Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

### **Chapter 8: Preparations for the Tournament**

The class buzzed with energy the morning after their first dungeon run. The success of the mission had fueled everyone's excitement for the upcoming class tournament. Conversations about strategies, talents, and potential matchups filled the air as students speculated about who would emerge victorious.

Jae-min sat at his desk, reviewing the system interface. His Star Power had increased to 33, and he could feel the subtle change in his energy reserves. However, he knew he was still behind many of his classmates, who had awakened higher-tier talents or had trained their abilities for years.

**"System,"** Jae-min thought, **"what's my best path forward? The tournament is in six days, and I need to be ready."**

The system's response was immediate.

**"Prioritize strategic combat training. Your talent's strength lies in adaptability and environmental manipulation. Focusing on these aspects will maximize your effectiveness in the tournament."**

---

Later that day, Mr. Kang addressed the class.

"The tournament will test not only your individual strength but also your ability to think on your feet. Matches will be held in simulated arenas with dynamic environments. You'll need to adapt to different terrains and situations to succeed."

His gaze swept over the students. "I suggest you form sparring groups and practice. Use this time wisely."

The class immediately broke into small groups. Jae-min noticed that most of the stronger students gravitated toward each other, leaving him to figure out his own training plan.

"Hey, Jae-min!"

He turned to see Ji-a waving him over. She stood with So-young, Hyun-woo, and Min-jae—the group he'd been paired with in the dungeon.

"Why don't you join us?" Ji-a asked with a smile.

"Really?" Jae-min hesitated, glancing at Min-jae, who shrugged nonchalantly.

"Yeah," So-young added. "You were a big help in the dungeon. We can all learn from each other."

Jae-min nodded, grateful for the opportunity.

---

The group headed to the training grounds, where they set up a sparring session. Ji-a took charge, organizing matches to test each person's skills.

Jae-min faced off against Min-jae first.

"Don't hold back," Min-jae said, raising his sword.

"I wasn't planning to," Jae-min replied, activating his **Dungeon Insight** ability.

The system provided a detailed analysis of the training ground, highlighting potential hazards and advantages. Jae-min used **Create Zones** to destabilize the ground beneath Min-jae, forcing him to adjust his stance.

"Not bad," Min-jae said, countering with a swift attack.

Jae-min dodged, using the environment to his advantage. He created temporary barriers to block Min-jae's movements and used the terrain to outmaneuver him.

Although Min-jae ultimately won the match due to his superior combat skills, Jae-min held his own, impressing the group.

---

Over the next few days, the group continued to train together. Jae-min learned to anticipate his opponents' moves and refine his abilities. He also discovered new ways to use his talent, such as creating zones to trap enemies or directing their movements.

One evening, after a particularly intense training session, Ji-a approached Jae-min.

"You're getting better," she said, handing him a water bottle.

"Thanks," he replied, taking a sip.

Ji-a hesitated before speaking again. "I know you probably feel like you're at a disadvantage because of your talent's tier, but I think you're underestimating yourself. You're creative, and that's what makes you dangerous."

Jae-min looked at her, surprised. "You really think so?"

"I do," she said with a smile. "Keep pushing yourself. You'll surprise everyone."

---

The night before the tournament, Jae-min sat in his room, reviewing everything he'd learned. The system displayed a summary of his progress.

**Name: Jae-min

Star Power: 33

Talent: Dungeon Architect (C-tier)**

- **Ability 1: Create Zones** – Generate temporary zones within arenas to manipulate terrain and control the flow of battle.

- **Ability 2: Resource Extraction** – Identify hidden resources for strategic advantage.

- **Ability 3: Dungeon Insight** – Analyze arena layouts to uncover traps, hidden paths, and weaknesses.

**"System, do I stand a chance in the tournament?"** he asked, his voice filled with uncertainty.

**"Victory is determined by strategy, not strength alone,"** the system replied. **"Utilize your environment, anticipate your opponents' moves, and trust in your abilities. Success is achievable."**

Jae-min took a deep breath, steeling himself for what lay ahead. He couldn't afford to doubt himself now.

---

The day of the tournament arrived, and the students gathered in the academy's grand arena. The air was electric with excitement and nervous energy.

Mr. Kang stood at the center of the arena, addressing the crowd. "Welcome to the class tournament. Each match will be held in a simulated environment designed to test your adaptability and combat skills. Remember, this is a test of your growth, not just your power. Give it your all."

The students cheered as the first match was announced.

Jae-min watched from the sidelines, observing the battles and taking mental notes. His first match was fast approaching, and he knew he had to be ready.

As his name was called, he stepped into the arena, his heart pounding in his chest. The simulated environment flickered to life, transforming into a dense forest with uneven terrain and hidden traps.

His opponent, a confident-looking boy named Tae-ho, smirked at him from across the field. "Let's see what the 'support guy' can do."

Jae-min didn't respond. He took a deep breath, activating **Dungeon Insight** as the countdown began.

**"This is it,"** he thought. **"Time to prove myself."**

**To be continued...**
