"Mhmm," Max mumbled as he woke up from his slumber.
He felt his head being rested upon somebody's lap while they ran their fingers through his long hair.
'Wait? Long hair? When did I have long hair?' he muttered inwardly as he opened his eyes, revealing two blood-red pupils.
He turned to look at the figure hovering above him, only to notice his mother smiling back.
He narrowed his eyes as he tried to recall the events before his sleep; 'Fuck!', he exclaimed inwardly as his pupils dilated.
His fast-twitch muscles roared to life as he tried to get up from her lap. He remembered, his mother bit his neck; and her eyes, her blue eyes, were now blood-red!
But he stopped from getting up when he heard his mother say, "Baby, please."
Amara looked at her son with pleading eyes, her fingers still interlocked with his now-blonde hair that fell to the ground.
Max looked at his mother, his eyes narrowed as he was unsure about what to do. But after a moment of hesitation, he leaned back, resting his head on her lap.
Amara smiled at this and resumed running her fingers along his hair, causing Max to smile unconsciously.
Max closed his eyes as he felt relaxed. He liked it when his mother pampered him. Of course, he remembered what she did to him, 'To think my mother was actually a vampire…'
He mumbled in wonder, Max read his novels, and would be stupid not to know what her race was when she literally bit his neck.
'But to think vampires actually exist ... But why did she hide it from me?' he mumbled inwardly.
Max firmly believed that his mother would never hurt him. She was too obsessed with him to do any harm to him.
'Heh, I am a hundred per cent sure she would rather die than hurt me!' he exclaimed inwardly with pride, causing his chest to swell a little.
'Hmm, I wonder if I'm now a vampire—' as he was thinking to himself, Amara opened her mouth and started explaining, causing Max's internal monologue to end.
"You know, baby." She started, her eyes gazing into the air, as if she were recalling her past, "about 400 years ago, one of my rivals found themselves a successor."
Max's eyes widened at her words, 'Damn, 400 years ago? How old is she?' he exclaimed inwardly with surprise and amusement. But his amusement would be short-lived as,
"She—" Amara, who was about to continue, stopped abruptly and looked down at Max. "Honey, did you think something bad about your mother?" she asked with a sceptical look on her face.
Max's face paled at her words, 'Damn, no wonder a woman's intuition is said to be scary!'
"N-No!" he managed to stutter.
Amara's eyes narrowed down on Max for a moment; she didn't believe her son. But then, she shook her head and resumed her explanation.
"Anyway, my rival, when she showed me her successor and how she bragged about her, I grew jealous." Her eyes glinted for a moment as she continued explaining.
"I wanted a successor too, a better one than hers!" She then looked down at him and smiled.
Her hands left his hair and started caressing his cheek, "So I started searching. I wanted to find the best! After all, I am the best there is!" Her chest swelled with pride and arrogance as she said those words.
"I searched worlds, but I couldn't find any." She continued, her shoulders drooping slightly.
"There were many talented ones from different races: vampires, demons, angels, werewolves, elves, witches, and many more. But none of them could meet my standards."
Max listened in closely; his heart raced as he learned that there were many races out there. But he calmed himself down as he continued to listen to her.
"I spent about two centuries like that. Growing desperate, I came to Earth and started searching for my successor among humans. The weakest race there is."
Max felt a little offended by her words; after all, he was born a human.
"If not for the gods protecting them from other races, they would have perished millenia ago!"
Max was surprised again as he learned that gods existed. But his train of thought had to come to a halt when Amara continued.
"But, I found a person who could be my potential successor. His name is Adam, the first human."
Max stopped getting surprised; he figured that if gods existed, Adam would too.
"I taught him a few things, and he was good. He learned fast, and was quick to adapt." She continued.
"I wasn't satisfied; although he wasn't up to my mark, he was the closest anyone has ever gotten."
Mark narrowed his eyes as he looked at her; he didn't know why, but he was starting to feel uncomfortable.
His muscles twitched while his heartbeat quickened as he imagined his mother being with another man.
His eyes flickered while his stomach churned in disgust; he didn't like it; he didn't like it one bit!
"Since he wasn't up to my standards, I was prepared to leave him and look for another person," Amara resumed.
Max's expression eased at her words, and his heartbeat returned to normal as he listened to her.
".....I then left him. Searching for another potential successor. I searched everywhere, every continent, until,"
Amara's eyes flickered with intense love while a smile bloomed on her face as she caressed his cheek, "....Until I met you fifteen years ago."
Max's eyes widened at her words; he recalled the day when he first met her in the foster home.
He recalled how many kids tried to impress her after they found out that she was rich. But she ignored all of them and directly went for him, which has confused him till today.
"You were perfect!" Amara exclaimed, her expression bordering on madness as she looked at him, "You were sweet and handsome. I felt a connection with you the moment I laid my eyes on you!"
She cupped his face with her trembling hands, "On that day, I forgot everything! My question to find myself a successor or the competition with my rival! I just wanted you; I wanted you to be with me forever! I wanted you to be mine!"
Max's heart thumped against his chest as he looked at her. He didn't understand why, but his mother looked incredibly beautiful to him.
"And, I decided. I adopted you. And the more time I spent with you! The more I realised how stupid I was! I didn't need any successor; I only needed you!"
BADUMP
Max's entire body trembled with joy at her words. He clenched his jaw while he tightened his grip on her hand.
"I wanted you, Max! I wanted you with me forever! That's why I turned you into a vampire!"
Her blood-red eyes shone fiercely with obsession for her son; her breathing became ragged as she added, "You're mine, Max! You're mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!"
BADUMP BADUMP
Max's heart thumped against his chest; his eyes wavered at the intensity of her gaze, which was filled with her love.
An unconscious smile of joy bloomed on his face while a chuckle escaped his lips. He felt butterflies in his stomach as he got up from her lap.
BADUMP BADUMP
He then lifted his hands to her cheeks, gently caressing them.
"I love you too, mom." He said before leaning forward, pressing his lips against her.
