"I need new clothes, Alpha. Things suitable for strolling outside," Olive's voice reverberated in his head.
"Jackets, I suppose. Boots and Jean pants. I had lots of them back at the cult," she added while staring into space with a weird smile on her face.
"What's with the awkward smile?"
"It feels like a dream. That I can wake up in another house not belonging to The Vrek Cult, and not worry about going back," she answered and looked at her cold pizza.
She smiled, lifted it up to her lips again and took a very big bite. She munched happily and nodded her head rhythmically as if she had earphones plugged in.
Wayne watched her in amusement. How could she be carefree and innocent looking one moment, and the next she turns into a guilty faced and nervous female then back to looking carefree.
He placed another pizza slice on her plate from the box and got on his feet.
"Sleep now since we have about two more hours until evening. I'll wake you up when we're ready to go," he said as he was walking out of the room.
Olive wanted to scream at him to wait, but only her mouth opened wordlessly. She watched as he opened the door and disappeared behind it immediately.
Olive couldn't help feeling down again. Whenever he left her, she felt sullen and sad. She wanted him to be around her 24/7 even though she knew that was impossible. He was an Alpha. The Alpha of the biggest pack in the country. Surely, he had loads of responsibilities and couldn't hang around his wanty little mate all the time. She finished the last slice he had given her and wiped her fingers clean. She placed the plate on the bedside table and laid down, covering herself with the blanket. She closed her eyes and drifted up to sleep.
Alpha Knight had returned to his quarters, but not to his room. He had entered his gym and was hitting punch bags with so much verocity that the bags were bursting open. He didn't know why he so wanted to let off steam, but couldn't call his men to spar.
He wanted to be alone, yet he h@ťěd the loneliness. He sunk to the ground and gripped his hair tight. His eyes became blurry and he felt darkness taking over his mind.
"No," he muttered as he fell to the cold floor. Few seconds later and he was unconscious.
When he opened his eyes, he was tucked in his bed, shirtless and weak. He looked around and his room was empty. How had he gotten to his bed? He remembered passing out in his gym. He gulped dryly and walked out of his bed. He was only wearing his shorts and was even barefoot. He walked to his bar, chugged down enough water then walked towards his pool. He dived in directly and let himself sink to the bottom.
'Miserable. That's what you'll be' he heard that feminine voice echo in his head. His eyes yanked open and he swam to the surface. He began breathing fast, his wet hair covering half of his face.
He h@ťěd the feeling he was getting. It had been years since he last felt that way, because he had mastered control. He was now rock-hard, wicked, and dark even more than before. So, why did that feeling of despair crawl back in?
He blinked his eyes and packed his wet hair backwards with both his hands. He needed to see Mufasa again. As he was stepping out of the pool, his door opened and he hoped it was Olive returning. He wanted to see her desperately. But why? It couldn't just be because she was his mate? Something deeper caused that feeling.
However, it was Jake that stepped in. He saw Wayne and bowed his head slightly.
"Alpha," he acknowledged him.
Wayne just walked to the towel rack opposite the pool by the wall and picked a towel. As he was drying himself, Jake was watching him intently.
"You passed out, Wayne," he finally spoke up.
"Were you the one who brought me in?" the Alpha asked. Jake hummed in acceptance.
"Are you alright, Wayne?"
But he didn't answer. He wasn't alright. But he couldn't let Jake know he was slowly crumbling again.
"Did you get the clothes? Olive and I are leaving soon," Wayne changed the topic. Jake sighed and looked at the closet.
"Yes, I have. They are all packed in the closet," he answered. Wayne moved there and a look of satisfaction sprawled on his face the moment he took in all the mixed clothes. The closet used to be so masculine before, but now Olive's clothes, though still dark coloured, made the closet a little bit less brooding.
"Pleaae bring her in from Dolly's room."
"Yes, Alpha," and Jake was gone. Wayne took a quick shower and wore his clothes. He sat on his sofa, legs wide apart. One of his hands was on the armrest, the other stretched on the headrest. He was gazing at the table, but his mind wasn't even near it.
He was snapped out of his world of thoughts when the door slowly opened. Her scent filled him, bringing life and energy with it. He looked at her directly and let his eyes look her over.
His wolf purred in his head at the angelic princess, taking slow and gentle strides into the room with her pretty black dress swaying slightly. That feeling he first got when he saw her for the first time returned. To protect.
She didn't seem to see him yet as she was glancing around the large room.
"Olive," he drawled and she slowly moved her head to look at him. Their eyes locked again, brown to green.
There was something about the way he called her name just now that got Olive feeling warm from the inside. That call was possessive, yet soothing. It was seductive yet safe. It was tantalizing to her ears and what wouldn't she do to have him call her that way again? With that deep, smooth voice of his.
As Olive's eyes locked with his, she realized yet again that Alpha Wayne Knight was breathtaking. His hair was damp, and tossled. His eyelashes clung to one another, making him look like a beautiful man. The way his jaw was clenched, she felt like he was telling her to run her hands on it. The way he sat down like the big and dominating wolf that he was, she felt like crawling into his embrace and just to safely stay there.
No doubt, Olive was getting very attracted to this mate of hers. And it wasn't even the mate bond this time. It was simply because he was seductively handsome.
