Chapter 1 - A Moment Before

"My name is Yuuto Fujiwara, I'm 18 years old. From what I've heard, my name means 'fragile'. Yeah, that's right... fragile. I've never really liked it, to be honest. My parents were the ones who gave me this name, and they named me that for a reason.

They thought that it would remind me to be careful. to be gentle with the world around me. But honestly? I don't think this name fits me at all. I'm not weak. I've never been fragile. If anything, I'm a lot stronger than people think. But I guess that's just the way names work, right?"

Yuuto then paused for a moment, looking around at his classmates who were packing up to leave as soon as the bell rang. The afternoon chatter filled the classroom as students were ready to escape school.

But Yuuto's mind was already elsewhere, on something far more important, or more precisely... someone.

'Yuna Aoki'

Yuna was everything to Yuuto. Since their first year of high school, she had been an important presence in his life, and in many ways, she was the one who made him feel complete. She wasn't just a girlfriend to him, she was his confidence, his source of happiness, and the person who could even make his darkest days brighter.

Her quiet elegance caught everyone's attention; it felt like a gentle breeze on a summer evening. Her soft smile, loving eyes, and the way she always knew exactly what to say to maki him feel better. To Yuuto, Yuna wasn't just beautiful; she was the perfect girlfriend. She was the person who made the world feel less lonely.

Today, however, wasn't just any ordinary day. It was a day Yuuto had been waiting for all week. After a long stretch of boring classes and endless homework, he finally had something to look forward to, A date with Yuna. They were going to their favorite coffee shop, a comfortable place they had discovered together back in their first year of high school.

The café wasn't fancy or anything like that, but it was special to them. The warm lighting, the soft hum of conversations, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee made it feel like a place just for the two of them. Yuuto always felt comfortable there, especially when it was just the two of them.

But recently, something about Yuna felt off. She wasn't her usual self. Lately, she seemed distracted, maybe even distant. It was like her mind was somewhere else even when she was sitting next to him. She would sometimes pause in the middle of a conversation, her thoughts clearly floating away. It wasn't anything big. Just little things Yuuto started to notice more and more.

Normally, Yuna was the kind of person who made you feel understood. Her soft smile, the way she'd laugh at his jokes even when they weren't that funny, the way her eyes sparkled with excitement. Those things made her feel alive. But lately, her smile didn't feel as bright, and her laughter felt quieter.

Yuuto didn't want to overthink it though. Relationships had ups and doenws, right? Maybe she was stressed with school, or she was just tired. It wasn't like everything could be perfect all the time.

"Just a few more hours" he told himself as the school bell finally rang, signaling the end of the day. He packed up his things quickly, eager to leave.

The classroom was loud with students laughing and making plans for the weekend, but Yuuto stayed focused, pulling out his phone to check if Yuna had messaged him.

Sure enough, there was a text waiting for him. "I'm at the café. See you there, Yuuto!"

A small smile appeared on his face as he read her message. No matter what, seeing her always made him happy.

Outside, the streets were damp fron an earlier rain. The gray sky didn't bother Yuuto much, though. He actually liked the rain, it felt calming. He walked home quickly, changing his clothes, from his uniform to a navy hoodie and a pair of dark jeans. After a quick glance in the mirror, he grabbed his phone and headed out the door.

The walk to the café wasn't long, but it gave Yuuto time to think. He found himself replaying memories of Yuna in his mind, the first time they met, how she'd smiled at him from across the classroom, how she made him feel like the most important person in the world. She was his everything, and no matter how distant she'd seemed lately, he couldn't help but hope tonight would bring them closer again.

When he reached the café, he saw her right away. Yuna was sitting by the window, resting her chin on her hand as she looked out at the rain. Her long, dark hair circled her face perfectly, and even though she wasn't doing anything special, she still took his breath away.

"Yuna." Yuuto called softly as he approached the table.

She looked up, her face lighting up with a warm, soft smile. "Yuuto!" she said, standing up to greet him. She gave him a quick hug before sitting back down. "You're a little late, but I'm glad you're here."

"Sorry." he replied, smilling back as he sat across from her. "The rain finally calmed down."

Yuna let out a small laugh, her voice as gentle as always. "It's fine, I didn't mind waiting."

But as much as Yuuto wanted to focus on the moment, he couldn't help but notice something in her expression, something was off. Her smile was there, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. She seemed... distracted again, her gaze occasionally focusing on the window.

Yuuto pushed the thought aside. "How was your day?" he asked, trying to keep things simple.

"It was alright." Yuna said after a short pause. "Just the usual stuff... classes, homework, nothing exciting."

Her answer was short, almost rushed, and Yuuto felt a small feeling of discomfort. Normally, Yuna loved talking about her day. She would tell him everything, every single detail, from funny moments with her friends to the struggles of solving math questions. But tonight, her words felt... distant, almost too distant.

Yuuto tried to keep the conversation alive, asking her about her weekend plans or her favorite shows, but Yuna's replies still felt flat. She wasn't being rude, but she clearly wasn't as engaged as she used to be before. She kept spacing out, glaring at the window, as if she was waiting for something, or someone.

He told himself not to take it personally, Maybe she was just tired. Maybe she had something on her mind she wasn't ready to share yet. Relationships weren't always perfect, he reminded himself. Sometimes you had to give people some space.

But even so, he couldn't shake the heavy weight in his chest.

The café, the one that once felt warm and comforting, now felt a little colder.

Still, Yuuto smiled, hoping that if he just kept trying, he could bring things back to the way they used to be.

But deep down, a tiny voice in his head wondered if things would ever really be the same again.
