"Sleep, Adena!" I say and blow off the candles.
" Your real name is so beautiful, 'Shanaya'. Why did you changed your identity? You told me only that you're a girl, you never told me why you're acting like a boy." She says , looking at some point.
" You won't sleep, right?" I say frustratingly.
" Tell me or.. I'll eat the peanut butter." She says threatening me, she always uses this trick.
" You know I can't lose you. And you always take advantage of it." I say sitting on the bed and light up the candle. "So listen." I say turning to face her.
AUTHOR'S POV
She sits like Shanaya is gonna tell her the most interesting story. "My mother died giving birth to me. My father married another woman. I was six years old when we came to know that I'm powerless." Shanaya says looking down as memories of past flash in front of her.
... FLASH BACK....
"SHANAYA!!" Her step mother shouts.
"What happened mother?" A little girl stammers .
"You dared to touch my daughter's toys!?" She shouts again. Her step mother was a middle aged woman.
" I...I wanted to play too. Father bought these toys for me.." she says trembling in fear.
A slap lands on her fragile face. " You'll talk back to me! What are you? A mere powerless Human!!" Her step mother shouts.
" Mom, don't say that.." she says as tears stream down her cheeks. She was not like other children, she was just six years old but circumstances made her mature.
"Don't call me that! Your mother died! You killed her! If you haven't born everything would be alright." She says and leaves.
Shanaya is left alone in the room. This can be called anything but a room. " Why?" She asks herself. She drops to her knees and cries her heart out. She's been listening to her step mother's taunts since she's one she was only one year old.
"Mama...why did you leave me alone like this? Mama I miss you..." She stammers as she writes her diary wiping her tears. "Father says you were very strong. Even more than him and I'm just like you. Then why she says that I'm powerless? Why does she says I killed you?" Tears roll down her cheeks. "Father told me, you didn't like to cry..but I cry a lot. Am I not as brave as you?" She cries for a while then God knows when she fell asleep. Many days passed just like that.
After a week her father came to her room. She ran and hugged him. "Dad..!"
He hugs her back. "Shanaya, how are you? I'm sorry, I'm late, my little angel." He says his voice barely above a whisper.
"I missed you, Dad." She says and a tear rolls down her cheeks.
Her father wipes the tear with his thumb. "My angel, how have you been?"
She forcefully smiles cuz she can't let him know anything. "Everything was fine, Dad." She says.
"Angel, you can tell me anything, you know right?" He says with gentle tone.
"Dad, I...."
