Chapter 4 - 4 - Pieces Of The Puzzle

At the precinct, the morning started like any other. The usual noise filled the room—phones ringing, officers chatting. I tried to focus on my work, pushing last night's events to the back of my mind.

My desk was cluttered with files, each one a mystery waiting to be solved. But I couldn't stop thinking about Marcus. There was something about his involvement that didn't sit right with me.

Figure it out, Detective Gray. Was that guy mocking me ?

Detective Allen , my partner, came over with a cup of coffee. "You look like you didn't sleep," he said, placing the cup next to me.

"I've had better nights," I replied, managing a weak smile.

Allen , despite being my partner, was extremely close to me. He was like a best friend of mine. I shared mostly everything about anything with him. He always supported me no matter what. Wasn't big on judging me either.

I didn't really have much of a social life. Besides, my introverted personality wouldn't let me make friends. I guess that explains as to why I'm so close with my partner.

At first, Allen was very mean to me. I hated him and he hated me too. It was a mutual feeling of hate. I don't know what changed. I don't know when things changed. I assume it's mainly because we spend more than half a day together, I guess we have learned to tolerate each other.

"So, what do you think about the case?" Allen asked, sitting down across from me.

"I don't know yet," I said truthfully. "There's just something off about it."

Allen nodded, understanding my hesitance. "Want to go over the evidence again?" he suggested.

I agreed. We spent the next hour reviewing every little detail—the gun, the lack of fingerprints, and of course, the message: *Solve it.*

"This killer is playing with us," Allen said, frustration evident in his voice.

"Like always," I replied. But something about this case felt different. The connection to Marcus couldn't be ignored. I wanted to tell Allen about it but it seemed unnecessary especially since I didn't have any proof.

We needed more information, and I knew just the place to start. We had to figure out who the victim was. Maybe it would lead us to more answers.

"Let's check the security cameras near Luciano's bar," I suggested.

Allen nodded, and we grabbed our coats, heading into the rain-soaked streets.

I just hope to get to the bottom of this case. Whoever is causing these murders shall not escape prison.

As we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that Marcus was keeping secrets. I knew he was involved. My instincts were never wrong.

Whatever he knew, I had to find out. And I will. soon.
