Chapter 1 - who's memories are this

What's your favorite game? Mine's D&D. I can't exactly pinpoint when I first started loving it, but the experience is unreal. You sit in a circle with a group of people, and for a few hours, you all create a world together—like your life depends on it. Some campaigns can last an entire year. You're just pretending with a bunch of random people, using magic, and playing as an elf, but it feels so real.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. The reason I asked that question is that I've been playing D&D for a long time. I've built two level 20 characters and about four-level 15s, so I've got plenty of experience. But as fun as it is, playing as these pretend characters isn't the same as living as them.

This is the story of how I ended up in the MCU with my two level 20 characters.

It all started when I was polishing the frame of my level 20 character sheets. Yes, I had them framed because they were my favorite characters I'd ever played. While I was polishing them, I felt my stomach twist, then my whole body. The next thing I knew, I was falling from a high altitude—about 1,500 feet. And for the seventh time in my life, I screamed like a middle school girl who had her phone taken away.

After shrieking for a minute or two, I calmed down faster than I normally would, which was strange because I'm the kind of person who would scream until my last breath. I'm easily scared, but I didn't notice that at the time—why? Because I was still falling to my death.

Then, I did something I couldn't explain. My body just moved on its own. My mouth spoke a language I had never heard before, but somehow understood, and my hands made gestures I didn't recognize. Then I spoke the words, "Freedom of the Wind."

Suddenly, my fall slowed down, as if time itself had stretched. I descended in slow motion until I finally reached the ground. And when I landed, I kissed the earth beneath me with my whole face, where flowers that weren't there before began to bloom.

After reaching the ground, I sat there for a moment, trying to steady my shaking body. I raised my hand, and though it was still trembling, I barely noticed it because something far stranger caught my attention. My skin tone had changed.

Instead of the deep brown, I was used to, it was now a light brown. Confused, I turned my hand over and searched for a scar I'd had since childhood, but it wasn't there. That was even more unsettling. I'd had that scar for 18 years—it couldn't just vanish in a single day.

When I stood up, I felt something was off, especially with my weight. Looking down, I realized I wasn't wearing my usual jeans and light blue shirt. Instead, I was clad in full plate armor, with a symbol I vaguely recognized but couldn't place.

I quickly removed the armor, revealing a plain shirt and pants that looked like something out of the Middle Ages. But the real shock wasn't the change in my clothes—it was the transformation in my body. I was supposed to weigh 250 pounds with a belly.

I had never been slim. So, seeing my body like this was completely overwhelming. To make sure I wasn't dreaming, I punched myself. Unfortunately, it was all too real.

I wasn't sure why because I assumed everyone would want abs and muscular arms. But all I felt was disgust at the sudden and unnatural change. Finally, I tried to push the weird changes to the back of my mind and looked around.

The first thing I saw was a large river right in front of me. Behind me, there was a massive building that looked both ancient and important. On the side of one of the buildings, I saw the word "Greenwich."

I quickly put on the armor I had removed, not just to avoid leaving it behind but also to cover up my strange new body. The problem was that the armor didn't include a helmet. But then, to my surprise, a helmet suddenly formed on my head. It startled me for a moment, and when I tried to remove it, it simply disappeared.

"That's pretty cool, but I swear I recognize this armor... what was its name?" I racked my brain for a few minutes, trying to remember where I'd seen it before.

"What is it…?"

Looking at the armor again, I noticed the symbol on the plate—an intricate circle with vines spiraling around it, a moon in the background. And then it hit me.

The Aegis Plate.

It was the armor I had gotten while playing as an elven wood elf—a character who was a level 9 fighter and 11 druid.

Looking down at my hips, I froze. There was a sword—and a pouch. Wait, that's Soulfang, my sword, and... my bag of holding?

I opened the bag and nearly dropped it when I saw what was inside. There were items I knew—things that I remembered getting during my adventures. There was the dagger Nyumba, the one I'd gotten from that insane witch who was so skilled in spatial magic that she nearly killed me over and over. I could still picture it—her cutting me across the stomach. The pain—it was real. I could feel it like it had just happened yesterday.

But... wait. How could I remember the pain from a game? This was just a game, wasn't it?

I blinked, trying to shake off the confusion, and grabbed the next item: the Belt of Dwarvenkind. I remembered that too. I had to fight that dwarf whose beard had been burned off in a fire to get it. I remembered the whole fight, including when he punched me right in the face. But no... it wasn't a real fight. It was just supposed to be a game. But I remembered the punch—the impact, the feeling of it. How was that possible?

No. This wasn't right. These weren't my memories. These were Elter's memories—the elf I'd played in that campaign.

I looked around in a daze, trying to make sense of what was happening, and then my eyes landed on something that made my heart race even faster. A bow. But this wasn't supposed to be here. This bow was something I had earned while playing Druoge, my human ranger. It was the reward for killing a two-headed dragon, and the bow was called "5 Elements Overshooting."

Wait. What? This was insane! Both my characters? My l elf, and my ranger? Their memories? In me?

This couldn't be happening. I... I was in the wrong reality. This was beyond weird. I was starting to feel like I'd lost my grip on everything. I didn't know what was real anymore.
