it torturing me?"

Her words made the driver's eyelid twitch. He grinned and said, "Young girl, I didn't say a word throughout the whole trip, so where's the noise coming from?"

Laura's phone didn't even have earphones plugged in, and it was usually on silent mode, so what was she referring to with the word "noisy"?

Laura looked up and glanced at the driver, smiling innocently, "Since I got in the car, the young lady in the front seat has been talking non-stop. She didn't stop from the beginning until now. Would you call that noisy or not?"

The driver froze for a moment, then suddenly slammed on the brakes, looking at Laura with a sinister smile. "Young girl, don't scare me. It's just the two of us in this car. Where did the young lady come from?"

Laura looked towards the front passenger seat as if assessing someone and chuckled, "Don't you recognize the lady in the office lady dress?"

The driver, "..."

And on the front passenger seat, a pure white spirit froze. Suddenly, she became excited. "You can see me! Oh my God, you can see me!?"

Because she was now a spirit, Laura could only see what she had worn in her previous life—an office lady dress and a blouse. She had been babbling all the way and desperately shouted at Laura not to get in the car, but as a spirit, there was nothing she could do. She never expected that Laura would be able to hear her speak!!
