Chapter 11 - Echoes of Regret

The days turned into weeks, and the pain of losing Eva weighed heavily on Elias. The forest, once a safe haven, now felt like a prison. His mind was a battleground, torn between the primal hunger that still lurked within and the overwhelming sorrow of losing the woman he loved. Magnus did his best to support him, but the darkness was relentless.

One night, as the moon hung high in the sky, Elias's frustration reached a boiling point. The memories of Eva's fear and her heartbreaking words echoed in his mind, driving him to the edge of madness. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her again, not after everything they had been through.

"I can't do this, Magnus," Elias muttered, pacing back and forth in the shed. "I can't lose her. Not again."

Magnus looked up from his work, his expression filled with concern. "Elias, you need to give her time. She's scared, but she still loves you. You need to fight this darkness and prove to her that you're still the man she loves."

Elias shook his head, his eyes wild with desperation. "I can't wait, Magnus. I need to see her. I need to make her understand."

Magnus's eyes widened with alarm. "Elias, no. You're not ready. The bloodlust is still too strong. You could hurt her."

But Elias was beyond reason. The need to see Eva, to hold her, was too powerful to resist. "I have to do this, Magnus. I have to," he said, his voice filled with determination.

Before Magnus could stop him, Elias bolted from the shed, his movements swift and determined. He made his way through the forest, his senses honing in on Eva's apartment. The city lights guided him, and soon he found himself standing outside her building, his heart pounding with anticipation.

He scaled the building with ease, his supernatural strength and agility making the climb effortless. He reached her window and peered inside, his heart aching at the sight of her. Eva was sitting on her bed, her face pale and drawn with worry. She looked so fragile, so vulnerable.

Elias couldn't wait any longer. He pushed the window open and slipped inside, his movements silent and swift. Eva looked up, her eyes widening with shock and fear. "Elias… what are you doing here?" she whispered, her voice trembling.

Elias's heart ached at the sight of her fear, but he couldn't stop himself. "Eva, I had to see you." he said, his voice filled with desperation.

Eva backed away, her body trembling. "Elias, you need to leave. It's not safe for you to be here."

But Elias couldn't leave. The need to be close to her, to feel her warmth, was too strong. He moved closer, his eyes locked on hers. "Eva, please. I love you. I need you," he whispered, his voice breaking.

Eva's heart pounded with fear, but she couldn't deny the pull she felt towards him. "Elias, you're scaring me," she said, her voice barely more than a whisper.

Elias's eyes filled with pain and desperation. "I'm sorry, Eva. I don't want to scare you. I just… I need you," he said, his voice trembling.

Before Eva could react, Elias closed the distance between them and captured her lips in a desperate, breathless kiss. The hunger and longing he felt poured into the kiss, his need for her overwhelming. Eva's initial shock melted into a mix of fear and desire, her heart torn between the two.

Elias's bloodlust surged, the scent of her blood driving him to the edge of control. But he fought against it, his love for her giving him the strength to resist. He deepened the kiss, his hands gently cradling her face as if she were the most precious thing in the world.

Eva's mind was a whirlwind of emotions. The kiss was intense, filled with a passion that left her breathless. But the fear was still there, lurking beneath the surface. She pulled away, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "Elias, please… you need to go," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Elias's heart broke completely. He looked at her, his eyes filled with pain and frustration. "Why are you always doing this... why is it so hard for you to see how much I love you?" he asked, his voice trembling with anger and sorrow. "Centuries ago, you promised you'd come back to me, but every time you do, you're always scared of me and I hate it. If this is what I get for waiting for you, then I'm done waiting. This is the last time I get hurt like this."

Eva's eyes widened with shock and sorrow, but she couldn't find the words to respond. The weight of Elias's words hung heavy in the air, and she knew she had broken something inside him that might never be fixed.

Elias turned and disappeared into the night, leaving Eva alone with her tears and the echoes of his heartbreak.

Eva's days turned into a blur of routine and empty existence. Ever since that fateful night, she had not seen or felt Elias's presence. The absence of him was a constant, painful reminder of the harsh words she had spoken. She tried to move on, to convince herself that she had made the right decision. But deep down, she knew she had made a terrible mistake.

Life in her apartment became a series of lonely nights and quiet mornings. The city outside moved with its usual rhythm, but Eva felt detached, like a ghost moving through her own life. Every time she looked at the locket around her neck, she was haunted by memories of Elias—his touch, his voice, the love they had shared.