✧Chapter 18✧
"You look good," she breathed out. His tensed up cheek muscles flicked and a smirk appeared on his face.
"Is there a time I look awful?" he teased her.
"Thanks for the compliment though," he added as he continued to smirk at her.
She gulped and turned around to walk towards the bathroom. She successfully made it to the door, but something told her he was still staring at her. She wanted to look back so badly, but she managed to open the door and enter. She heaved a deep sigh, expecting to feel relief that she was no longer under his gaze.
But instead, her nostrils inhaled his rainy smell and it messed with her senses. She suddenly wanted to turn back, run to him and sniff his hair. She balled her fists in an attempt to refrain herself from moving. Thankfully, it worked. She stripped, entered under the shower that reeked of him and manage to shower with closed eyes. When she was done, she wore a bathrobe and stepped out of the bathroom.
Was it her? Or was the temperature in the bedroom rapidly increasing? She had felt it as normal when she first stepped in. Her eyes looked up and rested on Alpha Knight who was staring at her with eyes even darker than before. His jaws had clenched tighter, that Olive thought they hurt. She could see his balled fists.
Instinctively, she moved backwards. He was going to hurt her again. Panic visibly showed up in her eyes. Wayne got on his feet and took only two steps when he noticed she was not just wet, but scared as a wet chick under the rain. He stopped in his tracks and his eyes trailed down to her chest, where he could visibly see two white rounds of skin protruding from the bathrobe which covered the most of them. He wanted them. Wanted to stare into her green orbs as he flicked his tongue over hardened nibbles of hers and watch her desirous eyes roll back in. The thought vibrated through his body like a bolt of lightning. He was turned on, and his heat was spreading round the room making it hot.
"Alpha?" she called out to him. He looked into her eyes and saw fear again. But behind that fear, he saw a lady made for him. His wolf's furs stood erect, acknowledging that Olive, his mate was extraordinary.
"Get dressed. New clothes are in the closet for you to change into. I'll be in the waiting hall," he said in the deepest, segziest voice she had ever heard. It was like he was saying he would wait for her, to do silly things with her. But she knew better. Alpha Knight wasn't attracted to her.
Jealousy nibbed at her heart as she suddenly remembered his kiss with Cynthia. The way he looked at her with desire that day. What if he was still in love with Cynthia? That reminded her. What happened to her? Did she return to The Vrek Cult? How did she manage to even be with Wayne when she wasn't mates with him?
**
It took just ten minutes of waiting, for him to scent her coming out. He turned around and froze slightly when he saw her.
Olive was wearing a long black jacket that flowed behind her. It had buttons from the top to the waist but Olive chose to button only one in the middle. She wore a black, tight t-shirt inside and dark blue jeans. Then a pair of black boots beautified her legs. She had braided her hair into one single french braid and it hung over her back. The style fitted her oval face, bringing out all her beauty and facial structures. If she had gone into modeling, then she definitely would top them all because models in the industry now didn't even have the beautiful face anymore.
Looking at how elegantly dressed she was, Wayne was reminded of brave female spies in action movies. She walked to him with a smile.
"How do I look?" she asked while clutching the open sides of the jacket, just below the hooked button.
"Astonishing," he breathed out and Olive seemed to look surprised that he had actually complimented her. She only asked the question for courtesy sake, not even expecting an answer.
"Shall we?" he asked and she nodded. She walked behind him as they moved towards the elevator. They entered and moved down in absolute silence. As soon as the door dinged open and they stepped out in the hallway, six men rushed to them. All were wearing black suits as usual. The eight of them looked like bloody assassins of the Mafia together. The only color other than black was Olive's pants.
"Not tonight. It's just me and my mate," Wayne ordered curtly and held Olive's hand.
Instantly, they both felt it. The electrical surge that formed between their palms and traveled in ripples up their arms. Olive's eyes glanced at their palms and then at his face.
"Felt that?" he whispered. She nodded and tried to free her hand, but he held it even tighter. The men cleared from their paths and the two began to walk towards the front doors. Before they could reach it, it opened and Lady Gia walked in with two stern looking ladies behind her. Gia looked at Olive first then at Wayne.
"Alpha," she said and the three of them bowed their heads in respect before looking up a second later. Wayne didn't acknowledge them, instead his hand moved up from Olive's hand. At first, Olive felt dry and empty after they parted hands. Surprising herself, because she had been the one who wanted to even part hands earlier. But then, her breath hitched when she felt his warm hand circling her waist from behind. Gia's gaze travelled down to his hand and a slight flicker appeared in her tensed cheek.
"Who is this, my Lord? I have never seen her here before. Is she a relative?" Gia asked as she scrutinized Olive up and down. She wanted to find a flaw in her, to believe she wasn't good enough for their Alpha.
But that instant, Gia couldn't bring one up. The lady beside Alpha Knight was gallant, beautiful and looked brave. However, no. Gia didn't want anyone, any lady to be braver than her. She was the bravest lady, it had to remain so. She wouldn't want to be regarded in a room after another lady was regarded.
"Another time, Lady Gia," Alpha Knight answered gruffly.
He walked through their mist with his lady, almost stepping on Gia's feet as he did so. Gia's lips thinned at the sight of people bowing to the Alpha and the lady. Jealousy rippled in her heart slowly as she stared at Olive's back.
