Chapter 13 - Beggars

"Hei Tianxie? Then, how about I call you by mr. Tianxie?"

"Sure."

Lu Liuyan got onto the carriage.

"If mr. Tianxie doesn't have much to do, how about joining me in having a chat on the way?"

"...Alright."

As they both get onto the carriage the coachman take the reigns of the horses and rode off.

Inside the carriage, Hei Tianxie was surprised at the space inside. It was about 5 times bigger and even had some small furnitures for decoration.

"Is this a spell?"

"Spell?" The maid tilted her head in confusion.

Afraid that her maid would cause trouble for her she quickly explains, "This is a formation that my family created. The inside can be expanded and also defend itself. Rong, make some tea."

"No need, I'm not interested in tea." He continues the conversation. "If your defense was as good as this expansion formation, then how did those bandits break through?"

"To be honest, one of the bandits was a spy that the bandits sent. They were waiting here for an ambush to rob my carriage. He must've dealt with the formations defense."

Hei Tianxie nods.

Honestly, he couldn't care about the reasoning behind all of the events that happened or why they happened. He just needed to get more information as he could.

"Are you heading home?"

"Yes. I was just out for a small errand and such a thing happened. Sigh, the Lu family has a lot of enemies."

Hei Tianxie nods and closed his eyes, no longer interested in making any more conversation.

After a couple of hours, the sound of chatter became more distinct and the road was less bumpy. They had finally gotten past the gate of the city.

He opened up the window and looked out.

In the streets, there were beggars as their eyes were had almost no life to them. As he's about to close the window, all of the beggars get up to the carriage, begging for money. The coachman lashed out his whip:

"Get away! Don't you know who's carriage this is!? Get lost!"

Afraid of any misunderstandings, Lu Liuyan quickly explained.

"Lately, there's been a lot more beggars lately. It's not that we don't want to help them, but if we do, we need to solve the issue at the root to really cure the problem. I hope that Mr. Tianxie doesn't misunderstand."

"No matter. What's one more death. Just mere mortals." He looked on the crowd of poorly dressed beggars, "In our thousands of years, these mortals will pass away in a blink of an eye. Mortal lives like mayflies, brief as planned."

She smiled. Her maid felt happy:

"That's right! They don't know their place and still bother the miss!"

Hei Tianxie turned to the maid and smiled slightly, "Really? Then why not just kill them?"

A powerful aura surged around his his right hand as he lifted it up slowly. Killing intent abundant in the air.

"If a mountain is in our way, crush it. If the ocean dare block us, split it in half."

He points his palm towards one of the beggars from behind the window, so that he would remain hidden from the public.

Lu Liuyan began to sweat in panic and pleaded, "Mr. Tianxie, these people haven't done anything wrong. They are just a little desperate, they mean no harm. Why bother with these lowly people?"

"..." He retracted his energy. "You're right."

Hei Tianxie no longer talked and closed his eyes. Lu Liuyan breathed out in relief.

"Rong, go and distribute food and money to them."

"B-but miss!"

"Are you the master or am I?!"

"Y-you are."

"Then what are you waiting for!?"

Rong, the maid walked out the carriage after bowing.

Hei Tianxie scoffed to himself.

What a joke.

If I didn't see Lu Liuyan falling into a trance when she saw me, I might have believed her.

-Do you really think so?

What? Are you saying I'm wrong?

-You think that you understand the human heart? You don't even know yourself well.

Hong Lianhua smiled and laughed in his ear.

-Be careful, or you'll be the one that turn out to be the fool. My best advice, just kill every person you come across that become tempted by your eyes.

That would make me no better than Tang Tao. Maybe even worse.

-How idiotic~ The moment you took my hand, you became better than Tang Tao, than everyone in this small world. Even if you kill someone, its because they deserve it!

...what exactly is your purpose?

She laughed at the ridiculous question.

-Does there have to be meaning in everything? When the rain falls, when it snows, when the sun goes up, when people die; there's no purpose. Its just the way things are. I'm the same.

–If I really did have a purpose then...It would be your purpose.

Don't blame the blade, blame the person who wields it, huh.

-If this isn't enough for you, I can promise you this. Although I enjoy watching you, I will never force you to do anything.