One evening, as she walked home from work, Eva felt a chill run down her spine. It was the kind of instinctive feeling that usually meant danger, but there was no one around. She quickened her pace, glancing nervously over her shoulder. She wished for the first time that she could feel Elias's protective presence, but the silence was deafening.

Back in her apartment, she sank into her bed, exhausted and emotionally drained. As she closed her eyes, memories of that night flooded her mind. She remembered the look of pain and desperation in Elias's eyes, the way his voice had trembled as he pleaded with her to stay.

"Why are you always doing this... why is it so hard for you to see how much I love you?" His words echoed in her mind, each one a painful reminder of her own failure.

"Centuries ago, you promised you'd come back to me, but every time you do, you're always scared of me and I hate it. If this is what I get for waiting for you, then I'm done waiting. This is the last time I get hurt like this."

Eva sat up, her heart pounding with regret. "What have I done?" she whispered to the empty room, her voice choked with emotion. "Elias, I'm so sorry."

The nights were the hardest. Alone in her apartment, Eva found herself reliving every moment of their time together. She remembered the way he had looked at her, the tenderness in his touch, the intensity of his love. The memory of his desperate kiss haunted her, a reminder of what she had lost.

"I can never be with a monster like you." Her own words replayed in her mind, each one a dagger to her heart. She had called him a monster, but in truth, it was her own fear and doubt that had driven them apart.

Eva began to have flashbacks of all the times Elias had saved her, protected her, and loved her unconditionally. She remembered how he had fought his own bloodlust to keep her safe, how he had sacrificed his sanity for her. And yet, in her moment of fear, she had rejected him.

One particularly dark night, as the rain poured outside, Eva found herself in danger. She had been walking home when a figure emerged from the shadows, threatening her. Fear gripped her heart, and she instinctively called out for Elias. "Elias, please... help me," she whispered, her voice trembling.

But there was no response, no comforting presence. She managed to escape the situation, but the experience left her shaken and more alone than ever. She realized then how much she had relied on Elias, how his love and protection had become a part of her very existence.

Back in the safety of her apartment, Eva sank to the floor, her body trembling with sobs. "Elias, I'm so sorry," she cried, her voice breaking. "I didn't mean what I said. I was scared, but I love you. Please, come back to me."

The emptiness in the room was her only answer. The weight of her regret was crushing, and she knew she had to find a way to make things right. But how could she, when Elias was nowhere to be found?

Eva clutched the locket around her neck, her tears falling onto the delicate metal. "Please, Elias. Give me another chance," she whispered, her voice filled with desperation. "I love you. I need you."

The nights grew longer, and the weight of her regret became unbearable. Eva knew she had to find Elias, to tell him how sorry she was, to beg for his forgiveness. She had to find a way to reach him, to make him understand that her fear had blinded her to the truth.

Meanwhile, Elias was struggling with his own torment. He tried to forget Eva, to bury the pain of her rejection deep within him. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't escape the memories of their love. Her words haunted him, each one a reminder of the centuries he had waited for her, only to be met with fear and rejection.

Elias wandered the city, his heart heavy with sorrow. He avoided places that reminded him of Eva, but it was impossible to escape her completely. Every corner, every shadow seemed to hold a memory of her. He tried to distract himself, to focus on anything but the pain, but nothing worked.

One night, as he stood on a rooftop overlooking the city, Elias felt the weight of his loneliness crushing him. "Why is it so hard for you to see how much I love you?" he whispered to the night sky, his voice filled with anguish. "Why do you always come back, only to be afraid of me?"

The stars offered no answers, and Elias felt a deep, aching emptiness within him. He had waited for centuries, hoping that each time Eva returned, things would be different. But every time, the result was the same. Her fear, her rejection, and his heartbreak.

Desperate to escape the pain, Elias tried to end his own life countless times. He threw himself from rooftops, plunged into icy rivers, and even tried to starve himself. But each time, his immortality saved him, healing his wounds and bringing him back from the brink of death. Magnus, ever watchful, would often find him and pull him back from the edge, his heart heavy with sorrow for his friend.

"Elias, you can't keep doing this," Magnus would say, his voice filled with concern. "You have to find a way to move on."

But Elias couldn't move on. The pain of losing Eva was too great, and the weight of his immortality felt like a curse. "I can't, Magnus. I can't live without her," he would reply, his voice breaking with despair.

With a heavy heart, Elias turned away from the city, determined to find a way to move on. But deep down, he knew that forgetting Eva was impossible. She was a part of him, woven into the very fabric of his existence. And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't escape the love he felt for her
