Avery quickly adjusted her mindset. She thought that perhaps she was too sensitive. Her sister was helping her with her social relationships so that she could have a smoother time managing the family in the future. She was being petty for feeling weird about it.
She walked into the hospital room and greeted the people inside.
"You're here, Miss Wells."
"You finished class so quickly. Sit down and rest."
Avery sat down by the bed, and the last person she greeted was Julian on the bed. "Julian, did you miss me?"
Maybe her sister had taken care of Julian too well, as the little one nodded his head and his eyes sparkled. He seemed to have gotten along well with Alexis , probably because he knew that Alexis was her sister and didn't reject her as a new big sister.
Now that he saw Avery coming over, joy was even more evident on his face. His half-curved eyebrows seemed to say, "Of course I miss my sister."
Tonight, Lena didn't come to the hospital. Avery heard from Rose that she had come over at noon, but then left to meet overseas clients in the afternoon because of some urgent matter with the Blackwood family.
Hearing this news, Avery was happy. This meant that she wouldn't have to endure her strict discipline for a short while.
After Avery arrived at the hospital, Alexis said she was going back to prepare dinner and left the hospital early.
Avery had originally planned to stay with Julian in the hospital until 7 pm before going back. However, she received a call from
Ethan just after her sister had left.
"How dare you bring outsiders into my house while I'm away? Who gave you the right to do so?" Ethan's voice was cold and menacing. Avery didn't realize that he had returned home early and saw her sister in the kitchen. She explained, "Mr. Blackwood, my sister is only taking care of me for a few days. Don't worry, I'll make sure she leaves before you come back."
"Right now, immediately, come back home !" Ethan hung up before she could even react.
She stared at her phone for a few seconds, realizing that Ethan had probably already returned home and saw her sister, which made him angry. She had to hurry back, in case her sister said something wrong and angered him.
However, things were not as she had imagined.
In the villa's kitchen, Alexis was washing vegetables when she heard a cold voice from outside. She put down her work and walked out of the kitchen.
....
"Mr. Blackwood, please don't blame my sister. I came here to take care of her myself because she's still injured and I'm worried about her," Alexis explained.
Ethan turned around slowly and gave Alexis a cold glance. "Now that I'm back, I can take care of my wife, you can leave now."
His gaze lingered on Alexis for no more than a second, filled with disgust, and Alexis could see it clearly. However, she ignored it and approached him apologetically, "Mr. Blackwood, actually, I didn't just come here to take care of Avery."
Ethan didn't react much, and instead turned around to leave. Seeing this, Alexis hurriedly reached out and grabbed his arm, calling out anxiously, "Mr. Blackwood, please wait."
Ethan stood still and pushed the woman's soft and boneless hand away, taking two steps back. Under the mask, his face was so cold that it was almost inhuman. "If there's anything, wait for my wife to come back to talk about it. It's just the two of us here now, what do you want to say ?"
"No, Mr. Blackwood, there are some things I can only say to you," Alexis said.
She didn't show any signs of being wronged by Ethan's cold attitude. Her delicate face showed a serious look, and her voice was like flowing water, pleasant to the ear. "Mr. Blackwood, last time at my grandparents' house, we were both victims. Of course, I'm not here to explain anything for my parents. I just want to apologize to you. At that time, I shouldn't have said that Mr. your face was ugly."
Thinking of the moment when this man hugged her last time, her face couldn't help but turn red. If he wasn't her sister's husband, she would probably have gone to apologize to him the next day.
Seeing the man's dark face, Alexis continued, "Mr. Blackwood, what I really want to say is that your face is not ugly at all. You are very handsome, really. It's just that my sister is punching above her weight."
After hearing her words, Ethan's face turned even darker. "Are you done talking?"
"Mr. Blackwood..."
"That's enough, now get out of here."
The blunt words caused the smile on her face to fade instantly.
She knew that there was no point in staying more, but there was still something very important that she had to do and she couldn't give up.
"Mr. Blackwood, the trial is in two days. I want to ask if you could withdraw the lawsuit. My father... "
Wells Industries was really broke now, just an empty shell. Even the debt that her older brother, Lucas, had incurred outside was paid off with her own secret savings.
What was worse was that her grandmother was still sick from the incident at the old house and was living in a nursing home.
Her father had said that if the lawsuit went to trial and Ethan persisted, he wouldn't spend a penny to pay for her grandmother's medical bills.
Alexis thought that Avery, was not good at speaking and probably wouldn't dare to go to Ethan , so she decided to go to him herself.
If she could change his mind about the lawsuit, she would work hard to make sure that her family's company would undergo a complete transformation.
But she didn't expect that this beautiful yet ugly man wouldn't even give her a chance to speak. Ethan interrupted her words directly, "This matter is not up for discussion. Your dad brought this upon himself and must pay the price. I cannot let him drug me and then falsely accuse my wife."
"Is there really no room for negotiation, Mr. Blackwood?" Alexis widened her eyes and looked at the man in front of her with a pitiful and innocent gaze.
Her gentle and delicate appearance, coupled with her elegant beauty, made her look like someone that a man couldn't help but want to protect.
But even so, Ethan didn't look at her.
"No!"
After speaking, he turned around and walked away with big strides. Watching the man's departing figure, Avery tightened her hands.
