Chapter 87 - CHAPTER 87

She was about to give herself to him. From tonight on, she would be his true wife.

She remembered the lie she had told him about having had an abortion when they first met, just so he wouldn't touch her. Now that she was about to become his, she felt inexplicably nervous. If he found out she had lied and was still a virgin, would he think she was disobedient and untrustworthy?

But she believed that everything would work out in the end. When he asked, she would explain. Even if he got angry, it wouldn't last long.

With these thoughts in mind, she closed her eyes and waited for him to approach.

As he looked at her familiar face, Ethan felt possessed. His throat rolled uncontrollably as he moved closer to her lips.

Just as they were about to touch, a loud crash came from outside the door.

Boom!

The sudden noise interrupted the peaceful moment.

Ethan got up from the bed and grabbed his coat from the chair, striding to the door to open it.

Startled by the noise, Avery opened her eyes and quickly got out of bed to see what was going on.

It was late at night and all the servants had gone to bed. They didn't have any pets except for Ethan's snake, Ash.

And the snake had always been kept in the basement.

Who could have appeared outside the door and knocked over the potted plant?

Avery walked to the door, leaned out from beside Ethan, and saw that both potted plants on either side of the study had fallen over, spilling soil all over the ground.

Since the pots were made of ceramics, one of them had even cracked, and the shards had fallen to the ground, potentially injuring someone's foot if stepped on accidentally.

Other than that, there were no suspicious individuals, and it was impossible for there to be cats or dogs.

Avery immediately furrowed her brow and said, "What's going on? No one passed by, how could it fall over?"

As she spoke, she rolled up her sleeves and prepared to squat down and clean up the mess.

"You don't need to do that." Ethan glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, but the fallen potted plant was indeed suspicious.

He pulled Avery up and lightly grasped her shoulders, pushing her into the study. "It's already midnight, go to bed. I'll have Qin come over tomorrow to take care of this."

"Oh, okay." Avery obediently returned to her room and lay back down on the bed.

Thinking of what they had yet to do, she blushed and looked at the man at the door. "So... should we continue? I won't cover my face anymore. You, come here."

Ethan closed the door and turned to see the girl seemingly inviting him. For some inexplicable reason, he found her incredibly cute and wanted to get closer to her.

"Mm, let's continue." Returning to the bed, Ethan took off his coat and once again bent down, inching closer to her.

Avery's eyes were not yet completely closed, revealing a small slit. She watched as the man's delicate lips approached her, and her face grew hot once again.

However, just as they were about to approach each other, a strange sound came from outside the door.

"Bang!" The noise was even louder than the last time.

Frowning, Ethan stood up again. "I'll go check it out. You go to sleep first."

Avery wanted to go with him to see what was going on, but upon hearing his second sentence, she obediently nodded. "Okay, I'll wait for you."

She yawned and lay on the left side of the bed, leaving the right side for Ethan. He put on his coat and came out of the study again. He saw that the two potted plants outside were in an even worse state than before, as if they had been deliberately smashed. The broken pieces were scattered on the ground, and the ornamental trees that had originally been planted in the pots had clearly been trampled on.

It was obvious that this was done by someone.

The first person he thought of was Alexis, who was staying in the guest room.

He couldn't think of anyone else besides that woman.

Just then, he suddenly saw a corner of clothing exposed at the bend of the stairs.

He immediately walked over in big strides.

Perhaps hearing the noise, the corner of clothing quickly retreated and disappeared.

Ethan furrowed his brows tightly. The other person's behavior had obviously crossed his bottom line.

He quickly walked over, wanting to catch the woman on the spot.

Regardless of whether that woman was Avery's sister or not, he had to find her and throw her out of this house today.

When he turned the corner to investigate, the person was long gone.

He was sure it was Alexis and didn't want to be disturbed like this for no reason. He decided to go to her guest room and give her a warning.

As he descended to the second floor and arrived outside the guest room where Alexis resided, he coldly opened the door only to find darkness inside. In the darkness, Alexis turned on the light and rubbed her eyes upon seeing the man standing at the door, looking at her with a cold gaze.

"Mr. Blackwood, are you looking for Avery? She's not staying with me. You can check the master bedroom," she said in a serious tone, looking like she had no idea what had happened outside.

Ethan furrowed his brows and gave her a cold glance.

"You just..." he wanted to question her, but was interrupted by the voice of a servant coming from the direction of the stairs.

"I'm sorry, Third Master. When I was leaving work and going downstairs, I accidentally knocked over the two potted plants outside your study. I'll clean it up now. I'm sorry to disturb your rest. I'm really sorry," said a servant named Acai.

Looking towards the sound, Ethan saw Acai holding a dustpan and broom, his eyes full of fear upon seeing Ethan. "I was going to tell you earlier, but I was afraid you would scold me. I thought I'd clean it up first and then apologize to you. I'm sorry, Third Master. I'll be more careful next time," Acai continued.

Ethan's cold and stern gaze swept over Acai, who was frightened and dared not speak anymore. After a few seconds, he said coldly, "Alright, you can go back and rest. Clean it up tomorrow." Acai breathed a sigh of relief and nodded repeatedly, "Yes, Third Master. Good night, Third Master. Please rest early."

With the dustpan and broom, Acai hurriedly went downstairs. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the house, causing Ethan's brows to furrow tightly again.

At this moment, Alexis, who was in the guest room, had already gotten out of bed and walked to his side. She looked outside and spoke softly, "Mr. Blackwood, is something wrong? It's already midnight and you came to my room. Could it be that you miss me?" Alexis had a great figure and was wearing a tight-fitting nightgown that perfectly accentuated her curvy body.

She was also very beautiful and could easily rank among the top five in the socialite circle in New York. She was one of the most stunning women around.

The room was deliberately dimmed, and her light peach makeup looked extremely dazzling and alluring in the hazy light.
