Leo Langston was a man who didn't lose. He had spent years building an empire, dominating industries, and securing his position at the top. He wasn't about to let Michael Lennox—or Quinn—slip out of his control.
Sitting in his office at Langston Group, Leo skimmed through the latest reports Austin had delivered. His plan to cripple Michael's company was already in motion, and he expected to see the effects soon.
Austin cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably. "Sir, our contacts confirm that Lennox's supply chains have been disrupted, and two more of his investors backed out this morning."
Leo smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Good. That should be enough to put him on the defensive."
Austin hesitated. "Actually… Michael Lennox doesn't seem to be struggling. In fact, his company's stocks are stable, and investors are showing renewed confidence."
Leo's smirk faded. "What?"
Austin handed him a tablet, showing a headline from a major business news outlet:
"Lennox & Quinn's Group Secure Exclusive Partnership with Fletcher Enterprises—A Game-Changing Move."
Leo's grip on the tablet tightened as he read the details. Not only had Richard Fletcher remained loyal to Quinn and Michael, but he had publicly announced that their alliance was stronger than ever.
"This… wasn't supposed to happen," Leo muttered, narrowing his eyes.
Austin exhaled slowly. "Sir, it appears they were prepared for your interference."
Leo set the tablet down, his jaw clenched. "They had a backup plan."
Austin nodded. "And it worked."
Leo's frustration boiled beneath the surface. He had expected Michael's company to collapse under pressure, but instead, they had solidified their position even further.
He wouldn't let this slide.
At Quinn's Group headquarters, Quinn sat across from Michael and Richard Fletcher in a private conference room. The tension from Leo's attempted sabotage still lingered in the air, but they had managed to weather the storm unscathed.
Quinn folded her arms. "Leo thought he could corner us, but we anticipated his moves. We made sure our investors were reassured before he could shake their confidence."
Michael smirked. "And with Richard's public endorsement, Langston Group won't be able to spin this against us."
Richard leaned back in his chair, amused by the entire situation. "Leo underestimated you, Quinn. And that was his mistake."
Quinn exhaled, her expression hardening. "He'll try again. He always does."
Michael leaned forward, his voice firm. "Then we make the next move before he does."
Quinn glanced at Richard. "How secure is our contract?"
Richard smiled. "Ironclad. Even if Langston Group wanted to interfere, they can't touch this deal."
Quinn nodded, her confidence solidifying. "Good. Then it's time we go on the offensive."
Michael's grin widened. "Now that's what I like to hear."
Furious, Leo wasted no time setting up a private meeting with Richard Fletcher. He didn't appreciate being blindsided, and he intended to make his position clear.
Richard met him in a high-end lounge, sipping his whiskey calmly as Leo took a seat across from him.
"I have to admit, Leo," Richard said smoothly, "I expected you to make a move, but I didn't think you'd be so predictable."
Leo's expression was unreadable, but his voice was dangerously low. "You knew."
Richard smirked. "Of course, I knew. I've been in this business for a long time, Leo. I know how you operate."
Leo clenched his fists. "And yet, you chose to side with them."
Richard took another sip of his whiskey before setting the glass down. "I sided with success, Leo. And right now, Quinn and Michael are making the right moves. I'd rather bet on someone who's innovating than on someone trying to hold onto a sinking marriage."
Leo's jaw tightened. "This isn't about my marriage."
Richard chuckled. "Oh, but it is, isn't it? This isn't just business for you, Leo. This is personal."
Leo's silence spoke volumes.
Richard leaned forward, lowering his voice. "You can try to sabotage them all you want, but Quinn isn't the woman you married anymore. She's stronger now. She's winning. And if you don't accept that, you'll end up losing everything."
Leo's glare was ice cold. "We'll see about that."
Richard sighed, standing up. "Enjoy your drink, Leo. But if I were you, I'd start asking myself why I'm doing this."
With that, Richard walked away, leaving Leo alone with his thoughts.
That evening, Quinn arrived home later than usual. She expected Leo to be waiting, and she was right.
Leo stood near the staircase, his arms crossed, his expression unreadable. "You had a meeting with Richard Fletcher today."
Quinn walked past him, setting down her bag. "Yes, I did."
Leo took a step closer. "You knew I was going to make a move against Michael."
Quinn turned to face him, her eyes steady. "Of course I did."
Leo's jaw clenched. "So, this was all part of your plan?"
Quinn's voice was calm, but firm. "It was part of protecting what I've built. I won't let you destroy my company just because you don't like who I work with."
Leo scoffed. "Michael is using you, Quinn."
Quinn took a step closer, her eyes blazing. "And what exactly have you been doing all this time, Leo? Using me for a marriage that benefited you. Ignoring me until I became a problem you couldn't control. You don't get to lecture me about manipulation."
Leo's eyes darkened. "You're still my wife."
Quinn's voice dropped to a whisper, but it was laced with steel. "Only in name."
The words hit Leo harder than he expected.
Quinn took a deep breath. "This is the last time I'm going to say this, Leo. Stay out of my business. If you try to sabotage me again, I will retaliate. And this time, you won't be able to recover from it."
Leo stared at her, his emotions unreadable.
Quinn didn't wait for a response. She turned and walked upstairs, leaving Leo standing there, the weight of her words pressing down on him.
For the first time, he felt something unsettling—he was losing Quinn. And he wasn't sure if he could stop it.
