Chereads / The Emperor of Catastrophic Cards / Chapter 6 - Hidden Mainline Trigger

Chapter 6 - Hidden Mainline Trigger

As night fell in the bunker, all the surviving adventurers retreated into their rooms.

As long as they could survive tonight, they would be able to leave this alternate dimension tomorrow.

However, what none of them knew was that after the doors had been locked, on the fourth floor—a floor with a death rate exceeding ninety percent—something was brewing in room 4001.

In the room, a cold-faced young man with a pale complexion stood, flanked by an elderly man in a tailcoat.

The room was filled with a group of well-equipped Blackwater mercenaries.

The pale-faced young man had been quietly waiting in the secret chamber for a long time, his gaze occasionally flickering with burning anticipation.

The others only knew that this 407 Abnormal Creature Containment Facility was an alternate dimension treasure trove that produced rare materials and demonic sigil cards.

But he knew more.

The Cao family had inherited a top-secret document from a thousand years ago that mentioned a mysterious "407 Research Institute" on the Old Continent, where a shocking secret had been hidden.

To his surprise, he had actually found it.

The Exile Wastelands surrounding Innocence City was the legendary Old Continent, and those hunters had found the alternate dimension bearing the same name as the one mentioned in the ancient documents—the 407 Facility.

If the records were true, this place could very well be home to one of the Fifty-Two Demon Lords' Source Cards.

That card was the epitome of demonic sigils, sung about in epic tales.

It might even be a card no one had ever seen before.

If he could find it...

It was something that could launch him to unimaginable heights, change the course of the Cao family, and even reshape the entire continent.

The young man couldn't hide the excitement in his heart.

At this moment, the old man finished setting up a six-pointed star formation and turned to the young man with a respectful tone: "Young Master, everything is ready."

The pale-faced young man, ensuring everything was perfect, personally confirmed, "Are the conditions to activate the 'T-Class Disaster Source' fully met?"

The old man replied, "Everything is in place. We've already spread the word; more than five hundred people have died in this alternate dimension. The soul sacrifices are more than enough."

Upon hearing this, a triumphant smile crept onto the young man's lips. "Then, let's begin."

...

Earlier, the witch had been in a dormant state, and her mental corruption wasn't too overwhelming.

But now the creature had awakened, standing at the door. Ji Xun could clearly feel the growing, primal allure of mental temptation.

Looking again, the thick iron door seemed to twist, and a transparent silhouette slowly materialized.

Her skin was snow-white, her posture regal, and her graceful figure was fully visible.

It was clearly the body of a corpse earlier.

But now, it had truly come back to life.

Watching this strange and bizarre scene, Ji Xun was also curious about how it passed through walls. He thought, Particle state wall-crossing? Or telekinetic wall-crossing?

The monster seemed to phase through the wall in front of him, and it was then that he realized the temporary teammate hiding behind the barrier in the corner hadn't been lying.

The monster really would come for him.

No matter where he hid, it would find him.

According to the mechanical-armed girl's intel, any ordinary person who laid eyes on the Fallen Witch would fall under her mental control, never realizing the danger until they died.

This was the tricky part about this B-grade disaster—its large-scale group mental control.

But at this moment, Ji Xun, lying on the bed, still had his thoughts relatively clear.

The notification kept flashing: Mental Corruption Immunity.

But as the monster drew closer, the notification changed, slowly transforming into a string of: Mental Corruption, Chaos +1.

Ji Xun realized that his ability to hold on this long was likely due to his incredibly high mental strength. If an ordinary person had been in his place, they would have lost their mind by now.

The witch drew closer, and the sense of temptation grew stronger.

It was an insidious kind of seduction, one that didn't rely solely on tempting the mind but also triggered bodily reactions.

Ji Xun's face flushed, and his blood surged.

The creature seemed to enjoy this reaction. Without hesitation, it floated closer, its face now right next to his bed.

A strange, demonic wind blew through, and even with the gas mask on, Ji Xun could smell the sweet fragrance that seemed to lift him into a state of delirious pleasure.

Her alluring form was fully exposed, every detail of her body visible, making his senses explode with a violent assault. It was almost as if he could reach out and touch her—at that moment, the temptation was at its peak.

"Hiss..."

