Chapter 34 - The Wild Encounter

The air had cooled as the sun dipped behind the horizon, casting long shadows across the training fields of the academy. Raine stood in the open, his gaze fixed on the horizon as he reflected on the recent events. The attack on the Beast Taming Tower had only heightened the pressure weighing on him. Though he had gained recognition as a champion in the tournaments, there were still forces conspiring against him—forces that would stop at nothing to see his magic fail.

But Raine wasn't someone who crumbled under pressure. He would rise. He had to.

With a sigh, he turned to Beast Sprout and Azure Solfox, who were quietly resting by his side. He had spent the last few days focusing on refining their abilities, especially his control over their elemental magic. The bond between them had deepened, and though they weren't yet at their peak, Raine was beginning to sense their potential.

"Tomorrow we head to the Wildlands," he murmured, his voice filled with determination. The Wildlands were the untamed, dangerous areas just outside the academy's borders, home to many mystical creatures. Some were docile, but most were ferocious. There, Raine would hunt down the elusive four-star beasts—creatures known for their power and rarity.

The sound of approaching footsteps broke him from his thoughts. Master Nivon walked over, his expression stern but purposeful.

"Raine, I'm sending you out on a mission tomorrow. You're to venture into the Wildlands with your beasts." His voice was firm, yet there was a hint of something deeper in his eyes—something Raine couldn't quite place.

"A mission? What kind of mission?" Raine asked, raising an eyebrow. The academy rarely sent students out on missions so early in their studies, especially when it involved the Wildlands.

"It's not just any mission. There's a beast there—a rare, four-star creature—one that's been wreaking havoc on the region. I need you to either capture it or eliminate it." Master Nivon's gaze hardened. "It's a dangerous creature, Raine. It's your chance to prove that you can handle the power of Beast Taming magic. But be careful. Many have tried and failed to tame it."

Raine's pulse quickened. A four-star beast? This was the kind of opportunity he had been waiting for. If he could tame a beast of that caliber, it would be a monumental achievement, not just for his standing in the academy, but for his mastery of Beast Taming magic.

"Understood, Master Nivon. I won't let you down." Raine's voice was filled with resolve. He could feel the familiar thrill of the hunt building inside him. A four-star beast was no small challenge, but Raine was no ordinary Beast Tamer.

The Wildlands

The next day, Raine set out at first light, his beasts at his side. The Wildlands lay just beyond the academy's borders, a vast expanse of untamed terrain. Dense forests, rocky cliffs, and mist-covered swamps were just a few of the dangers that awaited those who ventured into the Wildlands. Raine had always known the place was dangerous, but today, he would face it with a purpose.

As he journeyed deeper into the Wildlands, the atmosphere grew tense. Every step felt heavier, as if the land itself was watching him, waiting for him to make a mistake. Azure Solfox's fur bristled, its sharp senses alert for any sign of danger. Beast Sprout remained by Raine's side, its small but fiery form flickering with a subtle but potent magic.

Raine's mind was sharp as he scanned the area. He knew the location of the creature—a massive, four-star beast that had been reported near the Blackthorn Marsh, a particularly treacherous part of the Wildlands. He had read the reports, and the beast sounded formidable. It was an Abyssal Gryphion, a creature known for its immense strength and lightning-fast reflexes. Its feathers were said to shimmer like dark lightning, and its claws could rip through stone.

Raine had no illusions about the danger he was about to face. The Abyssal Gryphion was far beyond his current level of mastery. But the possibility of taming such a creature—it was a chance he couldn't afford to miss.

As he approached the marsh, the air grew thick with mist, obscuring his vision. The ground beneath his feet turned soft and treacherous, each step sinking slightly into the swampy earth. The trees loomed tall and silent, their branches twisted like skeletal hands reaching for the sky. Raine's eyes narrowed.

"Stay alert." He murmured to his beasts. "We're getting close."

The Encounter

Suddenly, a roar echoed through the mist, shaking the ground beneath Raine's feet. The sound was deafening, sending a shock of adrenaline through his veins. Without thinking, he commanded Azure Solfox and Beast Sprout to prepare for battle.

The beast appeared, its form emerging from the mist like a shadow in motion. The Abyssal Gryphion was even more magnificent than Raine had imagined. Its wings were massive, a dark storm cloud in the shape of feathers, and its eyes burned with an intelligent, predatory gleam. It was much larger than any normal gryphon, standing tall with claws that looked capable of tearing through steel.

"So, you're the one they sent to tame me?" the creature's voice boomed in Raine's mind. The telepathic words reverberated with a strange, otherworldly power. Raine's heartbeat quickened. The beast had spoken to him.

"I'm not here to tame you. I'm here to capture or eliminate you, if necessary." Raine responded mentally, his voice steady despite the surge of energy within him. This was the ultimate test—could he tame a beast that had been untamable for centuries?

The gryphion let out a low, rumbling laugh. "You think you can stop me? You, a mere boy with beasts who are still learning their place? You have no idea what you're dealing with."

The words of the gryphion made Raine's grip on his focus tighten. He couldn't afford to show any fear, not now.

"We'll see about that." Raine's voice was a low growl, filled with quiet confidence.

With a sudden burst of speed, the Abyssal Gryphion lunged forward, its claws slashing through the air toward Raine. But he was ready. He ordered Azure Solfox to create an ice barrier, blocking the gryphion's strike just in time. The creature hissed in frustration but quickly darted to the side, preparing to strike again.

Raine's mind raced. He had to tame the gryphion—he couldn't afford to let this opportunity slip away. But the creature was not only physically powerful; it was also incredibly intelligent, able to adapt to Raine's tactics almost instantly.

"Beast Sprout, help me stabilize its emotions!" Raine shouted, knowing that his connection with his beasts was the key to breaking the gryphion's fierce resistance.

Beast Sprout responded immediately, its fiery aura flaring as it sent waves of calming energy into the gryphion's mind. The creature staggered for a moment, its aggressive movements faltering as confusion spread across its features. Raine seized the opportunity.

"Now!" he commanded.

In one swift motion, he activated his Symbiosis Ritual, the connection between him and his beasts deepening. The gryphion roared, struggling against the pull of the ritual, but it was already too late. Raine's will was too strong.

With a final burst of energy, Raine completed the ritual. The gryphion froze mid-roar, its form quivering as the bond between them was forged.

The creature's eyes, once full of fury, softened. A moment of silence passed before it spoke again.

"You… have tamed me." Its voice was a mix of respect and disbelief. "No one has ever been able to do this before."

Raine exhaled, feeling the weight of the accomplishment settle on his shoulders. The gryphion, a four-star beast, was now his.
