Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Broken Bonds

It had been weeks since Naruto and Sasuka had last spoken. The once-strong bond they had shared seemed like a distant memory, replaced by cold indifference. Naruto could feel the shift deep in his bones. He could sense Sasuka drifting further from him, and worse yet, he had noticed her spending more and more time with Menma. It was as if the universe was mocking him—ripping apart the one connection he had and placing Sasuka closer to the brother he could never live up to.Naruto found himself standing on the training grounds, hidden behind a tree, watching Sasuka spar with Menma. The sight twisted his heart into knots. Sasuka was fierce, as always, her movements sharp and precise, but there was something different in the way Menma interacted with her. He wasn't just sparring—he was trying to impress her.Naruto's fists clenched tightly at his sides. He felt the familiar burn of jealousy rise within him, but also something deeper—something more painful. Sasuka had been his last hope, the one person who had seen him for more than just the Nine-Tails' vessel. But now, she had moved on. She had chosen Menma, the brother who had everything Naruto lacked. As Menma's laughter echoed across the training grounds, Naruto couldn't take it any longer. He stepped out from behind the tree, his heart pounding in his chest. His mind was a storm of confusion, jealousy, and fear of losing the only person who had ever truly been by his side."Sasuka!" Naruto called out, his voice trembling slightly. Both Sasuka and Menma paused their sparring, turning to face him. Menma's expression was one of mild surprise, but Sasuka's was colder—her gaze sharp and unwelcoming."What do you want?" Sasuka asked, her tone harsher than Naruto had expected. The words cut through him like a blade.Naruto swallowed hard, trying to keep his composure. "I... I just wanted to talk."Menma, standing nearby, watched the exchange with curiosity, a faint smile playing on his lips. He didn't seem particularly hostile, but Naruto could sense something in the air—something unspoken between Menma and Sasuka that made his stomach twist."Talk?" Sasuka raised an eyebrow, folding her arms. "About what? You haven't had much to say in weeks."Naruto's breath hitched. He knew this wasn't going to be easy, but hearing the bitterness in her voice made it even harder."I've been... trying," Naruto said quietly, his eyes darting between Sasuka and Menma. "But I've been going through a lot. I just wanted to understand why you've been spending so much time with him."At this, Menma grinned, stepping forward casually. "Why wouldn't she? We've been training together. She's one of the strongest in our class. Makes sense we'd train together, don't you think, Naruto?"Naruto glared at him but said nothing. His attention remained on Sasuka, hoping for some sign that she still cared. That there was still something between them.Sasuka, however, was unmoved. "You're jealous," she stated flatly, her arms still crossed. "Is that what this is about? You're jealous because I've been training with Menma instead of you?"Naruto opened his mouth to protest, but the words died in his throat. It was true, wasn't it? He was jealous. Jealous of Menma's strength, jealous of his bond with their parents, and now, jealous of the fact that Sasuka seemed to have replaced him."I'm not—" Naruto started, but Sasuka cut him off."You're weak, Naruto," Sasuka said, her voice cold and unyielding. "And you've been holding me back."Naruto felt like the ground had just been pulled out from under him. He stared at her, his heart pounding in his chest. "Holding you back? I've been trying to—""No, you haven't," Sasuka interrupted, stepping closer. "You've been stuck in your own head, feeling sorry for yourself, and now you want to blame me for moving on? I'm not going to wait around for you to get it together."Naruto's fists clenched at his sides. He could feel the sting of tears welling up in his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. Not here. Not in front of her."Sasuka..." Naruto's voice cracked, barely above a whisper. "I... I thought we were a team.""We were," Sasuka said, her tone unrelenting. "But you stopped trying. You've been stuck in your own misery, and I'm not going to let that drag me down. You need to figure out your own problems, Naruto. I'm done waiting."Naruto took a step back, his mind spinning. Everything he had tried to hold onto was slipping away. He had lost his family's love, the village's respect, and now—he was losing Sasuka too."But Menma?" Naruto finally said, his voice shaking with anger and pain. "You're just going to train with him now? You know he's... he's not like me. He has everything!"Sasuka sighed, her patience clearly wearing thin. "Menma has nothing to do with this. He's focused, he works hard, and he doesn't let his emotions get in the way. That's why we train together. It's not about him replacing you—it's about me moving forward."Naruto felt the last bit of hope crumble inside him. He couldn't take it anymore. He couldn't stand the sight of Menma and Sasuka training together, laughing together, while he was left behind."Leave," Sasuka said suddenly, her voice sharper than before. "You're just making this harder for yourself. Get stronger or don't. I don't care."Naruto stared at her, the world spinning around him. Everything inside him screamed to say something, to fight back, but no words came. The weight of Sasuka's rejection crushed him. With nothing left to say, Naruto turned and walked away. He didn't look back, not even once.As he walked, he felt the overwhelming loneliness settle deep into his bones. Sasuka was gone—truly gone this time. Menma would take his place in her life, just like he had taken everything else.Naruto clenched his fists, his nails digging into his palms. He had no one left. No family, no friends, no support. He was truly alone. And for the first time in his life, Naruto wondered if it was even worth trying to fight anymore.
