Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 17

Avery Wells was startled by the man's sudden cold words. She thought she had reminded him of a sad past and apologized repeatedly. "I'm sorry, Mr. Blackwood, I shouldn't have brought it up..."

"No need to apologize. She's already dead," Ethan Blackwood interrupted her with a deep voice. He stared straight ahead, his tall and perfect figure standing upright in a thick black suit. His powerful aura was not something an ordinary person could match.

Looking at his firm and resolute profile, Avery Wells felt a chill run down her spine. The air around them was chilly, even though it was supposed to be a hot summer day. In that moment, she felt like she was in an ice cellar. It was very cold.

Avery Wells was a little confused, but seeing Ethan Blackwood like this, she was afraid of saying something wrong and making him angry, so she didn't ask any further.

However... Her gaze fell back on the child in the study.

"Is he called Julian?" As she spoke, her body involuntarily moved towards the door, pushing it open and stepping lightly into the study.

Ethan Blackwood stood by the window, his tall figure motionless. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, and his deep black eyes gazed intently at Avery Wells' back.

Through that delicate little figure, he seemed to see another person. For a few seconds, the person in his memory overlapped with the present Avery Wells.

In the study. Hearing the footsteps of someone entering, Julian only glanced up briefly before quickly looking back down. With her head lowered, she repeatedly wrote characters on the calligraphy paper with her held brush.

There was even a fine sweat on her small face, clearly indicating that she was overly nervous.

"Julian," whispered Avery Wells, approaching her. She probably already knew what was going on with Julian. This child seemed to have a serious communication disorder, with a very sensitive reaction to external stimuli.

Her behavior was rigid and she was easily nervous. Combining these symptoms, if she guessed correctly, this child probably had autism.

Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder. It was probably due to the lack of companionship from family members for a long time that led to this situation.

For some reason, Avery Wells felt a bit heartbroken when she saw Julian like this.

Julian ignored her and kept her head down, her eyes too close to the table. Avery Wells was worried that this would be bad for her eyesight, so she approached and held the little one's shoulder.

"Julian..." But as soon as she spoke, the little one's small body visibly stiffened, and then trembled as she shrank away from Avery Wells' touch.

The small hand that was holding the brush also let go, and the brush fell to the ground. Before it hit the ground, the tip of the brush accidentally brushed against Avery Wells' arm, leaving a black mark on her pristine dress.

At this moment, both Avery Wells and Julian were stunned.

The man outside the window narrowed his dark phoenix eyes and furrowed his brow, but he did not speak, nor did he push open the door. He remained standing in place, his deep eyes fixed on Avery Wells, who furrowed her brows, her delicate lips pursed slightly. What will the woman do next ?
