Chapter 12: A Confrontation and a Confession
Lila arrived at Alexander's office, her heart pounding in her chest. She was dressed to the nines, a silk dress that accentuated her curves, her hair styled to perfection. She felt a strange sense of defiance, as if she were preparing for a battle.
The receptionist, her eyes wide with surprise, ushered her into the executive suite. Alexander, his face etched with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation, rose to greet her. He looked incredibly handsome, his tailored suit accentuating his broad shoulders.
"Lila," he breathed, pulling her into a warm embrace. "You look… stunning."
Lila, startled by his intensity, returned the embrace, her body trembling slightly. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice husky.
He pulled back, his gaze sweeping over her, his eyes lingering on her lips. "I missed you," he confessed, his voice low and husky.
Lila felt a surge of unexpected longing. She had missed him too, more than she wanted to admit. The past few days had been a torment, a constant reminder of the love she shared with him, the warmth of his presence.
"I missed you too," she admitted, her voice barely a whisper.
He took her hand, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through her. "Come, sit down," he said, gesturing towards the leather sofa.
As they sat down, Lila noticed Ethan standing by the window, a file in his hand. He looked startled, his eyes widening as he met Lila's gaze. He quickly bowed his head, his face flushed.
"Ethan," Alexander said, his voice firm. "This is Lila, my wife."
Ethan stammered a greeting, his eyes darting nervously between Lila and Alexander.
Lila felt a surge of defiance. "So," she said, her voice cool and collected, "you're the one who accompanies my husband on all his business trips."
Ethan's face paled. "Yes, Ma'am," he stammered, his eyes fixed on the floor.
"Are you sure you are trustworthy?" Lila asked.
This made Ethan speechless.
"Ethan, that will be all for now," Alexander said, his voice firm. "I need to speak with Lila."
"Babe, why do you ask him that, I thought we've talked about this before?" Why bringing that up?" Alexander asked.
"I was just concerned about you." Lila replied.
"I know, you have always been so concerned about me." Alexander said.
"I had something important to tell you," Alexander said, his voice softening. "I'm going to be out of town for a few days. I have a family gathering, a reunion with my cousins."
Lila felt a surge of relief. "A family gathering?"
"Yes," he said, a smile playing on his lips. "It's going to be a bit of a drive, so I'll be gone for a couple of days."
Lila felt a sudden surge of excitement. Two days. Two whole days without the constant fear of discovery, two days to indulge in her forbidden desires.
"When will you be back?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"Tomorrow afternoon," he replied. "I can't wait to see you."
He leaned in, his lips brushing against hers. "I love you, Lila," he whispered.
Lila closed her eyes, her heart pounding. She knew she shouldn't enjoy this, that she was betraying him. But the thrill of the forbidden, the knowledge that she had a window of opportunity, was intoxicating.
