In the spiritual realm, the Wild Rune squirmed, rotated, and grew in chaotic disorder.
When Link Star's palm touched the surface of the Wild Rune, it reacted like iron filings disturbed by a powerful magnetic force, extending tendrils toward his hand.
In an instant, the tendrils made contact with Link's palm, causing his mind to go blank.
Beneath his helmet, his eyes widened abruptly, his black pupils shrinking to the size of pinpricks, while the whites of his eyes dominated his gaze.
He felt as though he had plunged into the deep sea, subjected to immense pressure.
Apart from the instinct to breathe, nothing else occupied his thoughts.
Gasping for air, he began inhaling large amounts of vaporized Shimmer.
The Shimmer he was using was based on a formula from another timeline, created by Singed. It was more potent yet had almost no side effects.
Additionally, the use of blue sunflowers as a raw ingredient further enhanced the Shimmer's efficacy.
As the Shimmer entered his lungs through his respiratory system, his heart began to race, his pulse skyrocketing. The edges of his pinprick pupils glowed with faint blue strands of light.
The capillaries at the corners of his eyes bloomed like flowers, dyed a deep, starry blue by the Shimmer.
His mouth filled with saliva, and the taste, reminiscent of spoiled milk, became unbearable.
His body began to convulse involuntarily, as the power hidden deep within him erupted like a volcano.
In an instant, Link Star let out a roar.
Pure white light particles sprayed from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth as his magical talent fully awakened.
The white light particles ignored physical barriers, scattering like a fountain. Most of them landed on the Wild Rune, while some fell on his helmet and exoskeleton. The rest scattered across the spiritual realm.
As the light particles surged outward, the spiritual realm filled with chaotic, fragmented whispers.
"Move, move, you lazy bums, move!"
The kinetic recovery device on his exoskeleton trembled, emitting a sharp, urging sound.
"Ahhh, this feels amazing!!"
The electric engine crackled with bursts of current.
"I want to open ten!" shouted the electromagnetic keys hanging from Link's body.
"Come on, let's go kick something!" his boots urged impatiently.
"You shall call me—Mr. Spider!" The spider helmet's eight claws swayed wildly.
"Ooooh—"
A deep, whale-like resonance emerged from the Wild Rune.
...
Everything came to life. Whether it was Link's exoskeleton, his helmet, or the Wild Rune, all of them were animated after being touched by the light particles.
At the same moment, a wind began to stir in the spiritual realm.
Janna's ethereal figure appeared out of nowhere, her gaze immediately falling on Link.
Seeing the Wild Rune, Janna frowned.
"Is this the Wild Rune Link mentioned?"
Noticing Link touching the Wild Rune, her eyelids twitched.
"How can he be so bold, so reckless, to touch something like this without hesitation?"
As Janna rushed toward Link, she also noticed the strange changes happening around him.
"Someone's here, someone's here!" the gears chattered noisily.
"It's a woman, a woman!" the gear assemblies exclaimed.
"I remember her, she scratched my paint!" the spider helmet screamed.
"What's happening here?" Janna's eyes widened, unable to comprehend the scene before her.
But soon, she noticed the changes in Link's body.
An absurd yet undeniable thought surfaced in her mind.
"Has Link's magical talent awakened?"
"He can give life to inanimate objects? This... this is nothing short of a miracle!"
"Link!!"
Janna called out to Link, and his pupils trembled slightly.
"Link... Link... Link...."
"Wake up, Link!"
Janna continued to call his name, and the trembling of Link's pupils grew more intense.
A spark of thought ignited in his blank mind.
At the same time, the light particles that had burst from his body began to return.
First, the particles scattered across the spiritual realm returned to him, followed by those on his exoskeleton, and finally, the ones on the Wild Rune.
As the light particles flowed back, Link's thoughts gradually returned.
Remembering who he was, where he was, and what he was doing, he heard Janna's call.
"Why... did I stop?"
Link's pinprick pupils slowly returned to normal. The moment he saw the Wild Rune, he remembered his purpose for being here.
Without hesitation, Link activated the containment function of his device, directly storing the Wild Rune within it.
Just as the Wild Rune was returning the last of the light particles to Link, it vanished, absorbed into his device.
The moment the Wild Rune disappeared, Link's legs gave out, and he collapsed to his knees.
Simultaneously, the spiritual realm began to thin, fading like ink washed away by water, disappearing at an astonishing speed.
At that moment, both Link and Janna returned to the material realm, at the base of the Hexgate.
"Link, are you okay?" Janna transformed back into her bluebird form, landing on Link's head. She instinctively raised a claw to scratch but hesitated, remembering the spider helmet's earlier scream.
"I feel a bit tired..." Link forced himself to stay upright, refusing to collapse.
Janna sighed in relief. "You really scared me earlier."
"What happened?" Link had no memory of the events after he activated the Shimmer enhancement and charged at the Wild Rune with his exoskeleton at full power, reaching out to touch it and store it in his device.
It was like a blackout after heavy drinking.
"We hadn't been inside for long when you suddenly disappeared," Janna explained. "After you vanished, I sensed the spiritual realm's fluctuations and followed you there."
"And then?"
"Then I saw you touching the rune, and your exoskeleton and helmet came to life, chattering nonstop."
"My exoskeleton and helmet came to life?" Link's eyes flashed with confusion. "How?"
Janna took a deep breath. "I think when you touched the Wild Rune, its arcane properties forcibly triggered your magical talent, causing it to awaken."
"And the reason your exoskeleton and helmet came to life is because of your awakened magical talent."
"Link, do you realize what this means?"
"It means..." Link paused. "I don't have to worry about artificial intelligence anymore?"
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Janna rolled her eyes, speaking seriously. "It means your magical talent can breathe life into inanimate objects, bringing them to life."
"This is a miracle!" Janna declared solemnly. "Only a miracle can describe your power!"
"A miracle, huh?" Link exhaled softly. "A power that can directly create artificial intelligence is indeed a miracle."
Janna tilted her head, looking at Link. How could he still be thinking about his research at a time like this?
What an unfunny little guy.
"Did you see anything else besides what I just told you?"
"When I was calling out to you, I noticed light particles flowing back to you from your exoskeleton, helmet, and even the Wild Rune. It must be a manifestation of your magical talent."
"The Wild Rune also had light particles?" Link's heart skipped a beat. Janna nodded. "Yes. I think when you awakened, you might have unconsciously used your power to influence the Wild Rune, which is why you weren't harmed by directly touching it."
Link thought of the original storyline involving Jayce, Heimerdinger, and Ekko, and chuckled wryly. "Looks like I got really lucky!"
"Alright, let's head back," Janna said, glancing disdainfully at the Hextech crystal matrix and the deep well below. "I feel really uncomfortable staying here."
"We'll definitely go back, but before that—" Link stood up and walked toward the Hextech crystal matrix. "I need to borrow some Hextech crystals for research."
As Link approached the matrix, Janna suddenly turned her head toward the base's entrance.
"Link, someone's coming."
Link paused and looked back, seeing Jayce walking into the hall, holding a heavy hammer, his eyes filled with caution.
"You're..." Jayce frowned. He recognized something familiar about Link's exoskeleton, instantly recalling the mysterious figure who had intervened during the memorial service attack. "The guy from the memorial service."
"What are you doing here?"
