Chapter 7.5: The Silent Wanderer

Beneath a sky of swirling stars, a lone figure trudged through the vast desert of glass. Each step crunched against the crystalline surface, the sound carried far in the still, otherworldly air. The figure wore a hooded cloak, its edges frayed and dusty, concealing their face. They carried no weapon, only a staff etched with strange symbols that glowed faintly in the moonlight.

The desert stretched endlessly, its glass-like sands reflecting the heavens above. It was said that those who wandered too far into this place would lose themselves, their reflections becoming trapped in the glass for eternity.

The Wanderer, however, moved with purpose, their gaze fixed on the horizon.

---

As they walked, the silence was broken by a faint whisper—a voice carried on the wind. It was not a voice meant for the ears, but one that resonated in the depths of the soul.

"Why do you tread where others fear to go?"

The Wanderer paused, their staff sinking slightly into the glass beneath them. "Because fear binds the mind. And the mind must be free."

The voice chuckled, a sound like shifting sands. "A bold claim. But what do you seek in this forsaken place?"

The Wanderer tilted their head, as though considering the question. "The key to a locked door."

The voice grew softer, more insistent. "And what lies beyond that door?"

The Wanderer did not answer, their grip tightening on the staff.

---

The journey continued, the stars above seeming to shift with every step. The reflections in the glass began to move unnaturally, the images twisting and warping.

The Wanderer stopped once more, their staff planted firmly in the ground. "Reveal yourself," they said, their voice calm but firm.

The air shimmered, and a figure emerged from the glass. It was an identical reflection of the Wanderer, down to the smallest detail. But its eyes burned with an otherworldly light, and its movements were unnervingly smooth.

"You search for answers," the reflection said, its voice a mirror of the Wanderer's own. "But answers come at a cost."

"All things do," the Wanderer replied.

---

The reflection stepped closer, its glowing eyes narrowing. "Then pay the price."

In an instant, the desert erupted with light. The glass beneath their feet shifted and cracked, forming jagged peaks and valleys. The Wanderer moved swiftly, their staff glowing brighter as they navigated the treacherous terrain.

The reflection pursued them, its form distorting and shifting like liquid glass. Each step it took sent ripples through the desert, the reflections around them splintering and reforming.

The Wanderer stopped abruptly, turning to face their pursuer. With a single motion, they struck the staff into the ground.

The desert froze.

---

The reflection hovered in place, its form flickering. "You cannot destroy me," it said, its voice now distorted.

"I have no need to destroy you," the Wanderer replied. "You are but a shadow of what I seek."

The reflection's glowing eyes dimmed. "And what do you seek?"

The Wanderer smiled faintly. "The truth behind the glass."

With that, the reflection shattered, its fragments scattering across the desert. The glass sands settled once more, and the Wanderer resumed their journey.

---

Far above, the stars shifted again, their patterns forming strange, fleeting shapes. And in the silence of the desert, the wind carried a single, unspoken truth:

The Wanderer walked not to escape the glass but to understand it.