Ji Xun's gaze blurred, his mind overwhelmed by this experience. Yet, he couldn't help but take a sharp breath.

Rationally, he felt the deathly crisis looming over him, but his body betrayed him. In this heightened state of spiritual ecstasy, a twisted desire began to emerge: I'd rather die in this state of indulgence than ruin the dream with the thought of breaking away.

That thought kept growing stronger, and his reason was on the verge of shattering.

This was the Fallen Witch's terrifying power.

He couldn't even draw his gun, let alone fight the monster.

Fortunately, he wasn't alone.

Ji Xun's peripheral vision caught a glimpse of his calm teammate still sitting motionlessly, and he couldn't help but let out a breath of relief.

The girl had not been affected, and the monster had not detected her. This meant her strength was likely far greater than it appeared.

Ji Xun's role was clear: remain the bait and wait for the witch to reveal her feeding form.

...

Ji Xun's senses were overwhelmed by the fragrance—whether it was a hallucinatory effect triggered by the seduction or if the creature was releasing actual pheromones, the result was the same.

The monster was right in front of him now, and the seductive aroma had him in a state where his blood was boiling. Uncontrollably, he greedily inhaled it.

It seemed like a seductive scene was about to unfold. But then, something horrifying happened.

Ji Xun had always assumed the monster absorbed life force through a physical union.

But that wasn't the case.

The seductive, naked form was just a tool to make the prey more appetizing.

Once the witch had entranced her target, she revealed her true form.

The beautiful body began to contort as if something monstrous was about to emerge. There was a horrifying tearing sound from within, as muscles in her abdomen split open.

"Riiip..."

"Riiip..."

"..."

Ji Xun could only watch in horror as the monster's waist and abdomen split open, all the way up to the neck.

Her entire chest and abdomen became a massive, blood-soaked maw, revealing hundreds of sharp teeth, like something straight out of hell. Deep within her flesh, a grotesque, infantile face wriggled, sending shivers down Ji Xun's spine.

This was the true form of the Fallen Witch!

"You have encountered curse energy. Constitution -0.005"

"You have encountered curse energy. Constitution -0.008"

"..."

His attributes plummeted rapidly.

Ji Xun could feel his physical functions being drained by some mysterious force. He could even see his blood being siphoned, coagulating into beads of blood, which were then swallowed by the monster's gaping mouth.

The little recovery he had made with the elixir had been undone.

It seemed to be savoring the taste.

And just then, something even more horrifying occurred.

A sharp, grotesque appendage slowly extended from the monster's body, aiming for Ji Xun's abdomen.

Now was the moment!

Suddenly, the mechanical-armed girl hiding behind the barrier sprang into action.

She took a deep breath, raised her left arm, and swiftly formed an incantation gesture. Immediately, a mysterious force surged from her fingertips. In an instant, the barrier under her feet glowed with dazzling blue light, and arcane symbols froze the air around them.

In the blink of an eye, she summoned a card with a chain pattern etched on it, shouting, "Earth's Hundred Chains Barrier, Seal!"

As soon as she spoke the words, the room was filled with a burst of light as chains of runic symbols surged from every direction, instantly binding the Fallen Witch.

Everything seemed to be going according to plan.

It was going smoothly.

The girl's face lit up with joy: "It worked!"

Ji Xun also let out a relieved breath.

The situation was going exactly as the two of them had predicted.

Now, as long as they followed the plan, they were likely going to kill this monster.

...

But then, something unexpected happened.

As they were preparing to kill the witch, a sudden and unanticipated change occurred.

Without warning, the entire alternate dimension shook slightly.

It felt as though some mysterious force had awakened, and the prompt appeared once again.

This was a notification that everyone inside the bunker saw.

"Explorer has triggered a hidden mainline quest. The alternate dimension disaster level has increased: Unknown."

"Current exploration progress: 29.7%"

**"A mysterious force has infiltrated the entire bunker. The disasters have mutated violently. The chamber doors have been unlocked, and they will actively hunt all humans inside the bunker. 'Survival Mode' has

transitioned into 'Escape Mode.' To survive, you must find the correct exit of the bunker."**

Ji Xun stared at the message, his mind full of confusion: "What?"

This wasn't part of the plan!
