Chapter 75 - CHAPTER 75

Dinner was a bit late today because before returning home, Ethan had called home and asked Qin to instruct the housekeeper to re-stew a pot of black-boned chicken soup and pork rib soup. When he arrived home, the soup was still simmering in the pot.

"Go rest in your room first, I'll call you when dinner is ready," Ethan said as he escorted Avery to the bedroom door before heading to the study.

Avery had no intention of resting now. Her mind was filled with thoughts of the 500,000 dollars and the design draft of the ring. She had decided that she would have to secretly borrow money from her aunt tomorrow. Since she still had to borrow money from her aunt, she would have to work even harder to prepare for the design competition, starting with improving her draft.

Before entering the room, she suddenly remembered that her bag was still in Ethan's car and quickly called out to the man who had not yet walked far away.

" Mr. Blackwood, my bag is still in your car. Can you give me your car key so I can get it myself?"

Ethan did not give her the chance: "The garage is too dark. You'd better stay in the room, I'll get it for you."

With that, he went downstairs. Watching his receding figure, Avery felt strange. She felt like he had changed, but his cold and distant demeanor seemed unchanged. She no longer thought about what had happened in the basement, but she did remember his apology.

It turned out that even Ice Face could apologize.

...

Ethan went downstairs and quickly arrived at the garage, where he found Avery's bag in the car. Inside the bag were thick design concept books and her laptop.

He picked up the bag and was about to leave when he suddenly remembered what Alexis had said at the company. He became more cautious. He sat back in the car and hesitated for a few seconds before opening the bag. He flipped through the book and a notebooks , and as expected, he found a cheque for 500,000 dollars in one of the books. The signature on the cheque read "Parker". Alexis had said that Parker was the person that Avery borrowed money from, her classmate.

With a cold sneer, he didn't let the cheque continue to exist. He took it out and put it in his pocket. Then he brought the bag back to the house and handed it to Avery.

She took the bag and quickly spread it out on the table. She carefully drew and wrote on the manuscript paper with a pencil, occasionally flipping through the book, and sometimes propping up her head, lost in thought.

Through the crack in the door, Ethan saw all of this. Suddenly, his empty heart seemed to be filled with warmth after years of being empty. He didn't know what that feeling was, but it was strange. However, he was very clear that he was satisfied with the current situation.

Avery was truly kind and innocent, so innocent that she couldn't even pretend. In other words, she was a little foolish. This kind of foolishness made him both relieved and worried. She trusted her sister so much that even if he told her to stay away, it would be impossible.

He could never have imagined that her own sister, would come to him and say those things behind her back. If he hadn't believed the nonsense of that woman, Avery wouldn't have been hurt. He was careless.

As for why there was a cheque for 500,000 dollars from Parker in her bag, Ethan didn't ask her about it. Avery probably didn't know about the cheque since her aunt disliked her so much that she wouldn't risk being scolded by asking her aunt for money. Therefore, the problem must lie with Alexis . It seemed that he had not attacked the Wells family enough yet.

Avery couldn't come up with any inspiration, so she picked up her phone and searched for keywords on social media to see if there was any information that could give her inspiration. Just as she opened Buzznet, she suddenly saw a message from a blogger named "Meeting a cutie" in her private chat record, saying, "Sister, I'm sick these days. It would be great if you could come and see me more often."

"Sick? Why is it like Julian?" Avery m didn't think too much about it and replied, "I'm very busy lately," and closed the webpage.

She still couldn't come up with any ideas that night.

...

The next day, Avery went to the dining room with panda eyes. Ethan was already waiting for her. Avery sat opposite him and took the chicken soup that the nanny had prepared for her. "Good morning,Mr. Blackwood." She spoke listlessly.

"Why do you look like a ghost?". Ethan took a sip of milk and frowned slightly when he saw Avery's appearance. "Don't go to school today. Stay at home and rest."

Upon hearing this, Avery immediately forced herself to sit up straight and be alert. "I still have to go to school. I've missed a lot of classes and can't take any more time off."

Seeing her struggling, Ethan didn't say anything more. At the dining table , the two of them ate breakfast quietly. At first, Avery was fully awake, but gradually, her eyelids drooped and she was about to fall asleep.

At this moment, the man sitting opposite her suddenly stood up and walked towards her. Avery's peripheral vision caught sight of the approaching figure, and she shuddered for a moment before sitting up straight again. She thought that Ethan was probably going to suggest that she take a leave of absence, but to her surprise, the man placed a gold-trimmed black card next to her.

"Take this. You can use it whenever you need money. There is no limit to the balance, so feel free to use it."

"Huh?" For a moment, Avery was wide awake, looking at the black card on the table, and then at the man with a cold expression. "Mr. Blackwood, why are you giving me this?"

If she guessed correctly, this card was a limited edition worldwide, the kind that could be used indefinitely without reaching its limit.

Looking at her stunned expression, there was a hint of coldness in Ethan's eyes, but a warm smile appeared on his lips. "You are my wife, and as Mrs. Gu Hansheng, it's not good for you to not have any money on you. I don't want to hear about you borrowing money from others again. I don't lack anything, especially not money. Whatever you need, I can afford it."

Hearing Gu Hansheng's words, Lu Shiqian felt a warm feeling in her heart. She picked up the black card from the table and rubbed it between her fingers repeatedly. She never thought that she would be able to get her hands on this card in her lifetime.

He said that she was his wife, and she couldn't be without money. Moreover, there was no limit to the balance, and she could use it as much as she wanted.

"Great." As she continued, her eyes became slightly moist.

"If it's good, then take it. I'll head to the company first. If you're going to school, I've arranged for a driver to take you there," said Ethan as he walked towards the door.

Unexpectedly, just as he turned around, he heard Avery say, "Mr. Blackwood, thank you for being so kind to me. But I can't accept this card from you."

"What did you say?" Ethan turned back, his eyes showing a hint of displeasure. "Why not?"
