Chapter 3 - Chapter 3:Crossed Paths

Hedro sat in the first-class cabin of a transatlantic flight, staring blankly at the in-flight entertainment screen. The corporate expansion into North America required his presence in New York, a city he had never visited but had heard endless stories about—its energy, its chaos, its opportunities.

His father's parting words echoed in his mind:

"Remember, this trip isn't just about numbers, Hedro. It's about building relationships. The Americans value connection."

Hedro sighed and leaned back in his seat, loosening his tie. Connection wasn't his forte. He had mastered negotiation, strategy, and charm, but genuine connection? That felt elusive.

The plane touched down at JFK, and as he stepped into the cold New York air, Hedro felt a surge of adrenaline. This was a new world—one far removed from the polished offices of Madrid.

Aliana hurried through the crowded streets, clutching a paper bag filled with fresh produce. Tara's apartment was only a few blocks away, but the city's relentless energy made every step a challenge.

"Watch out!" a cyclist yelled as he swerved past her.

"Sorry!" Aliana muttered, shaking her head.

She turned the corner and collided with someone. The paper bag slipped from her hands, spilling apples and greens onto the pavement.

"Oh no, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, bending down to pick up the scattered items.

"No, please, it's my fault," a deep voice responded.

Aliana looked up to see a man with dark hair, sharp features, and an impeccably tailored coat. His accent was distinctly European—Spanish, perhaps.

"Let me help," he said, crouching to gather the apples.

"Thanks," Aliana replied, feeling a strange sense of familiarity, though she was certain she had never seen him before.

When they stood, the man handed her the bag and offered a small smile. "I hope this doesn't ruin your evening."

"No harm done," Aliana said, brushing her hair from her face. "Thanks again."

As they parted ways, Hedro glanced back at her retreating figure. Something about the encounter left him intrigued, though he couldn't quite place why.

Aliana, meanwhile, walked on, trying to shake the inexplicable feeling that her life had just shifted, ever so slightly, in an unexpected direction.
